Rule#1 - NEVER trust influencers .....EVER.....especially internet influencers. Do your OWN research. THINK for yourself. If someone is pushing something on you, be assured they have an investment in it.

Being of age and how to manage the sequence of returns in those early periods is what seems quite scary in the current market. The market is never a loser in the twenty year cycle, but the 2000s decade scenario scares me and could really disrupt my retirement. When you're no longer accumulating but withdrawing, it's hard to be anything but cautious.
Some investors look to their investments as a source of income while others use it as a means to grow or preserve their wealth.
@Richard Perkins Apparently that's true, I agree. It is mostly disastrous for newbies or anyone who doesn't adhere to a well thought-out strategy and over all, a professional broker.
@@stevematthews1105 This is absolutely where online professional brokers can come in handy... Those that offer intuitive platforms and plenty of educational resources, and also guide you through your early investing days.
A good broker is much more than a venue to execute trades. Look for a broker that can assist you with quality research and educational materials, to aid your development as an investor and also help you make winning decisions in the market.

Awesome content, I love how you don't pull punches. I will say that Geoff Wilson has decent clean content and I've learned quite a bit in terms of general knowledge about sports cards and options with all the different ways you can buy cards. I’m only a Pokémon person but I have a weird obsession with watching sports card videos especially videos of card shows. I’ve seen a lot of these guys doing videos and had no idea about the backstory on any of these dudes. Wild stuff lol.

Absolutely love it! Started my day waiting to leave our Hub in Columbus Ohio drinking my mt dew watching your new video. Now after a 12 hr workday and sitting in a hotel in Detroit I get a new video to watch! I have been to Ryan's shop 1 time. He does have a nice setup and currently has 10 employees. His biggest setback is lack of vintage cards and very little baseball. His excuse is the players aren't good right away to make money off of. We live in a state with 5 teams and one semi pro team. There are 2 other card shops that have been opened a combined 82 years in Columbus that sell mainly baseball and have a ton of vintage. He really needs to work on getting a healthy mix. Anyway, the guys over here at Norfolk and Southern railroad love your content and you guys crack us up with the digs on certain people. Keep on

Mike's in Aurora, CO. is one of my local LCS's.
The people saying it has a "flea market" atmosphere must be brand new to the hobby.
He's not some come & go ultra modern cards only kind of shop but rather an LCS that really targets set collectors.
All those boxes are singles for sets of dollar bins. He'll be around a looooong time.
I was about to comment the same thing. Actually out of all the LCS's i've been to he has the best set up in terms of singles movement/fair pricing and products.
Also a super nice guy whenever I talk to him...
I've been to Mikes plenty of times and he's as solid as you can get. Also the best card store in Colorado by far

Talk trash about Geoff Wilson all you want but his content/advice has made me a better/smarter investor AND negotiator in sports cards and it has made me money.
1) Unless you had a lot of experience as a buyer/seller in the hobby prior to following Geoff, that statement doesn’t mean much. Not hard to improve if you’re someone with no experience.
2) Geoff isn’t actually any better at predicting price trends than you or I. The Covid boom that blew the hobby sky high for 18 or so months was a black swan event that Geoff happened to be in the right place for at the right time-his meal ticket was the massive influx of speculators with zero/very little prior hobby involvement and at most an average knowledge of pro sports. I have yet to meet a serious collector who doesn’t roll their eyes whenever his name is mentioned.
3) That group of people that have little knowledge of the “asset class” are all looking for someone to just give them instructions on how to allocate investment capitol-no different than all the people in stocks or crypto who follow CZcams financial influencers. The number of people who just do whatever Geoff tells them to do has gotten large enough that for almost any card (excluding only the absolute highest end cards) he can set the market instantly with a simple video.
4) His ability to set the market on cards so easily has 2 key benefits for him. The most egregious is that he can spend months buying up a certain card, then pump it in a video and cash out to his followers, netting a guaranteed windfall. The current best example of him doing exactly that: 1984 Star Michael Jordan cards. The other benefit he sees is that there are so many people following his advice that some inevitably do make money, which they thank him for by loudly and vehemently endorsing him in places like CZcams comment sections.
TLDR: Geoff is nothing special, if the SEC treated cards the same way they do securities he would be in Federal Prison, it’s all made possible by relative novices in the hobby who use his advice hoping it can be a shortcut that lets them avoid spending the time to learn the market themselves. Once his following dips below some magic number and can no longer manipulate the market, he’ll crash and burn.

You can notice he talks faster and more business casual in his other videos. He dials it in. He's definitely a smart guy.
I already knew how to make money on cards and I find Geoff is a good resource for updates and other types of thinking and approaching the market.

