The HX Stomp is the greatest pedal ever created! It's almost too good to be true. I play bass and I was able to replace my entire pedalboard with just this one pedal. I didn't have a whole lot going on, but I had a SansAmp, some fuzz, distortion, octave, and a couple other pedals for fun like a phaser, and I was able to replace literally everything with this one pedal and I swear it sounds 99% as good, furthermore I have WAY more options now. Nobody listening in a mix would be able to tell the difference. It's almost too powerful! The Darkglass X7 model in the Stomp sounds almost perfect, and the Darkglass is a $300 pedal alone! It's really amazing what you can do with this pedal.
The only thing I really wish it had was just 1 combo XLR/TRS input (2 preferred) and an XLR out like every other DI (to be fair it does have balanced outputs but it's just not the same). Then it would be absolutely perfect because it would also replace my audio interface! I know that would be a lot to ask and it has so many ins/outs already that there might not be room for it, but if they could make that happen then... damn. Absolute perfection.

Great vid. I snagged one last week as a backup for my AxeFXIII. Bring to the practice space and use it with a 50w 5150 III in 4CM and ran into noise issues (looking to troubleshoot with different amps). Ended up using it DIR into the return and used the EVH 212 cab and sounded ok....still need to tweak some presets for live and practice.
Love to see you try it as 4CM with a high gain amp (5150 or the like...). Love you vids 😎👍

I freaking love you for this mate! I'm looking to buy one and you've absolutely sold me on it! Trying to figure out how I can use it, so I don't do stupid stuff with it, but I think guitar in, direct in my PC is all I want. Plus for live straight into the PA with a full sound, a couple of extra footswitches and an expression pedal is gonna be *swell*. I really like it! Thank you!

Leon you have quite the breadth of knowledge regarding this modeling world. The reason you're my favorite is because you actually gig live with these devices. I think many presets and models can be made to sound great pretty effortlessly in isolation or recording. However, LIVE playing is a different animal. [E.G. what sounds great recorded is sometimes too distorted live a la 'less is more' etc etc. etc.] I know you prefer AXE FX but if you ever wanna make me some gig worthy HELIX LT PATCHES you can charge me for them!!! Lastly, I know some people are purists regarding guitar tones but for those of us that play in cover bands playing weddings, casinos etc. and require chameleon like variety these suckers are a Godsend and relatively fairly cheap to boot! LOL

You can always use the HX Stomp in the FX loop of tube amps for delay, verb, etc!

Great tones, cool video! A suggestion for a video: get a real amp through a load and compare it with the same amp model on HX stomp and the AxeFx through the same IR, all with the same settings. I'm gonna guess it will sound a little different, maybe then try to get them as close as possible to the real amp. Very few videos using this approach, yet I think it would be a really cool experiment. BTW, with the Helix platform you have to be a little careful about the sample rate of the IR's, it has to be the proper sample rate (16 bit/48kHz), if not the Helix IR loader adds a high end hump.
Ha! Razor King! I never noticed before But Cub Koda from Brownsville Station supposedly plugged into 2 Fender Twin Reverbs using a y cord! I always wondered how he got his sound now listening to it sounds like Really Hard Rock guitar with clarity and Really wet sounding drippy he was using a lot of Reverb! Or maybe just the right amount!

I know you're a fan of the Fractal stuff (.fantastic!), but man, you get the HX Stomp sounding very coinvincing , and it sounds inspiring to play thru..The 3rd party IR's and your suggested tweeks make this really hard to beat for $500 street price.

Also are those EQ cuts something than can be edited into an IR to save using a block for the EQ?

Decided since I have a ton of tube amps I love, I will skip the AXE Fx and just buy an HX Stomp for late night headphone/monitor practice. The tube amps sound glorious but not at late night volume levels. The Axe would just be way overkill and I'd end up tweaking it more then playing it. How about dialing in some Marshall amp models with humbuckers.

