Bandsaw blade breaks are one of the unfortunate realities of how bandsaws work. Anytime you have steel under high tension it can fracture, but by knowing what to look for you can avoid having the blade break while the machine is running.

i was just looking up bandsaw breaking because might be getting one, if i get the space i'm aiming for. And really good video. gave a lot of information that makes me more confident in getting a bandsaw. Though still gotta figure out what machine to get. Just hard to know what are good affordable brands.

If it helps, I can confidently recommend the Rikon Model 10-326 (the one I have). I just finished a up a project where I resawed a bunch of white oak and this saw never skipped a beat. It's also not super expensive for your first bandsaw. The other one I would recommend is the Laguna 14/TWELVE, I've heard alot of good things about that saw as well.

Band saws are the only tools that I am actually scared of. It’s not even the blade breaking that scares me, it’s not even something I can explain. They just make me uneasy

I get that, they're one of those machines that just seem questionable. I would really recommend starting with a small 10" one just to get used to it, since those ones are much less intimidating than the larger ones. Once you spend some time around a bandsaw and get comfortable the possibilities they bring to your shop they are awesome. As you get further into woodworking, you’ll find that bandsaws are one of the safest saws in the wood shop. Table saws are far, far more dangerous due to kickback. Bandsaws don’t kickback and they are a safe way to rip down wide, twisted boards to smaller boards to joint. There is no way I’d rip a twisted board on a table saw.

Happened to me three times so far. It is a bit of a jump scare but apart from that nothing bad - as long as the blade guard is lowered as far as it should. I could imagine that if the blade guard is all up and the fingers are too close that could be a bad timing for a break because the unguided part might slap over the table. I therefore try to keep that in mind and not to get close to the blade. 🙋🏻‍♀️Anna

That's good point, looking at the insert around my blade I can see where the tail end hit so you definitely don't want to risk having your hand near there when it happens!
