The scene with Ciri foretelling the death of the royal messenger Aplegatt is from the books but it's adapted in a really bad way because it's Netflix of course. She should be in a trance when she's saying the prophecy and look more absent with glassy eyes. And when the trance is over she should look confused and not know what just happened because she doesn't remember these trances. You could just go on Wikipedia and read the summary. Basically nothing happens. They run from here to there a bit of yada yada yada and basically no plot progression. The big reveal is Vilgefortz is the big baddie. But we all know that from season 1 when he killed his own soldier. He wants Ciri for his own power. Basically all the kingdoms including Vilgefortz want Ciri so they can control the monoliths which are portals to the conjunction of spheres allowing them to travel to other worlds and dimension. Vilgefortz wants to banish the elves sending them to another world. There's alot of nonsense in the books and weird character motivations but in a nutshell everyone wants more power and controlling the monoliths thru Ciri seems to be the key.

And damn they miscast Margarita, Kiera and Mistle.. good lord. No where in the books are any of the sorceresses fat. -And the Rats.. none of them would be fat either. They'd be skinny as they are basically homeless vagabonds. Being fat isn't possible for them!

I really hate how in the books the sourceresser are supposed to look really conventionally pretty, but Netflix does everything to make them unconventional or downright ugly. The point is that they all make their own appearance overly gorgeous (often because they're making up for something) and many of them are meant to be really vain. There are chracters who could look more unconventional, like Milwa or Angueleme, but they had to mess with the literal league of supermodels.

Same with her weird blue blouse she wears in this season, those particular outfits looked way too modern and just out of place, especially when shown next to Geralt's padded tunic thingy, which looked great. @@theruintheruin337yes, they are great actors, but it doesn't mean they are perfect for the role. Yen's actress looks too young, and she is also supposed to look pale. Triss' actress looks too old. In the books,Triss is supposed to look like she could be Ciri's sister. In the show, Triss looks older than Yen

Im having a hard time figuring out wtf this Yennifer's deal was. Shes so wishy washy. Also i hate the fact that she never has any repurcussions on her actions within the circle. In other media her action should have warranted a bounty on her head and forever banned in the circle.

    • @jonfreeman9682
      @jonfreeman9682 Před 11 měsíci +6

She's basically a good mage with a personal agenda and then her character arc is she realizes she must serve the greater good and tries to train Ciri to be the 🐐 and the 3 of them save the kingdom. That's kinda the deal in a nutshell. But it needs more Witcher bad assery. The books make a big deal about Ciri and Yennifer but let's get real here. Watching the two of them fight is about as exciting as watching paint dry. We fans want more Geralt monster slaying and minimize all the political dribble. And don't make such a big deal about Ciri and Yennifer. They're nothing more than a plot device for Witcher action.

Johnfreeman9682 is spot on. I also noticed the show makes a big deal about Yennefer's background (her living at a pig farm then screwing Istredd in that cave with ghosts - pointless drivel). Her background in the books is simply this: Geralt looks her in the eyes and figures out she's a hunchback using magic to appear pretty.

    • @rexcyjones9416
      @rexcyjones9416 Před 11 měsíci +1

@jonfreeman9682 that's the problem I'm having. There's too much drivel with the sorceress and Yennifer side story insertion. Even her losing powers was a WTF situation. Like , how? Why? And season2 is just about her looking for a way to retrieve that powers...like, are we even watching Witcher or Yennifer show? Anyway I dropped it after s2 so it's not big of a deal, I'm just trying to figure out her character since she was always in the fore front

