    In this economy isn't one set per year more affordable if you are a collector? It allows you to collect other games out there. As a player, it builds up the excitement of the next set and it allows more people to get on board and try the game. MTG is like IBM, It does not have to die just evolves on its own and accepts the fact that there will always be something fresh and innovative to compete with. In this day and age, these games need to worry about being available, affordable, and fun. “Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.” - Walt Disney. Great video, thanks!

      The last thing i want out of a card game is it to be good for colectors.
      i couldn't care less. Sure, go ahead. I'm just not interested. I expect the card game to be good to play.
      Shocking, i know.
      having a stale meta or insanely expensive and rare cards just kills the game.
      Magic does it because it slowly milked the playerbase for almost 3 decades.

      IMO Collectors need things to chase and keep them interested. I am not sure if 1 set per year gets that done from a collectable or gameplay standpoint but I am excited to follow along!
      @SkyllerSY it has always been my position that TCGs live their best lives when they please everyone from players to collectors. These communities are a vast spectrum of individuals and the more people who can find a passion for engaging with your game and group, the better. Because of this belief I find catering to players AND collectors in balance to be best

    hot take: unless these other card games bring a fun and casual yet potentially deep and competitive format like commander, MTG will continue to stay on top. Even after MTGs traditional 60 card formats die out (and its starting to), commander will keep the card game as a whole alive.

      I disliked how LSS treated pillar members of the community and felt like I was being pushed "out of the club" as it were. I also was realizing that for FaB to see the growth that I wanted before everything fell apart, LSS would need to pay more attention to the casual community and find ways that people could casually engage with the game. The gameplay, the box, and the event structure actively fight against the casual enthusiast imo and I couldn't keep "yelling into the void" so to speak.
      You couple that with my daughter being born and my time becoming more scarce I had to spend it where I had passion that I felt could be reciprocated with potential.
      That being said if you are a FaB fan I not only support you but want nothing but good things for the vast majority of the community. @@HometownTcg It is apparent that other card games are not evaluated on the same level as Magic. Recently, I engaged in a lengthy discussion at my card shop regarding this matter. Unlike other card games, if they were to make the same mistakes that Magic has made repeatedly, they would likely go out of print and become obsolete. The longevity of Magic's success, spanning 30 years, can be attributed to the devoted fan base who believe it to be unparalleled and unbeatable. As the saying goes, "if you say something loud enough and long enough, eventually it becomes true," and this holds true for Magic's unwavering prominence in the card game industry.

    • @HometownTcg
      @HometownTcg  Před rokem +1

      I think magic succeeds in todays day and age for far more reasons than just “it’s been here for 30 years” - this is why you see indie tcgs like FaB repeatedly reaching into the mtg playbook and taking thing for their game.

    • @themagicoffleshblood
      @themagicoffleshblood Před rokem +1

      @@HometownTcg I understand your perspective, and I agree with you. The point I was trying to emphasize is that new card games like Flesh and Blood are not given the same level of unwavering loyalty and forgiveness that Magic enjoys from its devoted fan base. If any new card game were to make the same mistakes that Magic has repetitively made in the last year, those games would likely cease to exist. The reason Magic endures is due to its dedicated followers who, regardless of the circumstances, continue to support and purchase its products. These ardent fans, in my opinion, can be seen as fanatics, but not necessarily in a positive way. While I still appreciate and enjoy playing Magic, I no longer support their practices by purchasing their products in the same manner as before

      @@themagicoffleshbloodI agree with your points. Being first to market, if I remember correctly, is one of if not the most important thing in selling a product! Mechanically, there have been quite a few card games made over the last 30 years that are far better than magic. But, it's extremely difficult to get people to buy in when they're already invested in what came first.

