  • A hike in some of the most picturesque scenery of the North Pennines. It starts at Blanchland before heading up to Pennypie House when we eventually join the Carriers Way. Continuing along the Carriers Way for much of its length we eventually reach Riddlehamhope where an old village was once situated. Then follows a slow hike back to the starting point via Newbiggin and Baybridge.
Route Taken :- Blanchland - Pennypie House - Blanchland Moor - Actoncleugh Head - Embleyburn Head - Carriers Way - Blackburn Head - Carriers Way - Riddlehamhope - Newbiggin - Baybridge - Blanchland
    Summits :- None

It is totally weird to look at, unfortunately didn't see any kites when I was there but still part of a lovely hike (if it isn't too wet)...

Last time I was up there, maybe a couple of years ago, the remains of a (demolished) posh(ish) dwelling were piled high at Riddleham Hope. Somebody must have carted away the large pile of rubble. As you say, a truly lovely walk.

Thanks, yeah Riddlehamhope manor was demolished Sept 2018 I believe, nothing left there at all now. There is some nice drone footage of it on CZcams though, in its ruined state. It is still a lovely area 😊

Lovely video ...however ....it is a riddle to me why it would come up as restricted on my TV mode ....quite a riddle like the grassy road....looking forward to further adventures 😀

Sorry I have no idea as to the restriction, it is the first I have heard of any restrictions on my media. It is an unusual place, definitely worth a visit.

Hi, I noticed the land clearance when I walked through it, they have planted more saplings, I can only guess they are clearing conifer plantations and replanting broadleaf trees.

Riddlehamhope Hall was a Victorian shooting lodge (the buildings you passed were the former stables and kennels) a formerly impressive mansion well enough equipped to entertain and enthrall the cream of Nineteenth Century aristocracy!
