I think he did a fine job considering the quality of steel. Mora has a very inconsistent steel quality, I have an older carving knife (2" blade), it is laminated steel, and sharper than I am.
I bought a Mora carbon last year and have used it for 1 season. It’s still sharp, but not as sharp as I like. So I’ve just recently bought a set of water stones. I was researching how to sharpen this grind as I’ve never owned a knife with a scandi grind before. Here I ran across your video and I am glad I did. Now I have confidence I can sharpen this knife - hopefully as sharp as yours. Thank you for the lesson. Good luck and God Bless
Yes I would love to send you my mora black to make it look just like yours, absolutely ridiculously just beautiful. I am awestruck my friend, just gorgeous!
Thank you for sharing that video. Your demonstration has shown me that I need a higher quality set of sharpening stones to properly maintain my Moras. The polish of the edge that you achieve BEFORE going to the strop is very fine. Time for me to surf Amazon for some wet stones!
Sir, You are a great Teacher. I simply wanted to insure that my great respect was voiced to you. Be at Peace and Stay Well. Always. Respectfully, Nestor, Atlanta GA.
anyone who owns sharpening stones has there own technique, and knows how difficult it is to do well at first. i can tell you have spent a great deal of time sharpening, nicely done.
The Heavy Duty's handle is perfect for bushcraft. I was curious how the new Robust's handle feels in my hand and ordered the new Robust. It looks like a hunting knife. Thanks.
go to japan, thats the only way as of rscent marketing changes the chosera for the international market is good but not great . just the sound on the green 400 grit if great. i am very angry ion naniwa's decision.
A great collection of knives you have (I ve seen your other videos). Mora Bushcraft Black is my favourite in my collection. A superior knife with almost the same treatment as what you have given yours. Cheers!
Hello.. After closer look I saw that portion near tip is slightly convexed after your sharpening session.. Was that desired? It happened to me on few scandi knives and I realized that when sharpening the tip portion, tip must be sticking up to keep scandi grind at that area..but from my experience I must say that convex really nicely reinforces the tip and the edge, so overall its better ! :-)
It is my habit that I raise my hand a bit too high to make an appropriate angle near the tip. And besides my honing motion is something like arc the axis of which is my shoulder joint. So what you mention often happens. The edge near the tip is important to make a skin incision to a deer. So in case the angle near the tip gets too large, I need to resharpen only there to make the angle small enough. Thanks.
I'm not going to discuss your sharpening skills as I wish I could get my knives only half as sharp as you do. :) But I want to mention that the micro bevel on your Mora Bushcraft Black was not a "sharpening accident", it is intended to be there. Mora applies a slight micro bevel to the Bushcraft knives to make the grind stronger as those knives are meant to be used more roughly. If you have a look at other "Scandi" knives for heavier use you will see that most of them have a micro bevel (a so called "Modified Scandi"). To name just a few: Hultafors GK, Mora Garberg, Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110 / 140 Of course you can remove the micro bevel and apply a zero Scandi. But it will result in a weaker (but also sharper) edge.
Excelent work!! I am from Holland,... ans ik like the japaneese accent to.... but you are an exelent craftsmen in my opinion!!! Keep up the good job!!!
I once discarded it some years ago because I didn't feel it nice at all for deer dressing. But I have experienced many knives since then and would like to test it again for both bushcraft and hunting. My most interesting point in the Canadian is Mr. Mike Stewart and many guys are fond of it. I want to know the real reason why and how it is nice through my own experience. Thanks.
Ha! Two belts - ridiculous? The only thing better than two bushcraft belts would be... three bushcraft belts! I love the Mora Bushcraft Black too. It us indeed a "cool knife." I enjoy seeing you having fun with your knives. That's what it's all about. Keep up the great vids!
Yes, the prices of Mora knives isn't just a reflection of the handle, and sheath. I have been working with them all morning, and the cheaper the knife, the softer the steel is. the budget knives are Very frustrating . 511 is the worst, Companion is has better steel, and the Bushcraft has even better steel. I don't have a bushcraft black, but I will buy one.
I have watched several videos about this knife and none of them have mentioned this "secondary" edge, and they were done by CZcams Veterans who seem to know a lot about knives and grinds. I am not saying that you don't know what you are talking about. I'm sure you do. Just saying No One else has pointed this out. Thanks for the video!
a sharp knife is a happy knife my friend. thank you for the video. i now know my next knife is a mora bushcraft black. i have 30 or so knives, and am trying to settle on which three to carry in the woods for work tasks. A large knife, a medium belt knife and a folding pocket knife. The mora will have the medium knife slot on the belt. Thanks again.
WELL Done ! .. i find the hardest part are the curves in the blade ..that needs much Practice , good technique and so on .. You did it VERY Well ..and i believe when a Japanese sharpens your knife on a stone ..you have no questions .. My best knife ..a Autine Leuku came SHARP as HELL (the sharpest knive i´ve ever had ..) Now it needs some maintenance ..i think i will get a Wicked Edge System for safety ..(it´s a good system i think ..)
I do push the bevel onto the strop when I want to polish the bevel or finish the edge fast. DLT leather is thin and doesn't take the bevel deep. So it doesn't make the edge angle large. If I do the same thing on the thick and soft leather, the edge will soon go dull. Thanks.
Sharpened Mora bushcraft black vs. Kellam Wolverine in a wood cut test championship. Who will be the scandi zero grind champion?Stay tuned. Wako, having two belts for different areas is not crazy...its a dream come true. Enjoy!
Mora's bevel angle is less than 25 degrees inclusive. Even after putting a micro convex bevel to it for hunting, its apex angle won't go over 30 degrees. So we can manage its angle for our intended purposes easily. Enzo Trapper seems like having 30 degrees or more out of the box. So micro beveling to it is difficult. Thanks.
I’ve never heard someone say a Mora came out of the box not razor sharp. Makes me wonder if it’s this model or the one you got was not as good as the other 99/100. Learned much as always about sharpening, though.
For Bark River, The-Knife-Connection is relatively low. They offer 5% Instant Rebate Program for Bark River knives and don't forget it. And I think Heinnie Hayness and Brisa from Europe is relatively low as well. Thanks.
They will last all our life. #120, #220, #400 stones have needed flattening once in a while. But I have never thought of it on #800, #2000, #3000 stones. Thanks.
LiL Canadian is a short knife. As a human tool the blade should be around 4 inches and the handle should be around 4.5 inches. And you might suffer from the fat geometry and large edge angle which commonly appears on 3V Bark River knives. A2 knives are sharper and safer to buy in general. Thanks.
Honestly speaking you shouldn't purchase the Edge Pro. I once had it. It is a typical pivot sharpening system. Its honing angle is set at the pivot rod. Therefore as the honing position gets further from the pivot the honing angle gets shallower in theory, and in practice as well. This will hapen on all the pivot sharpening system. Edge sharpening should be done manually. Thanks.
I was given my Lightmyfire Mora from my friend. It was already stropped up and its edge was large angle. I was just curious why that large angle. I understand the reason now. Thank you.
It is new LightMyFire Army model. But I prefer the old red Army model which is selling at DLT trading or KnivesShipFree because the old striker is more efficient than the current one. I like red. Thanks.
Are you sharpening Scandis nowadays by just lifting the belly to tip as shown in your vid on "belly line sharpening", instead of rotating the blade which can reduce the curve of the belly? ATB. Pete.
Great vid. I apreciate the cate you put into sharpening. I havent had great luvk with stones. I am thinking about an Edge Pro. I know it is kind of cheating but do you think I can het a decent edge with it ? Thanks..
I love watching you, you are a true master. I just got the mora garberg in carbon, want to do it like you did the bush craft black with the two tone but scared of messing it up lol. Have you got the carbon version garberg yet
i found stopping with leather like dlt will make micro bevel on knife, i find to just strop on maybe 8ooo water stone i find if i want to use strop on scandi i keep spine a little lowere so edge getts shiney and only knapping touches apex lightly. try it.
"It does not satisfy my standard of sharpness"
I somehow feel inherently ashamed.

