I've just traded my 900 gt pro for the 1200 gt pro. so far i have struggled with the extra weight at low speed mainly because of my height. i have had to invest in another pair of boots with the 2.5cm insole. i do have the low seat and it is way more comfortable than the 900 seat, but in the low position s still 20mm higher than the 900. i find there is more vibration on the 1200 compared to the 900, which does seem to get less the more i ride it. The windshield in top position seems to give me more wind noise than the 900 did. The quickshifter on the 1200 gt pro is a lot better than the 900 and i do prefer the TFT on the 900 to the 1200. I do like the shaft drive though and the hill hold. at the moment i am still running the bike in and after its first service i should notice a vast difference which i did with the 900 gt pro. the jury is out with me at the moment as i loved my 900 gt pro but i have lost a bit of confidence with the 1200 at the moment, but i will persevere and i am sure i will get to love it as much going forward.

This is my first time with am adventure bike so I did a couple of hours of riding to get the feel for one. While I still think they are on the ugly side I can see the appeal. Very comfortable riding position, nice tech and very easy to stand up on even at 60 mph to get a bit of a stretch. Also my first experience with a quick shifter, love it , may have to see if I can retro fit one to my R9T.

In the US, we are only getting the Explorer versions. After owning a GS Adventure, I discovered that I no longer have a 350 mile bladder so the extra fuel of the Explorer is lost on me. I chose the 900 GT Pro for the lighter weight, lower cost, and more nimble bike.

I mainly do long distance rides, recently to Italy and I am about to go to Morocco. I use the Honda for off road and the Tigers for long distances with the ability to do the odd bit of gravel. The 1200 Rally Explorer is so much more comfortable than the 900 which is noticeably more buzzy at motorway speeds and the 300 mile range is a dream. I have the lower seat which is the same height as the seat on the 900 and I haven't noticed a problem with the extra weight of 10ltrs of fuel.

Thank you for the excellent videos. As the majority of the roads I ride are tarmac but they are very rough, (Australian poorly maintained country roads with almost continuous hard edged bumps / transitions) would the Rally versions be more comfortable than the GT’s due to the bigger front wheel and a bit more suspension travel? Thank you.

I chose the GT Pro, but couldn’t get one in black for ages and got a good deal on the Rally Pro instead. I do find it slightly taller than I’d ideally like (I’m 5’11}, but am getting used to it. I chose the 1200 over the 900 because of overall comfort and power plus shaft drive. Really the 900 would be better for commuting but the 1200 is better with and for my pillion. Glad I didn’t go even bigger for an Explorer, but GT Pro would have probably been the best choice for lower height and road riding. Just hope I can get the hang of the Rally at low speed!

With the original seat in low setting I could just touch with my toes on both sides an to flat foot on one side I had to move my bum over quite a bit. With the low seat I can flat foot on one side with just a very slight lean so I feel a lot safer. I did not want my wife on the back at all till I got the lower seat. I just wish that Triumph would have offered the lower seat as an option when purchasing instead of forcing you to purchase another seat. Picked up my Rally Pro 3 days ago. GTs don't come in matt green, I'm tall enough, found the blind spot lights kinda annoying, and don't need or want the extra weight from the larger tank. Fantastic bike, I love it already. My 4th Tiger: I had a 1050 for 10 years that I adored, got my head turned by the old 1200 engine but then never really got on with it - too big and heavy with a high C of G - it didn't want to ride how I wanted to ride. Then I had the 900 Rally Pro for a couple of years - great bike, but 50% more power for only 10% more weight did it for me when they rebuilt the 1200. The new one is genuinely worlds apart from the old one.

Hello! One question please: do your Tigers 1200 also have:
    - heated grips that are not really heating
    - a kind of "slow shifter"? By that, I mean a quick shifter that is shifting rather slowly? (It's probably ok on the rally, but on the sporty GT... )
    - is it also limited to 204 km/h (126 mph)? The GT is so firm, so planted (that's one of its strengths), with that engine and gear box and this front wheel and this firm behavior, it could easily handle 250 km/h (155 mph)
I was going for a GT Pro because I think it's beautiful, it doesn't use that much fuel, it has a shaft drive and you can load a lot in the top case and the panniers. But these three things (bad heated grips and slow shifter and speed limit to 200) are a no go for me. I live close to the German Autobahn.
Was it just the one I test drove, or are all of them like that? It would be a pity because on the paper, and as far as concerns the behavior of the GT Pro on the road, it would be an excellent bike!
And I also noticed a strong wind buffeting at over 90 km/h (55mph), but this I could probably fix with an after market shield.... but .... who guaranties me that I'll find an after market shield solving the problem?
I'd have loved to buy one, but I did not yet, because of these criterias which are not unimportant to me.
Would like if it's only the one I tried, or if you noticed the same aspects (and again, it's an excellent bike, I'm not trying to put it down, I would like Triumph to make it better, so that I can buy one!) Thanks a lot!

I've heard reviews that the 1200 Rally Explorer is better off-road than the 900 Tiger is. If that's true then the versatility is amazing, how hard are you going to hit the turns anyway on a $25,000 machine.

You heard that? Weird. 900 Rally Pro is a beast and the Morraco rally race said it was full of 900 Rally Pros and they killed it in terms of performance.

I'd ignore all of these in the hope Triumph stick the Speed Triple engine in a 1200 equivalent of the Tiger Sport 660. Of course I'm probably waiting in vain as they seem determined to ignore the sports tourer market in the mistaken belief everyone wants an adventure tourer. This is why for the first time in 15 years I don't have any Triumphs in my garage.

@@alanthomas0502 I think I can help here as I was choosing between the Multi V4s and the Tiger. Both bikes are incredible. The Tiger has better brakes even though they are the same ,shaft drive, range, comfort and I would say suspension. The Duc's engine is amazing as is the fueling, it has a better TFT. I would be very happy with the Duc but chose the Triumph. I did watch the fuel gauge on the Duc move while riding it. It seems to like fuel like I enjoy beer.

Rode them all this week…all felt a bit vibey, cumbersome bland..and none were as nice as the BMW GS in terms of riding fun, comfort etc. Having said that I then took out the 900 Tiger and this seemed a much better bike…plenty of power, cheaper by far, agile and fun…still vibey though compared to the silky smooth BMW 1250 GS.

You didn't notice the better brakes, suspension and better comfort? Yes, it has vibes compared to the GS and if it didn't it would be a slam dunk on the GS. However, no GS owner will ever say there is a better bike lol. I have the GT Explorer and it would be nice to have a smoother engine that does not transmit vibes to the bars, but I guess you can't have it all.

None!! Buy KTM if you want dirt, buy BMW if you want adventure touring, simple! Triumph doesn't offer enough to win either side, no identity and it's too expensive. Here in AU I can buy the GSA for the same money as the Explorer, now WHY would't I do that?? Of course Triumph makes good bikes, but is it enough with such competition?