    The Witcher Season 3 Review☠️
This wasn't good. As the show has tried to extend its scope and scale it's clear the people making it have a reach that far exceeds their grasp. Everything from pacing, structure, character work, and even the action set pieces feel like rushed first ideas hastily executed and cobbled together to meet a deadline rather than well-honed sequences, scripts, and scenes that have been toiled over and shaped with care and a firm vision for what the show is trying to convey. Plotholes, contrivances, wonky magic systems, empty mysteries, and modern self-aware dialogue are rife, and it feels like a show made out of obligation rather than passion and creative drive. It's such a shame, because while not perfect, the books are excellent, so some of the burden creatively shouldn't be as visible as it is in this show, but this need to do their own thing and sometimes vandalise beloved characters and story beats has only placed more pressure on writers and producers to deliver something they simply aren't capable of. The biggest issue for this season apart from the lack of coherent story telling. Is that they are trying to be something they are not. They are not Game of Thrones, they are not Lord of the rings Rings of Power. S1 opened the world of the Witcher. And by s3, I don't even know what I am watching. There is no focus, just long periods of side stories... boring, CGI is there just to be there. Writing has become lazy. You can see that they don't care about the source material. And you can see they try to add modern values to it... Which makes it even worse.
There is a clear lack of understanding from the show runners to the writers room of what makes for competent storytelling. They had good source material, an amazing cast, and world class crew, yet somehow managed to fall into cliche traps (telling instead of showing, character narrating to rush the storytelling process, poor character development). It's like film school freshman read the book report of a failing middle schooler of the Witcher books, then attempted to make something and put their stamp on it rather than respecting the intelligence of their audience.
season 3 character arcs & characterization of the Witcher is really bad. its a sad waste of time. they turn GERELT into a side character in his own show. his action scene are good but the show barely focuses on him , which really a shame because Gerelt is a captivating character as always. i thought the writers might have concentrated on his character more but as usual the Witcher writers are clueless. they turn Radovid into an annoying LEX LUTHER type of character from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. the writers turn Emhyr var Emreis, Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd The White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies into an incredibly bland boring character. his dialog is the worst. its completely takes you out of the show. Radovid & Emhyr are two of greatest characters & antagonists in The Witcher franchise , [ books , games & anything else ] , so it's really stinks that these characters suck so bad in the show.
if you know anything about BLOOD ORIGIN , then you know that Eredin Bréacc Glas the King of the Wild Hunt is kind of a weakling & really non-threatening so that a waste of an antagonist / villain so i don't have any hope of The Witcher tv show being a really cringe but entertaining tv show , but The Witcher tv show its just awful , i don't know how the writers of the show made Thanedd Coup so dull. uninteresting. boring. tedious. tiresome. they tried to make this entire season into GAME OF THRONE lite , it barely resembles Thanedd Coup. As for YENNEFER , she failed to apologize in any meaningful & significance way to GERALT or Cirilla for releasing discount baba Yaga , taking CIRI to cintra to be possessed , YENNEFER doesn't show any guilt for the Witchers who died in KAER MORHEN or anything. YENNEFER does try to shallowly & half-heartedly apologize to GERALT for maybe a couple minutes in one episode if you add the total up but it lacks substance & any type of conviction at all. As for YENNEFER apologizing to CIRI for taking advantage of her trust & getting her possessed , they have a one minute conversation about it. I'm honestly not sure because it went by so fast that I can't even say that's what the conversation was about. Then the writers just hand wave the situation & nobody brings it up again period. As for YENNEFER actions in relation to the plot season 3 , it was established in almost the whole franchise that YENNEFER doesn't care for politics [ in the games YENNEFER only cares in relation to saving other people, in the books YENNEFER is not that good at politics & you get the gist that among the mages of the north Philippa Eilhart & Vilgefortz are excellent at politics by comparison to YENNEFER & she only cares in relation to her magic school or saving someone , even in season one of the show's YENNEFER leaves politics behind her early. So because season 3 focuses on a GAME OF THRONE LITE version of Thanedd Coup YENNEFER character really suffered from the bad writing especially after her character assassination characterization of season 2. YENNEFER costumes are terrible in season 3. its laughable. Philippa Eilhart & Dijkstra were underutilized & don't live up to their characters at all. Vilgefortz is decent but he's going to be the most unsurprising surprise villain ever because the writers have been dropping really unsubtle hints since season one. Vilgefortz killing the mage in season 1 & interrogating Tisseia about CIRI in season 2 gave the surprise away.
as for CIRILLA , she's good but she's only half as endearing , charming , engaging & cool as her counterparts in the books & games. I like her a lot & her relationship with GERALT is nice , even if I consider it diminished by all wasted potential opportunities of season 1 & 2. The writers do this really annoying thing with her character where they write themselves into a corner so CIRI will constantly get caught by any & everyone after her , even after GERALT & YENNEFER tell her constantly & repeatedly to be careful & stay safe. It gets irritating after a while. CIRI trains with magic & different ways of fighting for a bit but its so so to me because she gets interrupted repeatedly so I don't think of her as a great fighter. A good one but not outstanding. A problem with her character is that the writers are trying to portray her as a great physical fighter instead of a person who uses agility , flexibility, magic sword menship to kick ass & Freya Allen looks thin & tall , in other words not a strong physical fighter. The other critique I have about CIRI is that in season 3 she's just there , she doesn't really do anything plot wise , CIRI is like the Infinity Stones in Avengers Infinity War an important element of the plot but she's inertia in her actions in the show. Hopefully she does something by the end of season 3.
Let's say these 5 episodes have more books stuff than the previous season, but still not enough to call it an adaptation, they just quote the books while they play their horrendous fun fiction, it's boring, bad though, full of inconsistencies, plot holes, and bad dialogues. I'm not interested in watching more of the Swicher. I wouldn't mind if they actually made improvements on the source material but all the so called improvements were even worse than fanfiction. So I'm not interested in Lauren's terrible writing & directing. Besides people have read the article from the CGI &VFX artists , everyone knows she is not adapting the books for Season 3. Lauren is writing something never before seen in the books & the games. So anything Lauren says about following the books is just more lies. People watching Season 3 of the Swicher will just encourage these Netflix Morons to produce more of this trash. I'm not watching the CIRI & YENNEFER show.
So if you haven't seen it yet , save yourself from the suffering , if you have seen it. tell me what you think

