If you're an outsider marrying into the family you should of dated at least 5 years and upon marrying you should take a year or so to ease into your job as a working member of the family .. the royal family works as one unit and that is to serve the queen and the people... and not about your brand or popularity or your political opinions or wanting to be equal to the queen when you knew what you signed up for ..

Well actually Charles didn't get to marry who he wanted to. Things were different back in those days and they probably started changing because of what happened with Charles and Diana. I don't particularly like the way he said they were supposed to breed either that was despicable. But it is an important job to have an heir. And there is nothing wrong with that it made me sick with Megan's followers started calling Kate she was only good for making babies. being a mother and mother to a future king is a very important role.

Diana knew people were going to be watching her every move as well as talk about her especially how she dressed so she knew she needed to upgrade her look. And after her death her clothes sold for thousands of dollars.

Actually, I don't think it's ever fully Camilla's fault. Yes, keeping contact with your ex while you and your ex already have families on your own is wrong. But the biggest fault is on Charles, when he gave hope, gave signal to Diana that he loves her, made her, convinced her to marry him, when he wasn't even sure about his feeling. And for the worse, it turned out that he still loves Camilla for all this time.
It's sad to see Camilla have to bear people's bad judgments on her, but it is always you reap what you sow.

(This was in reply to Camilla's looks & then goes on into their relationships) However with an heir & spare ...such a vile term. Can you imagine spending your life being called a spare? It's certainly unfortunate that it didn't happen about 20 years earlier due to publicity and more modern day standards. Still, of any woman on earth who's kept a stiff upper lip, never once defended herself no matter how reviled she was fair or unfair, kept plugging along and earned at least respect if not fondness, it's Camilla. I do wish people would stop persecuting her. The pair of them waited forever through no end of hell, disallowed to be together publicly for almost half their lives. You can see him absolutely beaming ever since they got together. I seriously thought he was a very taciturn and grumpy man. Really he was miserably sad & lonely for ages. It's really quite priceless to see him so sublimely happy that it just radiates from him in almost every picture or video you see. And any human that would go through what they did in the way of flak, to still get married as soon as they were allowed, absolutely loves that person heart and soul. I'm not British so my opinion doesn't matter. But I don't think there's any good reason for him not to step into the role he's been training for 7 decades. God bless HMTQ I certainly hope she has good years to go yet. But Charles in my opinion is more than worthy of the relatively short time he'll have on the throne. Honestly, I believe William & Katharine will benefit from watching some of the modernization Prince Charles would like to implement. It will give them growth & likely save them from mistakes that would cause strain because it's a big leap from QEII to their generation. Charles & Camilla will significantly soften the transition. Okay, I'll stop babbling now. Btw, I absolutely loved Diana and still do. It still hurts me she's gone. My endorsement of Charles & Camilla takes nothing away from her. ✌💞

It appears clear to me the Queen Mother is a large source of the monarchy’s issues.
I would say she's the source of the traditional. The values the current Queen grew up learning and taught to her own children, I'd presume. Now if things were the way of the Queen Mum, Charles and Harry would have had to give up their place to the throne because they both married divorcees. That didn't happen, so the Queen isn't as strict in those values as one might think, but she has to be very careful as that is what makes them the RF to begin with.

Shaking hands is not a humanitarian duty. Taking millions from your countrymen in exchange for doing some bs PR events to keep your family in good favor and in power isn’t noble at all. It’s obviously very self-serving and disingenuous. There’s a reason that William was consistently called “work shy William” right before Meghan joined the family. The sad difference between Princess Diana and Meghan is Princess Diana was set up as being a naive young girl in her teens while Meghan was already seasoned woman in her middle 30s and knows the score. So she can't keep using the "naiveness" of being young because at her middle 30s she had one marriage under her belt and many relationships. No excuse and she knew she was getting into in the first place compared to Princess Diana who was totally naive. I was upset that her own sister didn't teach Lady DIana what she should have been watching out. It still upsets me because she was thrown "to the wolf" early on even by her family too.

Hi Trojanette. I think it depends how you define, "Working and earning their keep". The amount of joy and tourist dollars that are generated by the monarchy are the return Britain gets on investing in them, and that means they are earning their keep. It doesn't mean they can take off for other countries, refuse to do royal futies and still be royal. The problems arise when individuals start to think they are better or smarter or more worthy than anyone else instead of being humbled and grateful at being extremely priviledged.

God bless HMTQ I certainly hope she has good years to go yet. But Charles in my opinion is more than worthy of the relatively short time he'll have on the throne. Honestly, I believe William & Katharine will benefit from watching some of the modernization Prince Charles would like to implement. It will give them growth & likely save them from mistakes that would cause strain because it's a big leap from QEII to their generation. Charles & Camilla will significantly soften the transition. People say a lot about Meghan Markle (I'm American) and I never much cared for her, but I do think she and Prince Harry genuinely love each other. The problem comes in when there is the thought that she can transform the monarchy (whether or not it needs transforming is another conversation) and the two of them can live the life they want; Meghan and Harry just simply did not fit into that life and be able to do as they wished--for good or bad, that is again another conversation. Prince Harry has said that he had doubts back in his 20s. I wish them well. I hope they can do the sort of work they wish and live the life they wish--which they cannot do as working royals--from here on out. Perhaps family relations can be repaired - perhaps not. Not all families get along--some wounds are deep and never heal. This must be especially true for a royal family.

Charles has only himself to blame for not only being eclipsed, but people having little interest in him. He failed to realize that the intense media presence during his bachelor days were precisely because people were interested in whom he, as heir apparent, would marry. It wasn’t because of his personality. He needed a public persona that people are drawn to, to be proud of. Instead of showing an interest in people and their well-being, he focused on architecture. His interest in homeopathy caused him to be viewed as too off-beat. He came off as distant, self-involved and boring. Not only did people not see him as a leader, they became concerned about what and how he’d do as king. Would he be an embarrassment, would he be taken seriously by other countries, or would he be a laughingstock. What has saved him in his later years most of all is being, seemingly, an involved and caring father to his two children who lost their mother. And, I think, also because he’s loved the same woman for over 30 years.
Sadly he was too self involved to help his wife. And in my opinion too self involved to be an effective leader. After his mother spent. Her life making the commonwealth a bright light and respected around the world.

Personally Princess Diana had no clue what to expect. If her family knew about what she was getting into they ignored her questions. What is worse being naive she wasn't aware of Prince Charles having a love of his own without her knowledge until the engagement was announced. Was it fair that Prince Charles lied to Princess Diana? After all being 10 years older he should have been fair to her to discuss the truth. That way she would have understood her position as a woman getting married to breed children for the monarch instead of being a young woman that felt in the early onset that she's to be the future queen but be the wife of the King but just a token woman that is wed to the future King without any affection?
