    • @PinchTune
      @PinchTune Před 2 lety +3

      @@Simrin I really, really like it. No regrets. However, I did learn a few things... I haven't used it as deeply as I would like or should. Reason being, I put it on my large pedalboard and it shares too many sounds with other things I have on the board... barring modulation. I trigger a few things on it with a Morningstar controller. I plan to move it to it's own little board with only an analog overdrive and maybe a reverb, this way, when I'm using this small board I have to rely 100% on it. That way it'll gets used properly. I liked the idea of having it on my large board as it can be hardware bypassed, unlike the Boss GT-1000 Core. This however, proved to be better in theory than in real life. Yes, it has true-bypass, but when it's on, it processes the signal considerably differently than other pedals on the board. I feel the sound changes too much between it on and it in true-bypass. Like, for example, the way it reacts to overdrives pedals in its input. I think it's better suited to being on all the time. That way you adjust your sound on the amp to play excellently with it, and then it always sounds right.

    • @Simrin
      @Simrin Před 2 lety

      @@PinchTune Brilliant! Thanks so much for the detailed response! Would like to try one out before I buy but it's not the same trying it out in a guitar shop. I've heard so many good things online and from friends. Your thinking of having it on a smaller board and taking some pedals off is exactly what I'm thinking. Interesting to hear how it processes the signal considerably differently than other pedals on the board. Was wondering about that.

    • @PinchTune
      @PinchTune Před 2 lety +1

      @@Simrin Yeah, totally. One thing I noticed is that when using it as a multi-fx pedal with pedals before and after it, I have to run the volume knob at max. That makes it more even. Then, in a Facebook thread, somebody pointed out how it responds to gain pedals before it. So I tested that I noticed the difference. But anyway, I don't want to make those things sounds like cons. If you use it the center of your sound, and it's always on, then it's GREAT. As a MultiFx pedal within a board, I think I would prefer the small original HX Stomp.

    • @Simrin
      @Simrin Před 2 lety

      @@PinchTune Thanks. I was thinking of this as an advantage of having good sounding multi-fx with the option of the amp modelling, so probably on all the time I would imagine. There are a couple of cool boutique pedals I would like to add on later down the line though, or some other synth-y ones like the Eventide H9 Max

    Simply said, I just jam rock classics with backing tracks and all I care about is not in detail what the multi effects can do but
    1- Easy access to large amount of free or affordable quality custom tones (I have not been happy with Boss tone central is terrible)
    2- Can a custom tone from line 6 Helix (large selection of custom tones) be transposed/downloaded into HX stomp / HX stomp XL?
    Maybe you have an idea why I just find it impossible to find this info but I just don't know of anyone wanting to invent new sounds but have fun playing a quality rock classic sound.

    I have and I am enjoying a Pod GO. What I would like to understand is if the Line 6 HX Stomp XL will give me more power to use a more diverse chain of pedals and amp. Considering that the Volume/wah which is fixed in the POD GO chains is useless for me. Thank You

    • @SalvaVentura
      @SalvaVentura Před 3 lety +2

      El HX Stomp XL tiene hasta 8 bloques de efectos con la última actualización y los puedes mover como quieras, tiene la mitad de DSP que una Helix LT (y Helix Floor), pero puedes hacer más ruteo de señal además de hacerlo en paralelo que con la POD GO por lo que según cuentas es más aconsejable para ti (si dispones de otros pedales de calidad ya en tu equipo).
      Ahora bien, si no dispones de otros pedales de calidad y necesitas un "todo en uno", como en mi caso, prefiero la POD GO debido a que con esos 4 bloques de efectos tengo suficiente, ya que siendo un 90% de la capacidad total de 1 chip de DSP que tiene el Stomp, sigue teniendo la mayoría de los tonos de Helix, pantalla más grande y pedal de expresión siendo una opción ligera y compacta para transportar, aparte de que el HX Stomp XL cuesta 261€ más que la POD GO que la he visto a 439€ cuando venía costando últimamente 477€ (699€ actualmente para el HX Stomp XL); y si haces cuentas por 226€ más que ahorres tienes el Helix LT con pedal de expresión, más pulgadas de pantalla todavía, y el doble de DSP ya que tiene 2 chips de DSP en total al igual que la Helix Floor.
      Por eso, por calidad, precio y prestaciones yo personalmente prefiero la POD GO. Ahora teniendo todo esto claro plantéate qué es lo que verdaderamente necesitas, es cuestión de ver las necesidades que tenemos cada uno como músicos: prácticamente partimos de la misma calidad de sonido, la diferencia es la complejidad de procesos que necesites para personalizarlo además del manejo que te haga falta para cada situación. Tanto la POD GO como sus primos mayores de Helix son muy buenas máquinas. Espero que te haya servido de ayuda.

    No XLR balanced outs? In a unit that's 700 Euro? Bold.
    For reference, the 'big' Headrush unit which is often cited to be the 'big' Helix' main competitor is now priced at 846 Euro ( incl. expression pedal! ). And here you'd get the 'small' Helix without XLR outs or expression pedal for only 140 Euro less than the main competitor of your 'big' board?
    Still, amazing player, good demo, ok sounds. The unit will find its buyers. Thank you very much for the upload!

      @TheGrandmaMoses Před 3 lety

      @@jorismak Yeah, he mentioned in his demo that it's meant to be used on your pedalboard, aiming at the person who uses a real amp with it. From that perspective it makes sense to have quarter jacks as outs.
      Then again, if you designed it specifically for this purpose, why even have amp/cab sims at all? Why not just have all the drives and effects on it and depend on your amp and the 4 cable method with it then, dropping the price by a few hundred bucks?
      You'd still have the 'big' Helix with XLR outs if you want to use the amp / cab sims then, and the demonstrated unit would fill a nice, well-defined niche as well.
      On a 700 Euro unit with internal amp/cab sims (!) you could be forgiven for expecting both outs, as using XLR balanced outs would be the tried and tested method to connect such a unit to the FoH or your mixing desk for smaller bands.
      But it's not a huge deal I guess, just something that immediately caught my eye.

