    I think the reason they didn't make the switch from Henry to Liam in the scene you mentioned was that it was only after filming wrapped for season 3 that Henry let everyone know he was gonna leave the show. I really hope they're not gonna do the whole alternate universe thing and just have Liam come in and not explain anything in that regard - just like they did with the actor switch of Rience

      Like I said, regardless I feel like the season ended in the wrong spot which premeditated or not would or could have ended with Geralt's wellbeing in the air. But it is what it is. What the producer said can be interpreted a few different ways but they said "there are a few really good writers returning to the writers' room for Season 4, I think they coblled together a really nice opening which is really true to the book...This is a very little thing that I will tease...People who know the books really deeply also know that this is not a typical fantasy book. It's not just one world."

      There won't be alter univers stuff.
      The writers will begin the new 4th season by introducing two characters telling the stories of Geralt (like in the fifth book).
      And probably we change story perspective from one girl to another. - so it will be face change of main character. 👌🏻
      My guesses based on interviews with Tomasz Bagiński.

    Movies and short series are often shot backwards, so if the ending episodes were shot first they probably didn't know Henry Cavil was leaving yet. On one side it's going to be really strange not having him as Geralt anymore, on the other Liam Hemsworth actually looks more like what the book Geralt looked like. I recently saw a video where an AI created life like representations of the characters based on the book description and the AI version of Geralt looked like Liam Hemsworth.

    • @NoelleMar
      @NoelleMar Před 8 měsíci

      I don’t like most of those AI descriptions, but can I also say that sometimes when I saw photos of this season, I actually mistook Henry for Liam. 😭 Which surprised me. So it makes sense if visually some might prefer Liam a little or not notice as much as they thought. It would be a totally different take on it, but still.

    "How dare you? I would milk his death for at least three songs, and maybe an epic poem." Jaskier has indeed been a highlight throughout this season,
    I liked the bond between Dijkstra and Phillippa, and the small detail of her reaching over to help him kneel to their new king.
    I like that Fringilla is still paying the price for her lie about killing the elven baby.
    I agree that the Battle of Aretuza should have been the season end, with a lot more detail.
    I think they made this episode as much a "lead-in" as a "finale" in hopes of getting some kind of audience for Season 4. For me, whenever Season 4 happens, I'll decide then. If it's multiverse Geralt or different-timeline Geralt, I'm out.

    • @NoelleMar
      @NoelleMar Před 8 měsíci

      I think the problem with having the battle of aretuza at the end is how much it directly affects the stuff that follows it. It’s one of those things that really needs to come before other significant events. I don’t think it would be such an issue if people weren’t expecting a traditionally structured season. It makes sense to expect that, it just wasn’t the case this time around. And dividing it into the lopsided two parts was ridiculous. (Not made by the creative team I’m sure lol.)
      I do like the other things you mentioned like Djikstra and Phillipa, shady but loyal till the end. XD
      As far as i know, the multiverse stuff, which people think is official, was just made up by bigots lol. As so much stuff about “behind the scenes” on this show is. And, stunningly, very few people question it. It also shows how many people who complain about it he show hating the source material don’t know the source material and simply want to lump it in with idk their Marvel hate or whatever.

  • @NoiseFetish
    @NoiseFetish Před 10 měsíci +1

    I kinda felt personally this was the best season?
    They got back on track (for the most part) with the book stuff, episode 1 felt like "you're right, this should have been in season 2" episode (kind of like Nivellen in seaon 2 ep 1 was the "this hsould have been in season 1" and was the HIGHLIGHT of that season), performances were good, fights were great, the relationships between characters grew and got stronger, Jaskier finally got to do stuff in the show again (vs showing up 3 times in last season?), Yennefer got to grow a lot as a character, Ciri started her most interesting arc.
    So how much of that was Henry pushing back on writers decisions to get them back on track and how much it was the writing team finally listening to some feedback? I've no idea. And obviously there's still room for improvement in terms of writing and pacing, the episodes felt a little uneven in terms of pacing (and that split into two parts was probably so that htey can milk the show for 2 months of subscriptions worth instead of one... I initially skipped it cause I knew I'm getting cheap Netflix soon as they started to offer it as part of my ISP package and I was about to renew contract so I ended up watching it just now).
    Right now my worry is that enough people will dump the show cause "Henry's not in it so what's the point" that it'll just fizzle out and season 4 will either left the story unfinished or they'll go with "omg we have to cram EVERYTHING in here just so to finish the story" and we'll end up with an unwatchable mess (hello 4th season of Preacher which I still have yet to sit through in its entirety where after stellar season 3 that no one really watched cause people gave up on the show on seasons 1 and 2 we got a "well, we have half of the remaining comic to cram into this" so what should have been full episode or multi episode sections got crammed into 15 minutes).
    There's a particular scene in I think 4th or 5th book (been a while since I read it) that involves Ciri and they were making hints towards that scene already that I wanted to see in live action or animated form since I read the books so I really hope the show retains enough viewership for that to happen. There's also some events that are on a really grand scale in the last book (trying not to get super spoilery here) and I'd love to see them.
    The show keeps hovering around 8 for me with certain episodes dipping into 7/10 territorry but on occasion we get a 10/10 like the Nivellen episode or a solid 9/10 so here's hoping Liam works well as a replacement (I've literally seen ZERO of his movies/shows so I've no idea) and that they don't eff it up with the explanation on what's going on.
    Part of me just wants to see it through the end cause growing up I DREAMT of having fantasy shows... and all we had back then was reruns of Robin of Sherwood and the godawful Hercules tv show (although I heard Xena was good cheesy fun that I missed out on so maybe something good came out of it) and then there was that biggest piece of garbage known to man... the 90's live action Conan tv show...
    so now having Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Rings of Power, The Witcher, Wheel of Time, Willow, as imperfect as they are, it's still a goddamn dream. Even if the shows don't always get the source material or even if they fall apart in final season (although let's be honest, writing wise GoT fell apart in season 5 already and only episodes like Hardhome keep that season from being the worst), I get to see dragons and witchers and mages and orcs and monsters and elves and armies on screen way more often... I'll take a 7/10 fantasy show (Wheel of Time season 1) over a 7/10 cop drama or something anytime.