I dont understand why anybody would hate on jeff he doesnt sell anybody anything that there not willing to buy he doesnt have all the right advice but his top 5 is something i watch every week i dont do the whole market movers app thing cuz i can search ebay myself but it was still a good idea .Jeff promotes the hobby and encourages kids to get in it forget his business decisions or card advice the dude is good for the hobby he promotes it , brings updates as far as whats going on within the hobby, etc. ONE THING I CAN SAY IS I DONT EVER SEE JEFF TALKING SHIT ABOUT ANYBODY and thats more than i can say for people that only do videos hating on other peoples business and accomplishments!!!
Geoff is literally the worst sports forecaster I’ve ever seen, but a decent amount of his content and negotiations have been very insightful.
Would really enjoy a video like this but of people and companies that are good for the hobby.

Rule#2 - When people are offering you crazy money for your collectible (especially during COVID), TAKE IT and RUN. Odds are you'll NEVER see those numbers again..... I've done it ....and haven't looked back. Some of the best moves I've EVER made.

When serious money starts flowing into any market you best believe that the scammers, grifters and "clout chasers" won't be far behind. Seems to me like a lot of these influencers simply got caught up in the hype and the irrational exuberance of the card market during the lockdowns. These folks were making tons of money out of the blue on top of whatever stimulus money they were raking in at the time. On top of that these younger influencers who live at home can afford to take huge risks since they don't have any real living expenses. One of my good friends drives a very expensive car but he lives at home with his parents. Kind of easy to afford that expensive car note and insurance when you aren't paying rent.

its actually funny how you roast these guys always have to remember not everything is as good as it seems. Everything Ive made money on I bought from a collector perspective with no intention to ever sell. When I did sell it was hard to part with
i sell cards alot but I always buy for the long term with intention to collect, i learned I can flip and still buy cards i can hold for a long time, even prospects i try to buy prospects i can hold for years if I choose and try n stay away from flash in the pan hype
As somebody that has interacted with some of they guys the go after I think the truth is somewhere in between how the CZcams influencers portray themselves and how these guys portray them. Some of these guys just aren’t as awful as they are made out to be

- I do not have a card shop
- This was a great video
- CardCollector 2 does have a legitimate business and is very transparent about his deals. I’ve been to his shop, his trade nights and met him multiple times at shows. His Achilles heel will be his affiliation and loyalty to Gary V and being handcuffed by Fanatics in order to continue having allocations in 2024 and beyond. Many LCS owners are in that same boat with regard to Fanatics.
- Geoff Wilson is a good guy who has some humility about him and can accept and act on constructive criticism. I think his content is interesting, but he will also lose face if he makes the decision to get in bed all the way with Gary V and Fanatics.
- Those mentioned who live with mommy and daddy - that’s all that needs said. Not a criticism of them personally, but it’s easy to play fast and loose when you’re getting a free ride in life.
- Meelypops. Seems to have gone into the witness protection program recently.
- All breakers will fail. It’s overhyped casino gambling, period.

All these guys pushed the cart before the horse and doubled down on a sure market decline that any idiot could have seen coming. They all lived lifestyles and thought their profit margins would go 5-10x until the 2nd coming of JC.
Most hadn't been in the hobby long so they assumed it would keep going up. Yes anyone that's been in the hobby for years knew a big decline was coming. The high price valuations made little sense.
I don't care what anyone says BGS has always graded harder than PSA. A BGS 9 is a PSA 10.

Awesome content. I saw the last episode with Sports Card Investor announcing his $400K investment into the slab protector/stand company. Frankly, I would much rather have a PSA acrylic stand without any rubber protector to keep my slabs from fitting nicely and stacking together. Nonetheless, I couldn't agree with you guys more. I live in SD and its tough to make a living out here so I know where you guys are coming from; the people need to feel good that easy does it, and the FOMO that some of these tech dudes like Mr. Wilson like to inflict is real. No shame, but that's why I like you guys. You hit hard, and the bigger and uglier they are, the harder and nastier they fall.
Jeff probably has more money than he knows what to do with from his day job… if I had unlimited funds I would be buying boxes of 86 fleer basketball 😂
All my modern stuff I bought in 2020 has now tanked. All my high end Tatis & Lebron cards have went to complete garbage prices compared to when I was buying in 2020. Not sure where to go in the hobby now, guess I'll dabble back into vintage again. Grrrrrrr!

I don’t think you have to be Pollyanna about the hobby. There are lots of illegal, unethical and opaque practices which should be corrected. But these guys are just bitter. You’re absolutely right that this content could only appeal to people who are angry and filled with resentment. You can be pragmatic and honest without seething and shouting.
