They did have a special friendship. On the morning that Kenny passed away, Dolly tweeted an amazing, video eulogy, almost before the news had gotten around. She's such a treasure, and Kenny was as big of an icon as could be.

Their most famous duet is Islands in the Stream which was a crossover hit written by the Bee Gees. They also did a beautiful duet later in their careers called You Can't Make Old Friends which is just a sweet song. Kenny's most famous songs are the Gambler but it is probably Lady, written by Lionel Ritchie which you should listen to cement you as a Kenny Rogers fan. Dolly has so many hits but her signature song is I Will Always Love You, which Whitney Houston later famously covered as a pop tune, but her most autobiographical song is Coat of Many Colors. Dolly has literally written over 5000 songs. Both had a long history of doing duets with other artists too though but Kenny and Dolly together was a unique pairing. Also worth a listen is any of the songs that Dolly, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris sang together, they did two albums together called Trio I and II which have astounding harmonies between three legendary women.

I live in Nashville and have seen most of the country music stars in person. Dolly is very short. She is only 5'0 tall. She wears large heels often. In the 70s my uncle took Dolly's sister, Rachel Parton, to prom. Dolly lives in Brentwood, TN which is south of Nashville. We have family pictures of my uncle and Rachel Parton at my Grandmother's home.

I suggest Kenny, when he was still with The First Edition... "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" (react to the record); also, "Coward of the County" (official video).
For Dolly, my all-time favorite, of hers, is "Hard Candy Christmas"; then, "9 to 5" (official vid - the sound of the typewriter, is her playing her acrylic nails - it even said that, in the liner notes).
One of the best, ever, Country collaborations---the only ones that come close, are, probably, Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, and Tammy Wynette and George Jones.
    Loved your reaction, as always!!!

Yes Kenny doing it solo. And compare with the vid of Kenny AND the writer Lionel Richie doing it together. The bit of history at the beginning of that vid with Kenny onstage talking to/about Lionel and the writing of Lady is great. And when Lionel is singing the Ladyyyyyyyyy and Kenny is trying to get him to add the bounce is pure gold.
