Kenny asked Linole Richie to write him a song… this song was the result . Kenny was the original artist. There is also live video where Linoel came on stage and they stung it together. A masterpiece for sure. RIP Kenny, we miss you!
I love that video!
Love this song. I recently saw a documentary or interview about Kenny and Lionel Richie was interviewed. I never realized how deep their friendship was. Lionel said when he came up with the Idea for USA got Africa “We Are the World”, Kenny was either the first (or one of the first) he contacted. He made a point of saying something about that’s why Kenny is close to the beginning of the song. May Kenny Rogers RIP. If you haven’t done “Islands in the Stream”, with Kenny and Dolly Parton, you should. They, also, had a special friendship.
I had to chuckle when you mentioned spouses singing this song. I’ve been married 47 years and never once has my husband serenaded me. If he did it now, I would know something was up. LOL
Kenny Rogers had a great voice and he really knew how to use it! He was also a wonderful performer.
Song was written by Lionel Richie, his best friend. Also a great singer songwriter. Love Kenny. R.I.P
This was a song my husband sang to me….always makes me teary. Along with Through The Years 🥲
The Man, The Legend Kenny Rogers. Another beautiful song is Through the Years. Beautiful song for wedding anniversaries. RIP Kenny we love you and will never forget you!
The look on your face as you were listening--as if you were thinking of someone special--as you heard the words, was adorable. You were truly 'feeling' this song. Thanks for sharing.
Every time this was played on the radio my husband used to sing this to me. He had a beautiful voice and I would just sit back and let it wash over me. Put a smile on my face everytime. Unfortunately I lost him in 2020 but whenever I hear this song it brings back wonderful memories. Thank you for reacting to it.
😘😘😘😘
I saw Kenny Rogers perform in Wyoming at Cheyenne frontier days in the 1970s! He was on a portable stage and the rain was pouring down in torrents! They wanted to shut the show down until Kenny came on stage in a yellow rain slicker… He said I’m not afraid of a little rain and these people came to see a show!! And boy did he sing!!! Talk about true grit!! Love him to this day!!
Through the Years is another beautiful one by Kenny.
There is a video out there of Kenny when he invites Lionel Richie to come up and sing with him. Check it out and you will see what great friendship is all about. You won't stop smiling. He also tells the story of how the song was written. Hilarious
I will have to see if I can find it! Sounds great!! 😃
That was a really sweet video.
Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands in the Stream” is an absolute must and you must find a live version. Then you can see why they were such great duet partners. They feed off each other. Their friendship was unlike anything else. Still there are rumors that there was something between them which they both deny. Another great duet from them is “You Can’t Make Old Friends”
I totally agree!! There are multiple live performances of this song, even a performance right before he passed. Please do this reaction!
Yes wonderful song!!!… but wrote by The Bee Gees… so the chance that he’s heard it is high.
Oh I love this duet! One of the very best!
One of the most romantic songs ever written. Greatest collaboration with Lionel Ritchie writing this song and Kenny's raw delivery of a masterpiece.
One of those songs you always turn up.
Great reaction Craig. Glad we didn't see any tears from you when Kenny reved it up at the end. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Through the Years", "She Believes In Me", "You & I" (written by the Bee Gees) etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.
Kenny started out his career with a band called the "First Edition" A totally different song than you have ever heard from Kenny was a song called "I Just Dropped in" If you watch the video, pay special attention to the drummer. You have seen him in many movies and TV shows.
May I add the name of the songs with 1st Edition I like most? "Ruby, Don't THE your Love to town" & "What Condition My Condition Was In". Thanks !!
@@bonnielambert6315 "Just Dropped in" was the name of the song, What Condition.............................. were part of the lyrics.
My bad, u r ✅ also auto correct
Don't TAKE your love to town
@@bgallagher8129 However, the name of the song on my old record is "I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In). :)
Love his gravelly voice.
I was lucky enough to see a Kenny and Dolly Parton tour in Billings, Montana in the 80's and it was spectacular!!
Love Kenny! He and Dolly have some of the best onstage chemistry (they were great friends). Also, there is a great video where Kenny is honoring Lionel Richie and tells a funny story about how he got Lionel to write this song. Then Lionel comes up on stage, and they sing this song together. It was awesome! Highly recommend.
Kenny is the best. He has so many songs you can tackle. They are all awesome!!
I got to see Kenny Rogers live in concert. He has such a great sense of humor and he's such a sweet guy. Absolutely love his music!!
Songs by Kenny Rogers that you should check out....
Coward of the county
The greatest
The Gambler
You decorated my life
Lucille
She believes in me...