    • @TheGrandmaMoses
      @TheGrandmaMoses Před 3 lety

      @@kenthhamner2641 I think we can all agree that the choice of not having XLR balanced outs is not about 'allowing' anything, it's about cutting cost on a feature that they felt their target audience wouldn't need, so they could get away with it. If we can't agree on that point or if we think that not having the outs is a 'feature', then we won't ever see close to eye to eye on the matter.
      Also, the use of pedals 'with it' works just as well with or without balanced outs, it makes absolutely no difference on the matter at hand. It's obviously where you plug INTO that we are discussing, not what you plug into IT via input or FX loop. TRS outs imply you plug into an amp for most of / all the time, XLR outs imply you plug into a mixing desk. It's just the way I see it, there is no hard rule on it, just my preference - like lots of audio stuff is just preference.
      So, all I said and which I'm sticking to is that a multifx floor unit that does amp modeling is expected to have balanced outs above a certain price point, and this unit ( to me! ) crosses that point without providing the outs. I say that because there are units that do provide the outs, the Headrush for example, that also provide an expression pedal and other bells and whistles like routing capabilities and a TOUCHSCREEN for a very small price increase, so that feels - again, TO ME - like a much better bang for your buck.
      You basically made my point for me, but I feel I can't bring it across very well, maybe it's the language barrier: For a unit containing only effects and drives without amp modeling it makes sense to exist without balanced XLR outs, so the HX Effects makes complete 'sense' in my mind.
      For a medium- to higher-priced unit with amp modeling it doesn't make sense to exist without balanced outs - this is just my opinion, not gospel! - and that is seen by me as a cost-cutting feature that jumped right into my eye and underwhelmed me instantly, although it is not a big deal as mentioned numerous times by now. It was literally just the first thing I noticed about the unit, so I commented on it.
      But if YOU like it, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just my opinion, it's just the first thing that hit me when looking at the unit, nothing more, nothing less. Let me add that I really do enjoy this discussion and trying to get some points across in english, it's so rare for me to be able to try that in another language in a more comprehensive format.
      Have a nice day!

    Basic problem for me is it’s too exxy. It’s been ages since the helix, there’s lots more competition and when they should have been cutting the prices or updating the hardware they effectively jacked up the price. The price increase over the stomp is way too much for adding a few switches in a different box so long after release.
    But it costs that to justify the cost of the LT to justify the cost of the rack and floor models.

      I will admit that I don’t see this product iteration as particularly useful. The pod go seems a better value. The original is more portable, and this...satisfies no niche that I can think of.
      However, I find your complaint weird too. While the crusty tubeheads always beg off digital gear by touting the fact that their 1930’s tech is still the same as it was in the ‘60’s, and the fancy digital stuff will be obsolete in a decade, the digital guys are kvetching that the manufacturer continues to support their product, rather than abandoning it for capture tech used by their competitors? Maybe it’s because I don’t own a stable of precious vintage amps that I don’t want to take to the bar, but I don’t understand what the big deal is with profiling.

That’s $599+$229+another cable+programming. $828. The XL for $750 seems like a better solution for my needs. I had a Kemper, it was OK. Ironic you compare it here seeing as the Kemper is now 10 years old, and the only thing they have done is what you are complaining about: repackage the exact same thing into a different shape. They didn’t even add any switches. The quad cortex amp profiling is nowhere near what the Kemper is capable of from what I have heard online. If it was, I would be considering it.

I was going to go with my original idea even after this was announced, but 4 snapshots vs. 3 was what sealed it. I’m glad I figured that part out before I bought the original stomp. I know you can program the MC6 to turn multiple blocks off and on and basically program your own snapshots, but that is over complicating what is intended to be my “simple” rig. 4 snaps will give me clean / dirty / solo / and whatever specialty sound the song might need. It’s still limited. On the helix I have those three snaps plus a lead setting that adds some midrange, 2db of gain, and slightly more reverb. It’s used to peak out of the mix for single line stuff that isn’t a solo, but is important for the song. For the extra snaps I have various ambient settings for making filler noise during transitions.

    • @TheGrandmaMoses
      @TheGrandmaMoses Před 3 lety +5

      You're right, you use about 5 different presets in a cover band. Your basic chugga-chugga-hair, your Fender cleans, your overproduced chorus+delay pop sound, your Tubescreamer/Klon solo tone and your full gain solo tone with loads of delay. Maybe a distorted rhythm sound in there if you don't use your Tubescreamer/Klon preset without engaging the overdrive pedals for that purpose.
      You can get them from pedals 'easily', meaning if you spend equal amounts of money to what a good multifx costs on 6-7 pedals and a board and the power supply, but you can't switch between them as easily - say, in the middle of a song - without extra equipment ( think Quartermaster ) and probably MIDI knowledge ( which would lead people to say that you have to be an engineer as well ).
      Why do you feel the different amps don't work in a band setting, could you elaborate? Having a 'good' multifx unit being able to switch between an AC30, a Twin Reverb and a Plexi without the need to have them on stage, to me, feels like an absolute advantage on part of the multifx units compared to analog. Not having to log that 4x12 around feels like another. And the omission of the whole mic'd amp concept on stage feels like a third definite advantage. In my experience, the multifx units sound CLOSER on stage to how they do at home than mic'd up amps do.
