An argentinian here 🙌🏼 love the recommendation 💛. I always get really excited when people on booktube talk about argentinian literature haha.
I need to recommend you two of my favorite book of last year. One is Eartheater by Dolores Reyes is about a girl that when she eats earth can see people murders or were they are.
And the second one is The fish child by Lucia Puenzo, I want to tell you what the book is about but I dont think I can make it justice.
(i'm so sorry if there is something wrong with what i wrote my english is horrible when is about writing :c) love the vid 💛

Thanks for this wonderful video and also for a great article! I am an Argentinian living in the UK. I love some of the authors you covered, like Selva Almada, Mariana Enríquez, and Samanta Schweblin, Silvina Ocampo and Borges. I still haven't read some others you suggest. If you like short stories I can recommend Julio Cortazar. He wrote several novels too. Perhaps you have heard about him already. I am so happy to find an enthusiast of Argentinian literature! I shared the video with my British friends to encourage them to read Argentinian authors. Best wishes, Marina

I love Mariana Enriquez, I am specifically a fan of her novel "our share of night", it is the longest of her works, but it's so complete in its character development, gripping plot and horrifically raw scenes. and I particularly love her works so much because she truly defined what Latin American horror can be, and she very carefully deals with political problems of Latin America, specifically Argentina. I Know you don't prefer books of this length (680 pages) but it will definitely show you a different very interesting side of literature.

What excellent recommendations. The only one i've read is The Dangers of Smoking in Bed, which I loved. The Wind that Lays Waste is high on my priority list. I very much appreciate how you discuss books that I don't hear about elsewhere. Booktube has gotten too samey samey and it is refreshing to find book folk who discuss unusual and unique books.

Thank you so much for taking me on this beautiful journey, I'm a better reader thanks to you. I love your book recommendations and your thoughts on books just blow my mind! I'm from Ecuador but grew up in the USA and we're mostly exposed to classic writers such as Gabrel Garcia Marquez, and Allende ... but I was looking for other Latin American writers and when I saw this, my heart skipped a beat lol. I also saw you recommended a book by an Ecuadorian writer and that's freaking crazy!! I thought I was dreaming.
Again thank you for keeping me connected to my roots, and for giving me the opportunity to discover writers that write stories about things I can relate to. Gracias.

I read “The Wind that Lays Waste” a few months ago after watching your different video. Listening to your review in this video brought back all the vivid visual images that I had seen while reading it and made me realize how much I had enjoyed it, and how amazing your review is. You might also like “Silence” by Shusaku Endo. The feel of the novel is quite different but it also deeply explores what goes on in the mind of a clergyman as he comes across people from different culture.

You mentioned that Meat reads like the prologue to a novel that doesn't exist but there's a novella by Mariana Enriquez called "Este es el mar" that is about legendary rockstars and their mythical muses. The muses start as part of a swarm and can level up to a muse if they manage to elevate a star to legend/god status by driving their fans wild and willing to sacrifice themselves for their idol. It sounds a bit cheesy but it's Mariana Enriquez so things turn real dark real quick.

Tender is the flesh is just 💡💡. Being a vegetarian, when my friends asked me to try out chicken, all I could remember from that piece of chicken, was my anatomy dissection and human muscle fibres.... which kind of gross me out and I could never enjoy it or even try it later.....this book just, made my imagination into perfect dystopian.