You can't go wrong with any song by Kenny Rogers! ❤❤❤
RIP Kenny Rogers... I saw him in concert 5 times back in the 80s and 90s. 2 times at the Omni in Atlanta.. his guest for one was Dolly Parton,. And the other time was Dottie West. I saw him 3 times at the Fox theater in Atlanta where he used to do special Christmas shows. Every time was a wonderful show, and you are correct, he didn't need flashy sets and gimmicks, just his wonderful voice and sense of humor.😍
I grew up with him because my parents were fans. Kenny Roger's is what I grew up thinking was the ideal man!
My late husband used to sing this to me. He was only 47 when he passed away. It’s been 24 years and I still miss him.
I saw him live in 1980, I think. It was a concert in Mississippi at a college. He was wonderful! Dottie West was there too and they sang together.
The only thing better than Kenny is Kenny and Dolly ❤️ this song really highlights his amazing vocal abilities.
Kenny's voice has melted a lot of butter over the years.
Yes, I love Kenny!!!! One of the best artists ever. He doesn't need lights, dancers, and all that stuff because he can Sang!!! I grew up listening to him. Some of my best childhood memories is just hanging out with my parents and sisters while we listened to Kenny and sang with him. 😁❤
I saw him in concert once but I have a funny story. I was in an Italian restaurant in Toronto Canada with a group of woman. We got together before the concert to have dinner. A white stretch limousine pulled up and Kenny Rogers got out. He was also having dinner there. He walked in and when he saw us he stopped to say hello and asked if we were going to the concert. He was happy to hear we were and he was so lovely. I will never forget that, a gentleman through and through!!!!!!
I met him back in 1995... a friend took me to his show in Tampa, FL and we got to watch the entire show from back stage with his family... He definitely has fun during his show.. they throw frisbees, t shirts, etc ...he was a wonderful man and surely is missed...
We saw him in concert with Dolly Parton in Austin, Texas in 1984… as you would guess it was amazing!!!
I saw him two times in the 80's. Once with he and Dolly Parton and once solo. Yes he sang this song and yes it was so amazing that I cried! Love your channel, you react to many of my all time favorites!
We ladies love Kenny Rogers. At this point in time he was everything.
He has a long list of songs that are wonderful.
So this is going to sound weird.. but you need to listen to this song two more times, even if it is just for you. It's been around forever and there are three performances of it that take you through the emotions of the life of this song. You have watched the first. The second is Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie Lady. (It was for a tribute to Lionel and he and Kenny were great friends.) This version will make you smile and happy and is everything about these two. The third... is hard to find but if you can, it's Lionel's performance of Lady at the 2021 Grammy's after Kenny passed away. All three are poignant and beautiful and touch your heart in different ways. Great job.
Was fortunate to see him perform several times. No one like Kenny. Always a good show!
What you just said is how I feel about good country music. Our legends don't depend on technology, fireworks, and naked dancers all over the stage.....just them and their incredible voices.
Thank you for getting to this one. This is the one instance where I believe a live performance is so much better than the studio recording. I believe Kenny had a slight cold at the performance. That gave his voice a little bit of grit, that fit this song extremely well. Now, if you haven't already, I suggest that you should take the time to watch a video clip from a televised tribute to Lionel Richie. The clip is of Kenny recognizing Lionel for writing this song, and how it all came about. It's not something I think you should react to. It's just a funny story that I think you would enjoy. I'll grab the link to it, and be right back to add it. czcams.com/video/vc8IN-FnRic/video.html
The late Kenny Rogers was the best. He could belt out a song so easily. Love your reaction.
Goodness! He never lost that voice! NEVER! He did a collaboration with Home Free "Children Go Where I Send Thee" and good God Almighty, it was beautiful!!! His voice...just WOW!!!🤗❤
I was blessed to see him live in concert 4 times...with the Righteous Brothers, Dolly Parton x 2 and also Dotty West! He sounded exactly the same or better LIVE than on an album! I saw him in various cities in Florida. When I saw him sing Lady in concert the 1st time he was married to his wife Marianne. He played a film while he sang it of him and her and then her giving birth to their son Christopher!! Not a dry eye in the house!! However, when performed with Dolly was always my favorite! They were such good friends and had so much fun on stage...cracking jokes, etc. They were electric together on stage!!😘😍
I saw Kenny in Savannah, Georgia back when I was about 30 and I am 64 now his live performance was off the chain I remember when he first become famous when he was with the First Addition, kind of a Rock/Folk band. He was to me the greatest along with George Strait. You really need to listen to his Greatest hit..
Kenny Rogers is perfect rabbit whole to explore. That smooth raspy voice. You can't go wrong with him.
I am impressed by your reactions and comments to Kenny Rodgers "Lady"❤❤
Very good song.
