- I got really tired of 30 minute tutorials on how to use Foundry VTT as a player. So I created my own! Here's the Foundry VTT basics so your players can hop right in and play D&D in a flash. PLUS, I have everything organized by timestamps! Go straight to the section you need to below.
In this video we go over, how to move your token, look at your character sheet, inventory and spells (and adding things from your compendium into your sheet), the basic interface buttons and why some of them are important, how to measure spells and movement, plus the quick buttons on your token.

This is a really concise and to the point video that didn't put me to sleep like the other Foundry tutorials out there. thank you for making it!
I'm so glad! That's exactly what I was aiming for. It still ended up a little long, but there's just so much in foundry you can do it's kind of inevitable. But the cool thing about video is that if I go to fast you can rewatch specific parts.
Thanks for a concise video. My group is headed to Foundry, and I needed a "spend ten minutes on this video to get an idea of how to use Foundry as a player." Yours is definitely the video I'll be sharing thanks to being exactly the content, and conciseness, I need for them. Liked and subscribed!
I've been using FoundryVTT since it came out and I learned a few things by watching this video. Thanks for putting this out. I will be sharing this with all of my new players in the future. Great job!
So glad it was helpful! I hope I can continue to release helpful stuff like this!
Simple and efficient tutorial! Got new players that will love it!
Glad to hear it! I hope this makes it easier for them!
By far, Foundry is the best vtt out there. Thanks for posting.

I love Foundry because it is so versatile! Definitely up there for me too!
WOW! Thank you, this video was more easy to follow, as a day 0 user!
I'm so glad!! Good luck!
@@CantripsMedia thank you! I also watched your Dungeoncraft videos, those are the two softwares i decided to go with. Im definitely tuning for all the content, keep up the good work!👏🏼🙏🏼
Awe yay!!! They are my go tos for sure! Not sure that I'm an expert but hopefully I can help you with them!
I too am tired of 30 min tutorials.. I JUST started watching and you have my undying gratitude! (..and subbed. Thanks for not wasting out time!)
Legit me. I TRY so hard to cut everything down. I do ramble at times though if I'm not careful lol
I appreciate this. Joining a foundry game and my dm sent me this. So glad to get the basics covered quickly.
I'm glad it helped!!
This is a great video! Did you have any trouble working around the port forwarding requirement to get the program running? I had some issues when I made the switch.
I'll be 100% honest, I had my husband set up the server to run for us. He's a programmer and has IT certifications so it's super easy for him. That said, I get a lot of these questions, so I'm going to hopefully have a video on it soon going over the whole process with him guiding me through it. Sorry I can't help with this question right now, though!
@@CantripsMedia No worries I was just curious. I got everything sorted out on my end and uploaded a cautionary tale video to help people potentially avoid the pitfalls I had to go through. Just wondering if it was a common thing or not.
Mind blown, new to foundry and you just explained all the things I couldn’t figure out… WHICH INTERNET APP IS BEST FOR FOUNDRY??
I use Chrome, but I've actually heard that surprisingly Internet Explorer is better for Foundry VTT, though I haven't had many issues that would make me switch
Actually, the pasive value of every skill are on the right side of that skill bonus (they are grey)
Imo its better to use those mostly becouse players may to forget that with increase proficiency value or ability value change pasive ability
also i highly recomend monks active efects or something like this, its shows in bottom of the screen pasive perception and pasive insight,
pasive values are mostly for gm anyway becouse if you ask player what is your pasive perception they will know.... :D
also that +35ft is mostly for hight, if you cast fly or levitate on something its helps pleyers to see that :)
ofc if someone use that in this way its fine w/e is fiting you the most ;)
anyway good tutorial, i may use it to some new pleyers :)
with passive perception, the example player miss one in this value
Yeah the height thing I just realized recently while playing in another game, but we mostly used it for haste as it was easier to keep track of. I’ve been recommended Monk’s active effects a couple of times now. I’m going to have to check it out and possibly post a follow up video