You are a true master of your craft. Very impressive. your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing.
The Japanese accent is calming to listen to ^_^
micrubevuru
Well played sir, well played +1
Yes
Yes I would love to send you my mora black to make it look just like yours, absolutely ridiculously just beautiful. I am awestruck my friend, just gorgeous!
I have two belts... Ha Ha Ha... Some will think ridicurous .... No dude, we think your freakin awesome.
Thank you for sharing that video. Your demonstration has shown me that I need a higher quality set of sharpening stones to properly maintain my Moras. The polish of the edge that you achieve BEFORE going to the strop is very fine. Time for me to surf Amazon for some wet stones!
Excellent video. The care you take to sharpen the knife and bring the bevel down was truly beautiful!
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you for your time.
that mora is deffinately one of the nicest looking i've seen
I'm still enjoying this video 8 years later.
I just ordered the Mora heavy duty knife for myself. I will also be ordering the water stones, you have inspired many with your videos. Thank you😊
The Heavy Duty's handle is perfect for bushcraft. I was curious how the new Robust's handle feels in my hand and ordered the new Robust. It looks like a hunting knife. Thanks.
Very nice video and great job at improving the sharpness of the mora. Thank you for sharing.
I started convexing my Moras and couldn't be happier, the performance is greatly increased
this was very professional but the mmmmmhhh cracked me up, very good too watch
Nice quality set of water stones, wish I could get my hands on some. God Bless! Thumbs up!
go to japan, thats the only way as of rscent marketing changes the chosera for the international market is good but not great . just the sound on the green 400 grit if great. i am very angry ion naniwa's decision.
So glad you had a BPS knife too. They are amazing. Only thing I trust as much as my Mora. Great video.
your sharpening skills are an inspiration mate, I have given you a hard time on another video but rest assured you have my respect
Dude great work, I subscribed to your channel. I love listening to you talk. Do more videos on bushcraft and knife sharpening.
Beautiful work. Great demo. Thank yo for teaching us all.
"my 'garage' bushcraft knife", then, I have two belts"... I laughed WITH you on that....
Great video, thank you sir!
I cant get over how easy you always make sharpening look !! Its not easy. You must have been a samauri in a previous life.
Thank you for posting your video. You have an amazing skill for sharpening knives.
Very impressive skills. Thank you for posting this. Ive seen dozens of mora reviews, and this one is very different and very informative.
Excellent channel! I like contemplating earth, explore and calm down...
Japanese English so beautiful...can keep hearing it all day long...so soothing...
A great collection of knives you have (I ve seen your other videos). Mora Bushcraft Black is my favourite in my collection. A superior knife with almost the same treatment as what you have given yours.
Cheers!
This is incredibly relaxing as a knife guy. Very satisfying.
you keep on you what you feel you need, i thank you for your posts and hepful directions
Hello I admire your knives and appreciate your videos. You take a lot of care sharpening I learn from your method thankyou Eric
I don't find it ridiculous at all. I love knives and love to sharpen them. Nice video!
You are the Master Sir, Thank You :-)