I thought you said something about James Bond (I was making my coffee at the time) and wondered to myself “How long before they make a steaming pile of shit out of that franchise by making 007 a woman”? All of the people raging about the idea of Idris Elba playing the role might then become slightly self-awa… nah, who am I kidding? It’s inevitable, though. A female James Bond. And it isn’t like Doctor Who, where a person can make a somewhat compelling argument that the Doctor is a genderless alien (even if the vast majority of boners could never be swayed and I personally don’t care, so meh).
I wonder which route they’d go? James Bond’s daughter or erasing 60+ years of a very fleshed out character whose sex and gender haven’t ever been up for debate? Either way, I do believe making 007 a woman would put our dear Johnny well over the 100,000 sub’s achievement (replacing the character entirely by making he a she is the worst and most likely outcome; it would also fast track Johnny).
I say this as a woman, feminist (not this crazy 4th or 5th wave type), an Anglophile, and someone pretty good at seeing the finish line; the point Hollywood is trying to make with all of the senseless changes to beloved books is having the opposite consequences.
There have been a ton of original, strong female protagonists by modern standards written in the last 20-30 years. Do THAT; create an entirely new world with all new characters. They can be whoever screenwriters want them to be. I get they don’t come with a built-in fan base, but those fan bases don’t want stupid changes.
I’m sure there are people on TikTok whining that Lara Croft is inherently fat phobic and a representation of oppression fat bodies face and until a 500 lbs, gender neutral person is running around the jungle, descending into caves, and swinging from vines, and are hailed sex god/dess (give Disney or Amazon a year or two), their experiences are the same as… actually, I’m not repeating it. There is a woman who calls herself the fat doctor or something similar and says the most insane, appalling things (it isn’t satire, sadly), it will dismay you that she’s an actual medical doctor.
I need to drink my coffee to slow down my morning ADD brain. Jesus.

You really can't blame the actors, they are given crap from the writers and that's all they have to work with. The best thing Netflix could do is to sell the rights to a production company that would be faithful to the source material. That is if it could even get made after this fiasco. PLUS, as for the geography in the show it seems like the writers seem to be using video game "fast travel" for the characters to be getting around this world.

Costumes? Seriously? When I watched the show they were one of the biggest things I hated. Why on earth are they so modern? Modern fabrics, modern shilouettes, modern accessories. Ciri looks like a random teenager these days - I literally have the exact same jeans and a vest from Concept club in my wardrobe. Yennefer is wearing a flower shirt that looks like modern days Zara, Istredd, just as Geralt is also wearing a very modern jacket, you could easily buy now and don't even get me started on that swimsuit Yennefer is wearing at the ball. Oh boy, is it distracting from the story.
Seeing her and Stregobor in the same shot made me feel like I was watching some cosplay party without any specific theme. At this point they could have also given them red plastic cups instead of glasses, and they would't look odd in the shot.
And that is not to mention that they completely blew off the fact that she is only supposed to wear black and white. God, I hate those costume designes so much.
    P. S. Great review, tho. I totally agree with the rest.