I saw Kenny live in concert on Saturday, March 3, 1990, at the Florida Suncoast Dome in St. Petersburg, Florida. I was 17 and infatuated with Hard Rock bands like Guns n' Roses, Skid Row, Aerosmith, etc., but my aunt had free tickets so I went along. Funny thing is that I knew some of his songs from my mom playing the radio a lot at home but was still amazed at how many I could sing along with. Like you said, there was little fanfare or light show but he didn't need it. I ended up having a great time at that concert and enjoyed seeing my mom and aunt smiling through the entire concert. They knew all of his songs! Fast forward a few years and I was signed up for this program through Columbia House where they'd mail me lists of cds and I'd get a huge discount if I purchased some. One of the first batches of cds I ordered from them was Kenny's greatest hits which I now play in the car for my son's to enjoy his music. If they don't quite enjoy it now, someday they will.
He was a treasure for sure, and greatly missed.
Kenny was my first concert in 1977 I was 7. He's such a great artist/ actor! You can't go wrong with his music!
Still can't believe he's gone. He left us such a great gift in his music ♥️
I love Kenny so much! My dad and I would listen to him. I was lucky enough to see him in concert in his later years in Memphis. He was still amazing 😍 and this was my favorite song he sang. It was one of my top concert experiences.
Saw him in Augusta Maine in the 80's. what really surprised me was that he was so down to earth. My sister caught a tambourine that he threw into the audience. Powerful and beautiful singer.
Kenny had a great voice and a very charismatic personality!! I don’t know anyone who didn’t really fall in love with him!! It was a very genuine person! I enjoyed his collaborations with Dolly Parton or the years as well as home free!! Nice reaction!
First record my parents ever bought me when I was about 12 was Kenny Rogers & the First Edition, "I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In). 45 rpm record. Wore that thing out. That was when he was in a rock band before he crossed over to country.
I love Kenny! And this is my favorite song.
Do yourself a favor & find the performance he does of this song, with Lionel at a CMT awards show, not long before Kenny passed away. To see these men show their friendship & love, along with the gift of their voices, is a beautiful thing to see. Kenny has some great duets with Dolly Parton & a ton of his own hits.
I saw Kenny at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT in the mid-1990s. It was a spectacular concert, as all of his were. Whenever possible, he always performed "in the round" when playing in large theaters/arenas with the band in the center of the circular stage. He always said he had great luck with picking the right songs and his string of hits certainly proved that. It's great to see so many people re-discovering Kenny Rogers and his incredible talent.
Ahhhhh...Kenny. He could sing the alphabet and I would have loved 😍 💕 it. I had a crush on him since the early 70s when he sang with the First Edition. Anything he sang was gold..pure gold. He was handsome and talented.
We saw Kenny Rodgers at the state fair in the 80s. He was awesome! It was an awesome week of performers. Kenny Rodgers, Crystal Gayle, Eddie Rabbit and Bob Seger!
A favorite song.
Kenny was a wonderful entertainer, he had a lovely presence and didn't have to try to get every woman within earshot to crush on him. If you haven't already done so, please check out Kenny Rogers with Home Free's version of Children, Go Where I Send Thee.
I was at this concert with my mom at age 12- they were taping it for hbo and although they cut it, I gave him a rose onstage as soon as the song ended. I’ll never forget it and I’m 54 now!
This song was the first dance at every wedding for 10 years after it was made🐝🤗❤️
Wow ... your comment about seeing Kenny live. I got to see him as my 16th birthday and that is nearly 50 years ago. It was fantastic.. best ever Kenny songs, that apart from his top songs lady, gambler etc. The greatest, you decorated my life, she believes in me and Ruben james are a few more good ones of his.
OMGoodness!!! Amongst the top ten concerts I’ve ever attended. Yes, it was in 1981 and Kenny sang Lady. Lee Greenwood sang his timeless, “Proud to be an American.” My first intro to country music and I so loved it. So sorry I did not pursue it with a passion at that time but now I’m so addicted to all things country. Please listen to Kenny’s songs, “She believes in me” and “The Greatest.”
You should check out his song " Through the years". I sang this one at my grandparents 50th anniversary party back in the 80s.
I didn’t know you hadn’t heard this song before or I would have recommended it long ago. Such a great song! 💖💖💖
Saw him live aurora I’ll impose 2011. Was terrific sang songs showed videos of the gambler and his 2 5 year old twins was terrific
This is absolutely the best version of this one to watch. It’s been mentioned a couple times, but he an Lionel ended up being the best of friends. You need to find the video of the Lionel tribute where Kenny tells the story of how this was written, and then Lionel joins him to sing it. There’s another video where they’re just sitting on stools telling the story, but I like the one at the LR tribute.
Ahhhh Kenny! My mom, sisters and I all love him... what a voice!
Another one to check out by Kenny is "The Greatest" .Wonderful story. You will love it.
One of the best concerts I ever went to. I took my mom and it was just the perfect concert for that. Kenny was popular with all ages! It was at the University of Tennessee in the basketball center and it was done in the round. It was in the 80's and the opening act was Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers who were an excellent country group. An enjoyable evening I hated to have end.