Wow, you are a very good sharpener. I'm very impressed with your hard work. MORAKNIV rocks!!
I'm not going to discuss your sharpening skills as I wish I could get my knives only half as sharp as you do. :)

Yes the micro bevel has a purpose. Figured this would be common knowledge, especially among the so-called knife 'experts'
You are not alone with this knife. Mine came with micro bevel as well.
Excelent work!! I am from Holland,... ans ik like the japaneese accent to.... but you are an exelent craftsmen in my opinion!!! Keep up the good job!!!
Now that's an edge. Nice job sharpening very consistent.
I once discarded it some years ago because I didn't feel it nice at all for deer dressing. Super video 👍👏👏👏🇨🇿
you couldn't hear it, I whistled out loud at 6:13 after you stropped. beautiful job!

i forgot ...i get the Mora Black today and ..Yes as you say ..it´s sharp ..but not THAT Sharp ..the Mirror Polish looks great !!
You are a sharpening expert! I was wondering where I could get my hands on some sharpening stones like the ones you have.
Thank you. -Blessings!

I have the very same knife and it does indeed come with a secondary bevel. It's not the only Mora to have one either...

Like the phrase..... for now i like to admire its beauties....
maybe that's why they put the micro bevel on this knife model only, which as you noted is unusual for mora, to remove the coating on the edge..
Its an exellent awsome knife. All Mora is good knives.
You say a very interesting point. Thank you.
For Bark River, The-Knife-Connection is relatively low. They offer 5% Instant Rebate Program for Bark River knives and don't forget it. And I think Heinnie Hayness and Brisa from Europe is relatively low as well. Thanks.

Wow,thats a beautiful edge
Wonderfully skilled hands my friend. I have watched and liked your other videos but I will subscribe now. I hope to learn your skills some day.
Awesome Wako! Scary sharp!
you sure know how to sharppen - well done - thanks
My favorite shika hunter

I reprofiled mine too. It took a long time even with a diamond stone.

80 grit sand paper can rough up the nap of the leather if it is to slick and glazed with compound
AWESOME WORK! Amazing!
They are expensive but deserve the money. Naniwa Chosera stones. They cut 3 times or more faster than King stones.
It is new LightMyFire Army model. But I prefer the old red Army model which is selling at DLT trading or KnivesShipFree because the old striker is more efficient than the current one. I like red. Thanks.
I like your bit. It makes me concentrate more on what your doing than what you're daying. Keep up the great videos. Oh, what type of stone are those?
Lordbrega Naniwa Chosera 400, 800, 3000 stones. Overseas version doesn't have a base generally. Thanks.
Fantastic video!
Tops BOB seems to satisfy your needs. Thanks.
very instructive video, thanks.
Are you sharpening Scandis nowadays by just lifting the belly to tip as shown in your vid on "belly line sharpening", instead of rotating the blade which can reduce the curve of the belly? ATB. Pete.
Yes. I now completely understand it is a wrong way to rotate the blade to sharpen the belly on all kinds of the grinds. Thanks.
We live and learn!!! Thanks for the reply.
mora black is very hard to mach at a cost of 40 bucks..
I don't even won't the new 100$ mora. think it's crap, and I love most all morakniv knifes..
Very Nice.
This guy could sharpen the ass end of a laser beam. Man who moras flies out of the air, accomplish anything.
👌excellent.
9:46
who cares.
As long as you're happy with it.
Thanks for your demonstration. You can't have too many knives or belts. :~)
Awesome vid virtuovice! Arigato.
Arigato Virtusan for very good video.
Excellent job!
awesome video like always, thanks.
Says it came dull, proceeds to slice the paper perfectly.
His definition of sharp is above and beyound Mora's.
Great vid. I apreciate the cate you put into sharpening. I havent had great luvk with stones. I am thinking about an Edge Pro. I know it is kind of cheating but do you think I can het a decent edge with it ? Thanks..

14C28N is tough enough for me. Thanks.
i have to say, that the edge is not perfect but it is defently a very good edge.
i found stopping with leather like dlt will make micro bevel on knife, i find to just strop on maybe 8ooo water stone i find if i want to use strop on scandi i keep spine a little lowere so edge getts shiney and only knapping touches apex lightly. try it.
Never too many knives!
