    Great video! Just got this percolator from my brother in law and it wouldnt percolate. Your video showed me I wasn’t putting enough water (I was using 3 cups). It was just steaming and making hot water. So I hacked the process and used the percolator as a pour over and just poured out the hot water into a Pyrex the. Poured that water back over the basket, twice for good measure. Made great coffee then. Also, if you have a French press, and have extra metal mesh filters, you can get them to fit to the bottom of the coffee basket and then have a reusable filter. Anyway, thank you for such a broad and thorough evaluation of all these percolators. It’s really helped a lot!

      Hi Richard! Thank you so much for your comment, and I'm glad that this video could help you out! Don't worry, I did the exact same thing (too little water) when I first started using percolators haha. Oooh and great job on hacking the process! That works too 😊 And thanks for the great tip on the mesh filters! That's a really great idea especially if you get lots of grounds in the coffee 😊

    if you want the best coffee out of these things, get rid of the stem and basket. put your grounds directly in the pot, add water, boil, and right before you're ready to serve, pour cold water through the spout. this sinks to the bottom and takes all the grounds with it. as long as you don't agitate the pitcher, you shouldn't get any grounds

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey Jeff! Wow thanks so much for the sharing and the input! Never knew that pouring cold water through the spout would help with all the grounds - that's so cool!

    I just used a new GSI for the first time and I followed your video step by step because it is very well explained, and I noticed that the brown color is not as strong, maybe I need more time or more coffee. what do you think ?

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  Před měsícem

      Hey! If the brown color isn't very strong, that means you may need more time or more water. Did you meet the minimum amount of water? And how much coffee did you use? And how long did it perk for?

    Well I don’t know if it was a good deal or a bad on yet , I just bought one last week at a thrift store for $3.98 , it looked like it was only used once , it’s. The same brand that your doing this review on , and I haven’t used it yet ,but the info you gave us is a heads up on it , it won’t be my every day coffee maker I bought it to make coffee while out fishing or camping , but I’ll try it at home just to see how I like it thanks for this video it was informative 👍🏼

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hey Dave! Thanks so much for sharing and I think for $3.98, this is a steal! It works fine as long as you don't overfill it. I wasn't super happy with mine only cos I paid like 5-10x what you paid for yours 🤣

      @@CampingGuidance 🤔well my friend I given it the home test this morning , it made good coffee , my biggest concern was how much coffee to put in the basket as I like it strong but didn’t want to over fill once it was done and get grounds in the pot , and it worked just fine , it filled the house with fresh brewed aroma and added a bit of pumpkin pie spice to it just for the extra Ahhh 😆☕️👍🏼

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  Před 8 měsíci

      @@davescheer5038 Ah I see! I'm really glad that you and your friend managed to make really great coffee out of it! But you're right, just don't overfill it to keep the grounds in the basket! 👍🏼

  • @nickhedayat7505
    @nickhedayat7505 Před rokem

    I'm curious why you use one filter per cup. That alot of filters! Try adding the filter into the basket before you add coffee grinds. Perculate the water for 8-9 minutes. The coffee becomes less bitter.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  Před rokem

      Hi Nick! Thanks so much for the comment and the input! 😊 Oh actually I wanted to come up with another "test" to show how much grounds are left after using each percolator, but I gave up on that hahahaha. 😂 But when I'm actually brewing coffee with percolators (and not filming it for CZcams), I don't actually use filters. The filter in the basket tip is definitely a great tip though!

    I have one of these for 2 years, and I, experience none of it, I am actually satisfied and use mine both on the grill, over open fire and on the stove at home, You must have got a bad copy mine looks like new except for the transparent knob that is matte when I, put it in the dishwasher sometimes

      @CampingGuidance  Před 2 lety

      Hey Pierre, thanks so much for your input and I'm glad that your GSI Enamel Percolator is still going strong! I guess I did probably get a bad one. Hope you can continue to use yours for many more years :)

    • @pierrejester5238
      @pierrejester5238 Před 2 lety

      @@CampingGuidance I hope so too, but you would order another one and see if it's as bad as you had, as I said I don't recognize what you describe.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the suggestion Pierre! I'll definitely keep that in mind but right now one of my favorites is the GSI Outdoors Glacier 3-Cup Percolator because that's the perfect size for me :)
