History Maker - Yuri!!! on ICE OP [Piano]

I have finally watched Yuri!!! on ICE recently, I am simply amazed by the insanely good animation of the ice skating scenes. This anime is truly one of its kind and no wonder it took the Anime community by storm in 2016. And since we all are waiting for a second season, in the meanwhile I decided to make my own version of the Opening song: History Maker!
Similar to the Anime, I also imagined creating a "choreography" for the piano with its own unique elements. Influenced by the soundtrack [Yuri on Ice!!!], this piano arrangement features "sparkling elements" in the right hand and it is particularly audible in the bridge 01:43 and in the second chorus 02:42.
I have enhanced the introduction part to make it sound like the beginning of a waltz: the music starts with a single note in the bass and it's slowly building up its momentum until it finally reaches the goal in 00:18.
As a variation for the second verse, I introduced a secondary melody from 01:58 to 02:12. I had a lot of fun creating this "duet" melody because I can totally imagine Yuri and Victor ice skating together during this part (笑)
The Right Hand pattern in 02:13 is directly influenced by the strings playing in the original song and it was surprisingly difficult to play. It took me a long time to properly memorize this unique pattern.
And finally, the final chorus cumulates in a grand finale 03:38. Just imagine King J.J. finishing his choreography and then - with a smug smile- enjoying the roaring applause from the audience. Basically, it's J̶.̶J̶.̶ ̶S̶t̶y̶l̶e̶ Animenz style!

This cover is born to make history! Seriously, tho. Up until now, every cover of this song I've ever listened to were powerful... Overly powerful at times. But you really made the effort to the arrangement sound like an ice skating performance. I don't know if it makes sense at all, but I could really imagine a gracious ice skating performance as I saw your fingers dancing across the screen. I could imagine an audience cheering after the last spin, and stuffed animals being trown at the ice.
(I could also imagine this being played at some point at Yuri and Victor's wedding, lol)
I may not be a qualified musician, but even someone who's not classically trained can see how much you're improving in arrangements, and it inspires me so much it almost hurts, ugh.

I can imagine too now. Idk a thing about piano but every chord progression must represent a move in skating like the spins and every move are stated by the commentator combined by the loud cheers of the fans watching that continues until the final move in the end where cute things are raining in the whole rink. The judges final score is 100/100.

You playing this song holds a special place in my heart, because it represents the first time we met in person 3 years ago, the day before your 2017 Animenz Live Shanghai concert. I can still recall, imprinted crystal clear in my memory, the sound of you casually improvising variations to History Maker at Harmonic Studio, rehearsing for the big show the next day as the other piano bros and I listened along.
Arrangement Thoughts:
The thing that stood out most to me about this cover was the emphasis placed on the secondary melodies and voicing. Most notable moment for me in this regard was the piercing ascending "bell tones" at 1:03. High notes scattered throughout, especially the patterns at 1:43 and 2:14, feel like sparkling ice (this was written before reading your video description, i swear. Guess you did a good job of invoking your feelings through the music :) )
There was also more liberal use throughout of scale runs and arpeggiated ornaments compared to the last few uploads, and reminiscent of your older works. The cycling arpeggios (3:39) especially remind me of the ending of your *City of Eternity (Kyousougiga OST) cover from 2013* . Even the left hand progression sounds similar! That's one of my favorite and a quite underrated one of your older works.
Really loved this cover, especially the smooth, rolling, skating-like feeling that it invoked. Thank you as always for sharing!
Ah, I also remember! We met the first time at James Studio in Shanghai back then. Well, since I have more time now due to the corona quarantine, I am currently remaking all my live concert improvisation by adding all those small details I have missed out in the past. It is really fun revisiting old songs and re-imagining it! Thank you for you feedback as always!

I have a melodica but it’s too damn loud, annoying to use and because it’s a very cheap one it sounds horrible. So I don’t use it

The alternating arpeggios and scales in the left hand and right hand gave the song a more flowy feeling which it didn’t have before (I think it’s pretty fitting considering it’s an ice skating anime) and seriously this arrangement had so many awesome elements like the ascending octave run at 3:37 and the transition from that had amazing chords. Also the part at 3:12 was so SMOOTH the left hand was just awesome this whole arrangement was so nostalgic and I lgot chills from multiple parts. God tier as always ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I don't really know how much time it has passed, but, a friend of mine played this song on the piano for me, excited.
It was like:
"Hey! I remember you said you like Yuuri!!! On Ice?" He said.
"Yeah... Ahm... Why?" I replied.
No answer. Like 5 minutes later he uploaded a video of him playing the piano, this specific song, I, for the first time in all our friendship felt like, idk, I can't tell how it felt, but, indeed it was amazing.
He then played a few more songs, like the Pirates of the Caribbean OST.
He's not usually like this, and, oh boy... I liked it a lot, like a freaking lot, and that is not like me most of the time.
I don't really know why I'm telling this, he surely will read this and say "Hey, why did you do that?" Or "hey, stop it, now", but he learned a song that I like, to play it for me, and it's one of the best gifts he could've ever given to me.

he already is #1 as far as youtube is concerned imo. His structure, and variations of the melody are almost always true to the original and portray a sequence (like a story) like no other anime pianist. And to add on top of that he arranges amongst the most difficult of anime arrangements.
Every song/pieces with 3/4 time signatures are the best.

I remember Animenz played History Maker at his Sydney concert back in 2017- his arrangement has improved a lot, so glad to finally see it uploaded!