    • @NoelleMar
      @NoelleMar Před 8 měsíci

      Look, as someone who didn’t read the books before going in, I don’t think that they course corrected so much as continued their adaptation, their version of the books. Whether it involved expanding on certain things, adding another fairy tale to explain something big that happened in a paragraph in the book, or melding certain characters together.
      (For example, their use of Vilgefortz. Turning him into the hero of sodden via propaganda, which happens a lot in the books. Or him being a badass villain from season one, which makes sense considering his sus behavior. But then “book fans” spoiled the fact that he was a super powerful big bad necause the Netflix writers couldn’t read. The fact that he dissembled, which… you know he could do, didn’t occur to them.)
      Anyway, it sounds as though most of the cast and crew, and certainly the writers, were incredibly familiar with the books. And that comes through in the show. You can see countless tweets and comments and interviews proving this. And then even the way they draw from disparate elements of the books. This idea that only Cavill cared I assume is marketing and propaganda heh.

    Yeah I also enjoyed when Ciri was badass but also remorseful. Love her lol. Everyone lost it a bit (or a lot) at one point this season except I guess Vilgefortz and Emhyr, who lost other things (uh… face and allies?).
    This show has really played the long game, introducing things that make sense only a season later, but it can be frustrating then when that season ends without answers or in the moment lol.
    Honestly, I wasn’t entirely sure if Emhyr was tricked? His reaction was extremely muted after his embrace of her portrait. His expressions then were subtle (and creepy) but still seemingly more effusive and sincere than anything else we’ve seen of him. Then again, he and Vilgefortz are both sneaky SOBs, and like you say very arrogant. So whatever he thought, he might not have wanted to reveal his hand.
    I can’t remember exactly when it struck me that I was definitely going to watch season four lol. I wanted to continue these stories, characters, and worldbuilding. In spite of the sometimes cheesy aspects, it brings up so many complicated themes.

But that could have signified wonder at finally being reunited with his daughter. Emhyr also smiled at the end and raised her hand. Like you said, wasn’t much he could do! There were lots of underlying messages about the cost of using magic or chaos. They could have had Geralt with a broken back. So broken that no amount of magic is going to heal him from his inability to walk. At some point, Geralt and Yennifer could have realized they needed to work with Yen and the Dryads to move Geralt’s spirit and consciousness to another body. It could have been a moral dilemma. Like one of the guards could have been Liam and they have to realize they’d have killed him anyway, but the only way for Geralt to be combat effective is to inhabit a new body. At least then, it would explain why Heralt looks and sounds different, but it’s still Geralt. It also would have gone along with the theme of he cost of chaos. Geralt switched to a new body with the body we know, lying soulless on the bed.

    I feel like Liam looks too close to Ciri’s age & it’s going to feel & look super weird to try to view them in the same father/daughter dynamic as her & Henry. I mean, Henry visually looks older & way more mature than Liam so I feel they will have to do too much to age him & if they don’t it’ll be creepy. I also can’t see him & Yennifer together in the same way. Also, if they use him as a Geralt from a different universe does that mean he won’t have the romantic relationship with Yennifer or the father/daughter relationship with Ciri? How will he have the same motivation to protect Ciri? I just don’t see how any of it will work. At this point, I wouldn’t at all be surprised by anything dumb they try to do especially if they stray so far from the source material. To me, the best part of the show was the family the 3 of them had made together. I can’t see it moving forward in a good direction without that dynamic.