You need to do a reaction to Kenny and Lionel singing the song together. It shows there close friendships.
I goofed earlier when I said Kenny Rogers sang with 5th Dimension. He sang with 1st Edition. The 60’s was a long time ago & my husband was in the US Marines during the Viet Nam era. My brain was full of other things back then (ha).
Besides being a Legend, he was one of the nicest men in the business. Supportive of all artists and beloved by all. RIP 🙏
I was lucky enough to catch Kenny in concert at the Hampton Coliseum, Hampton Virginia in the mid 80s. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen. He was so personable and entertaining. I'd been a fan since the Fifth Edition days. Thank you for this reaction.
I was there!
Kenny has always been one of my favorite , First professel concerts
Based on your reactions to this song, it is VERY obvious, dear man, that you were thinking of your "Lady". Such a sweet reaction. Thank you for for these videos. It's nice to see a reaction through "new eyes and ears".
HUGE hit for- geez, decades?! Back when dedications on ghe radio people called in- this song. Weddings- this song. Prom night fall in love- this song. Say your sorry- these lyrics- it crossed genres and it still just so real so deep.
You must see some of the duets he has done . My favorite is with Kim Carnes--Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer. She wrote the song.
I saw him perform this live almost 40 yrs.ago this become my and my son's fathers song
Love to nsee your reaction to this country duo. So many of the artists from the 70's & 80's are still performing and sound just as good as they were in their prime. Love these guys! Bellamy Brothers - Let Your Love Flow - Live @ Albisgüetli Zürich - 19.3.2011
Yes, please check out the Bellamy Brothers ..... they are fantastic!
Kenny and Lionel Richie sang this live together it was magical
My fiancé took me to a Kenny Rogers concert and it was amazing. His voice filled the arena and was so much more incredible in person. I have not heard a recording that did him justice.
Summer 1982. He opened with Love the World Away. I have heard quite a few singers and Kenny is the one who whose voice just blew me away in person.
I saw him in Spokane WA. He was singing in a casino there and it was fantastic. Something I will never forget.
I saw him live when our high-school took a trip to a show. It was in Oklahoma in 1970. It was amazing. He was with the first edition at the time.
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, until 1970 billed as The First Edition, were an American rock band. The band's style was difficult to singularly classify, as it incorporated elements of country, rock and psychedelic pop.[3] Its stalwart members were Kenny Rogers (lead vocals and bass guitar), Mickey Jones (drums and percussion) and Terry Williams (guitar and vocals). The band formed in 1967, with folk musician Mike Settle (guitar and backing vocals) and the operatically trained Thelma Camacho (lead vocals) completing the lineup.[citation needed]
I saw him once in Los Angeles in the '80s. Kim Carnes sang with him. We were on the third or fourth row and the opening act was Gallagher (a comedian who smashed watermelons with a sledgehammer).
Kenny Rogers was amazing.
Thank you for playing this. Kenny Rogers was a great and talented performer and actor. Please react to his song The Greatest. It is different from Lady but also one of my favorites of his.
I went to a Kenny Rogers concert in Chattanooga TN back in the early 80’s. He was the first performer at a new arena that had just been built. I’m not even sure he had recorded this song yet.
Through The Years is another beautiful song!
My wife of 35 years passed away 3 months ago. Put this song into that context, new meaning for me.
You really need to look up the video where he calls Lionel Ritchie up from the audience after telling the story of how LR came to finish writing this song in the bathroom! It’s hilarious. Watching 4-16-2024, Wittmann, AZ, USA 🇺🇸
This song along with Lionel Richie on a tribute concert is even more amazing.. ;)
Loved your reaction! The best description for Kenny is World Class! RIP Kenny! ❤❤❤
One of my favourite KR songs ❤️His voice is sublime.
I absolutely love Kenny Rogers. 1982 I had the pleasure of seeing him and Dolly Parton in Los Angeles. 😍 I was totally smitten with their chemistry.
We played this for our wedding. I walked down the aisle to this.
My 2nd ex-wife's favorite singer. He also did one of my favorite country songs, "The Gambler". I had an album as a kid of the New Christy Minstrels that Kenny was in before New Edition called Land of Giants. You could hear him stand out in some of the songs.
When it came out it was use for weddings and ,anniversaries . Lovely touching song.
Kenny Rodgers was a great actor as well, give the movie 6pack a watch!...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
Loved that movie! Lol
Miss you Kenny.
Thanks for this. Best wishes to you and yours.
I saw Kenny in Dallas back in the early 80s. He was wonderful!
Oh man! You have to check out Lionel and Kenny singing this. You can see the love they have for each other.
Kenny Rodgers brought the countrypolitan sound to country.