    Lorecana -
    Isn't competing with Magic the Gathering, or Pokemon, etc.
    Disneyania is its own marketshare and the fandom involved don't really participate in the Card World.
    Lorecana won't be a competitive card game.
    Lorecana won't be a collectible for the fact they're cards.
    Lorecana will be popular and collectible as added memorabilia for the individuals that enjoy the characters and IP attached to Disney.
    (This will also include Star Wars* (unless George Lucas buys it back) Marvel, and potentially a Kingdom Hearts. )
    I see it being sold well within Disney Land and World resorts, even getting autographs from Jasmine on your 1/1 Jasmine alt red outfit card.
    1/1 Slave Leia art since that toy and imagery was discontinued etc
    Flesh and Blood -
    PvE - see Raid decks from World of Warcraft tcg (Lich King one for sure)
    lots of fun and potential
    Maybe combine some elements of Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.
    Magic: the Gathering
    Could die, and card games will still exist.
    Pokemon isn't going anywhere. Ever.
    Pokemon is the modern day escapism of the idea a 10 year old could free travel a social economic utopia.
    I'll leave space as to why I fully believe this but I would have to educate others here on a perspective about Yu-Gi-Oh! and what it truly means to the Card Community.

    • @LifeWasGood
      @LifeWasGood Před rokem +5

      Yu-Gi-Oh! from its very origin was a celebration of persons enjoying and playing games. Boardgames, dice games, video games, and of course Card Games.
      Yu-Gi-Oh! has done it all and with mild success in its different avenues.
      Like... This "new" Sorcery game, is literally Dungeon Dice Monsters with Magic the Gathering cards as the summon pieces. (not a facetious statement either, like it literally is Dungeon Dice Monsters aside from the mechanics to summon. But building a path and gameboard to the opponent to hit is identical.
      A lot like Duelist of Roses the YuGiOh game too.
      Interesting note.
      Yu-Gi-Oh! has an anime. And before that a Manga. So its media was already successful before the Card game.
      It is The fact the anime is centered around playing the cards you're going to be able to own and play with, is what made Yu-Gi-Oh! stand out and rise up to join and become The Big 3.
      It is cosplay, make believe, education and fun all in one available package.
      Adult Yu-Gi-Oh! fans right now would pay HUGE money to play on a real Live VR Duel field. 100% Like at a Vegas event.
      The fact "the heart of the cards" meme has transcended to other games, let alone Culture as a whole, speaks to how much more vastly influencing Yu-Gi-Oh has been vs. Magic the Gathering on the minds of the masses.
      I see elements of Yu-Gi-Oh! in Flesh and Blood.
      I feel it is an official part of the Core 4.
      FaB won't be Vanguard or Force of Will, or Duel Masters/Kaijudo, etc.
      It already is blowing up in EU and Brazil and Japan.
      It and Yu-Gi-Oh eventually will become the top 2
      They're actually played and engaging metas. Of course the bans and tier 0 decks will always cause toxicity but what card game doesn't?

    Paper MTG will persist in any digital future short of a nuclear apocalypse. Imagine that Hasbro and WOTC go bankrupt tomorrow but won't sell the IP to anyone ever. MTG communities, panels, youtubers, etc. would find ways to create/distribute new cards and continue to give people a good excuse to gather in person. Lorcana will probably affect Pokemon more. It would be great if all new games gradually remove mtg from 1st place. Everyone can still play mtg for decades without needing any new product releases. With regards to the market, new games are much better than mtg, but in order to have a future in paper tcgs, mtg HAS to be gradually eliminated from the market of new products. Tcgs and other paper games in the digital era will vanish if mtg keeps dominating the market. So mtg doesnt really carry the tcgs into the digital era, it will actually be the doom of tcgs.

      @@HometownTcg It's not easy to respect other people's opinions. So I appreciate that. And I agree with what you said elsewhere that FAB isn't treating casual play well. I would add, they also made the higher rarities much too rare for people to collect unless they live without financials really being a concern. They definitely dropped the ball there, and I hope they will fix it at some point.
      Sorcery has been great at casual play though. So far. It's also huge on flavor which I love!
      I'm also very excited about the upcoming Drakerion TCG, because of its very snappy fun gameplay in which, like in FaB, you can sort of 'steer' your deck through turn by turn play.
      And Star Wars unlimited, though I'm a little wary of FFG support. And the game hasn't got flavor text (yet?) which I would miss a lot. It doesn't seem super complex, so I think I'd prefer it over Lorcana if I want to play a 'lighter' game.