    • @NoelleMar
      @NoelleMar Před 8 měsíci

      There’s no reason to expect them to do all these “stupid” things when most of what they’ve changed so far has been like conflating characters, playing with meta narratives in the book, and moving around certain events. (Some of it isn’t even moved around, it’s just not as developed in the book, or characters find out about it later.) Some stuff was a little different, but it still incorporates many elements of the books. Like the baba yaga which was completely in line with the books’ use of fairy tales.
      Aldo would it be creepy to have someone younger play Liam when Yennefer’s actress is a few years older than Ciri? Some hate that as well. But to me i guess… they’re literally immortal, so I don’t mind.

      Yeah they said they wanted to give him the best sendoff they could. Unfortunately, they couldn’t legally force him to stay with them against his will because that would be kidnapping, and they had already filmed season three. They could do very little to change the end product, but they tried a bit. In the books, he doesn’t have that big fight scene at the end I don’t think. That might have been added for the finale, but I can see why they might note that, as well as a few other things.
      So if you’re judging it based on Henry Cavill ditching the cast and crew (and maybe his reasons were legitimate, it’s his choice, and a huge endeavor-but it was HIM who left everyone high and dry), rather than it being about halfway through a much bigger story, then it’s not fair to everyone involved, but it’s understandable. I’ve really enjoyed season three but man I wish Henry wasn’t leaving, I’m very tempted to boycott season 4 but I’m invested in the other characters Jaskier, ciri and yennifer!!! We’ll see it’s gonna be weird without Henry ❤

    I didn't like the last 3 episodes so much. Netflix should have dropped the entire series at once. The last 3 episodes were rushed and a lot of time was wasted in episode 7. The fight scene with Geralt at the end just underscores why Cavill is the Witcher. I don't know if I will be watching the final seasons. I am reading the books and enjoying them. They are complicating the actor switch. I have seen other series where the actor was replaced without all this hoopla. The showrunner, IMO, is a liar and an idiot. Then again, I don't waste a lot of brain power on what the production/cast issues are, so whatever.

      It’s a lot of hoopla because “fans” (or rather people with agendas) made up a lot of unsubstantiated claims about his leaving in order to promote bigotry. Many people completely believed it, as websites pushed these headlines and stories that genuinely were totally dubious and nonsensical. I loved the stuff in episode seven with Ciri, had a lot of powerful ruminations.

    When people say the show runners have no respect for the Witcher world or the stories held within it, I used to often "knowingly disagree" thinking it must surely be an exaggeration. Seeing this finale and the way they very absolutely clearly diminished Henry's character (i.e., the _main character_ ) to less than ~10%, it's very clear every one of those criticisms are right. Lauren Hissrich should be fired. Netflix doesn't deserve this IP.

    ......this Netflix TV-series can entertain to a certain degree...but you should not analyze anything. You will find so much that doesn't belong to the books ( and I am in my 3rd read of the books). Just "enjoy" it superficially. I was like you thinking that after the battle with Vilgefortz and being messed up..would be the way they would bring Liam in, but now I can't see any good way for them to make Liam glide in without to much feel of change. So sad that they just hadn't follow the books...and presented us the "real" book characters. Despite Geralt's battle sceens ...I felt like he wasn't really a "living" character in these 3 last episode. Like they made him passive knowing he is out. ...I don't know....I feel kinda empty after seeing Season 3 and was not drawn into the story at all....and it feels like anyone else but Geralt have more screen-time than the person the books are build on. .....I think I will watch episode 1 of Season for out of curiosity...and depending I feel after that. Thank for some good reactions! 🙂👍

      It is preposterous to say that this is different from the books therefore it is two dimensional. There is so much to analyze. This is confined by what is actually in the books as well as what writers and actors have said. Clearly lots of thought was put into it. “Real characters from the books” well they aren’t real characters. Fair tales are adaptations. Many short stories about the Witcher are fairy tale adaptations. The game is an adaptation. That’s also the way plays work. They’re variations on and interpretations of these characters.

      @@NoelleMar ...🙂I think you misunderstand me! As an educated Librarian I am well aware that they are fictional/invented book characters. I just don't think Netflix has being able to portrait these book characters in a way that fits with the Authors idea about the them. I have read the books 2 times and are on my 3rd read now, and even I will not say that I understands them in the way Andrzej Sapkowski wrote them, but as much as I can compare them with the book materials ( the written words) I don't find that much that fits. BUT THAT IS JUST MY OPINION!!! 🙂Everyone are free to have their own opinion and view on things...I was just expressing my private experience from seeing the TV-series and reading the books! Peace!...ohh and by the way: I have watched CZcams interviews with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and people from the writing group etc. and there are definitely not always consistent with what they have said and what they do in the TV series.