As someone who read all the books, played all the games and kept up with all the news of the series from the moment the first rumours dropped, all I gotta say is it’s the worst piece of dogshit I’ve seen in terms of adaptations. One thing is how they butcher the source material, but that’s not the end all be all. Adapting after all implies change. However, the changes they made are flat out unintelligent. They cannot write and moreover, they cannot comprehend basic worldbuilding logic. They could’ve had the easiest job in the world by just following the events of the books, but they had to «fix» it. One thing that irks me in particular is how small the world feels. Half the books took place on the road and made a big deal out of how travels were hard and long, and it was on these travels they came accross the various adventures they undertook. In the series, they just hop from the northern end of the continent to the southern in the blink of an eye.
Furthermore, Radovid was supposed to be 12 at the time of season 3 and his only real characterization beyond being a child comes from the games - where he is a tyrannical despot who burns mages and nonhumans for fun. Not the greatest choice for gay representation. Particularly when one of the main characters already does that. If they hadn’t wasted so much time with nonsense, they might’ve gotten to those parts of the story before the show gets cancelled.

The joke being that it took fry half an hour to write so he assumed that it would take half an hour to read.
I have since learned that the only difference between Fry and this shows writers is fry's willingness to stick to the source material.

It was a big buildup with zero payoff. Then to top it they split the season into 2 parts to milk Cavill's final presence for as much as they can.
I can kind of see what they were trying to attempt with episode 5 (very badly by the way) because i normally love episodes like this. Agents of Shield season 1 episode 13 T.R.A.C.K.S. achieved what they were trying to do. Similar timeline repeated from different perspectives and done SO MUCH BETTER.

I have no loyalty to the Witcher source material and I though season 1 and 2 were okay (heavily carried by cavil imho) but 2 episodes in to s3 and I just have no desire to watch any more.
I’m not offended by it and Gerald action scenes are very watchable, but it just doesn’t grab me at all…

After another season of the series, I must admit that it looks like an "inside job" of someone who worked for TVP and do everything to make the old Polish series look like a masterpiece of book adaptations

Ok, first I want to clarify I haven't read the books and I haven't played the games (the 1st and 2nd I tried for a while but they didn't do it for me, so I never tried the 3rd, even if everyone keeps telling me "it's the best!"). I criticize the series for what it shows to me, and the stories it gives me.
With that out of the way, I have to say that season 2 was... meh (specially the ending, that last episode started for me as if I just missed an episode before, so... bad), and season 3 started really boring and inconsistent. But I wouldn't know if all the five episodes are boring.
After the 1960s effect of Ciri galloping somewher BECAUSE, my love for the series finished. I started watching episode 4, stopped after the guy (can't even remember his name, that's how memorable or important he was to me) wakes up in his room because the king opens the curtains and sends him on a quest. I gave a thumbs down review, and removed from my list, never to watch again.
So, if you say the whole season sucks, even when it's just half the season, I believe you. :)

I just kept thinking, through the whole season, i really hope we somehow get a future series, in Polish, with Henry, fully 1:1 with the books, and with the correct historical characters of Polish (North European decsent) .. it doesnt need to be full Polish speaking, maybe just the accent in English.. but man, that would make squillions..

The Witcher really could have been a good show if they had better writers but even in the first season the writing was lacking. Henry Cavill deserved better than this.

Since when were there body bags in the middle ages? I know this seems like a small thing to nitpick, but when there's a thousand other nitpicks they turn into a big problem. The fast travel is another major one.

So many pointless scenes and lines. One of the worst line if im not mistaken is the line from Cahir with the fight with ciri near the cliff "Go, i will find you" (in geralt voice) i am like WTF? She don't know him personally and also he is the guy who's been hunting her and burned her kingdom to ashes, and now out of nowhere he is acting like a knight in shining armor!

Honestly I sort of hate the outfits in E5, especially the women's. It's so a-historical and modern looking; I feel like the sorceresses are trying to garner media attention at the 2023 Met Gala(and no, that was not a complement). I mean, come on, Phillipa is wearing a sheer skin suit with nipple pasties and Yen has on a bikini halter top. Of course, apparently the showrunner wanted to avoid any historical influences on the costuming or armor, so what do you expect.

I don't understand how netflix took such a book series and butched anything and everything they could, the casting is terrible, the acting in a lot of places are mid, the designs are dogshit (speaking as an artist with a lot of love for character design), the world is so boring to look at, everything is so grey in most scenes, the writing is absolute garbage, 90% of the series is just fanfiction (if you can even call it that considering the writers and directors etc clearly hates the books and the games that made the series popular in the first place.)