Hello, I bought this pedalboard and I tested on the amp's returno and it was too bad the simulations of amplifiers. You can make a video linking it on the amp's return and how to configure it. I realize that there is no way. Just a miracle. IT IS EXCELLENT BUT ON THE AMP RETURN IS HORRIBLE, BUT WITH CABS SIMULATION ARRIVES IN AN EQUITABLE ACCEPTABLE. LAMENTABLE ... CAN YOU HELP ME?
In terms of user-interface, Line 6 never disappoints.
Would be nice, if you could do a comparison between let's say "backup units" .. I mean modelers like : Ampero 2 Stomp, Boss GT Core 1000, Mooer GE300Lite , Line6 HX Stomp etc... In case: which one to choose if you AXE III of FM9 will die on the stage, which one sounds the best incl. I/O posibilities ... What backup system do you have? Thx
Nice Holy Diver! Lol. It sounds good, but like you said in a reply the Atomic sounds a bit better to my ears. Personal preference I think. It's not like the Line6 stuff is junk. It's just personal preference and probably versus budget.

I turn the highs down in the global EQ to 7.0 and it sounds great

Do you find the scallop neck on the YJM Strat gives you tuning challenges with excessive pressure when fretting notes and if you've adapted was it quick or is it an ongoing issue you need to keep front of mind? Any other scallop neck issues?

Just a quick question... Do the amps have reverb? Or do you always need to use a reverb block?
No amp reverb. The Cab block allows one to blend in early reflexions to get a bit of an "in the room" vibe going 😉
Hi I just got an HX Stomp and can't seem to find a way to delete a preset, or at least reset it to an empty one.I'd like to create playlists with select presets, but haven't figured out how to do that. Thx
probably easiest to use the software editor and delete all the blocks in a given preset and rename it.
What modeller would you pick on budget In the range of say hx stomp and the atomic amplifier.
Running an AA6 as my main backup at the moment, sounds awesome. HX would be better if you need an interface.
Leon Todd Where did you get your AA6? I’m in Brisbane and struggling to find anything Atomic Amps or Fractal. Everywhere only has Line 6 stuff!!

It’s hard to beat the HX Stomp with the plethora of features for the price, when you say you need more effects blocks, then the Helix LT comes into play but it comes with a much larger form factor and then you could creep up a bit more and get the Fractal AX8. The GUI on the Line 6 looks great, especially on the Line 6 Floor and also on the various Line 6 desktop editors. If you were purely working in the box I guess you could go with Helix Native but a midi controllable footswitch like the Morningstar MC6, RJM Mastermind LT, Source Audio Soleman, Disaster Area Designs would still be a nice addition for physical control/tactile feedback or setting midi patch/program changes in your chosen daw using automation
The Atomic Amps AmpliFire (original/6/12) all have dual audio outputs from what I can see vs only one on the Line 6 HX Stomp which would give more flexibility for many that need to send one signal to their traditional amp and the other to the mixing board or audio interface much like you get on the Fractal AX8 and the other larger modelling pedalboards from Line 6 & HeadRush
Hi Leon! What's your thought on Headrush Gigboard? Would you like to try one? I'm interested in Ax8(or its successor), HX Stomp and Gigboard now.
Love the UI but the tones didn't really do it for me. For what I need the pecking order is AX8 > Amplifire 6 > HX Stomp > Headrush. An AX8 with the headrush UI would be insane.
Choptones & Marco Fanton are doing paid preset packs for the HeadRush now. Michael Britt whom is one of the main Kemper Profiler gurus has done paid preset packs for the Atomic Amps AmpliFire and Line 6 Helix (although HX Stomp is excluded maybe due to it’s lack of processing power and block limitations). They would be worth checking out. Fractal seems more about the cab packs from OwnHammer, York Audio, ML Sound Labs, Austin Buddy, etc

andycc231 maybe one day we might see Leon making some presets for the various modellers on the market. Thankfully Leon has given us all some great overviews on many of these devices to help us make a more informed decision on buying one of these units as often we don’t have access to these ourselves to try first hand or can’t sit at your local guitar store for hours playing with each device
What’s that fuzzing out as the notes die out at 2:12-2:15? Is that a gate engaging? I keep hearing that and it’s annoying.

I was going to ask that as well...sounded very unlike a fender amp. Thought my laptop had a speaker problem, but then the voice sounded fine. Kind of putting me off picking of a stomp! Leon, with the gate off do the note tails ring/sustain as expected?

HX all the way. However pay a little more and get the Fractal FM3 when it comes out and it'll be all you ever need.
