Honest Mommercials: Do Pull-ups suck or are they better than diapers?

- If mom commercials could be honest, they’d still sell what they wanted to sell but we’d feel less silly upon realizing the truth. This Honest Mommercial tackles Pull-Ups.
Yes, some kids need diapers in larger sizes. Some only use them for overnight. But as far as a toilet training tool, nah. Pull-ups aren’t all they are cracked up to be.

Pull ups were the biggest scam.
I totally fell for it, and then was just like, this is bullpucky!! These are diapers, that literally teach nothing.
Just go training underwear, and wash some extra clothes.
Note: Obviously this advice does not pertain to every single kid. Don't come for me internet.
Fell for pull ups with my oldest. Then I learned. Extra clothes to wash makes potty training sooooo much easier
I Used training underwear with both of my kids. Yes it's more of a hassle but it actually works better than pull-ups and saves money.
As a veteran preschool teacher and potty trainer - I'd always tell my students parents to bring in diapers or whatever they had. There is NO sense in switching them to pull ups if you don't want to lol
As a fellow veteran teacher who has taught potty training, I agree. They are pointless. When I am blessed with a baby I won't be using pull ups when the time comes to potty train them.
With my first I thought pull ups were awesome, until we tried them and nothing changed!! With my second I got absorbant training underwear and she is catching this potty training thing on so much quicker! And theyre reusable of course
Exactly! Me too
Same!
I work in a nursery in the UK. Our mantra is "parents know best" but that's really hard to stand by when they say "we've started potty training them so we've brought pull ups" (we've also sent them in skinny tight fitting jeans and boots that take an age to take off and put back on)
Or you still dress them in multiple onsies, plus multiple pairs of pants (I think you guys call them trousers) and leggings. Like-dude-if you’re gonna start potty training, give them easier clothes to get in and out of!
As a preschool teacher, it irritated me when parents sent their kids in pullups to school when the kiddos were no where near being potty trained/training. Myself and my coteacher agreed it was a waste of money to get pullups until the kid was actively trying to be potty trained. They were a pain in the butt to change and are expensive as heck. Just use diapers until you can tell your kid is ready. When ready, try training pants. They feel like underwear and yes accidents will happen. But guess what, most of the time the kids hate the feeling AND THEY ARE WASHABLE.
I have a 2 year old, a 20 year old with disabilities, and my father who is 74 and has dementia, and all of them wear their own version of pull ups. The cost for pull ups, wipes, gloves, and pee pads is around $800 a month.
God bless you for taking care of them especially your father❤️
Not sure if youre American but if you are .. If your 20 yr old and father have heath insurance you can speak with their doctors and get them through prescription and they'll be covered almost or completely by the insurance company. You might have to pay a small copay but it should be alot less.
I’m sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine how much patience that takes.
woah can even imagine handling all that i struggle just with one in nappies.
They make adult diapers idk if they r cheeper than pullups tho
I'm a preschool teacher for very young kids (6 months to 2 years) and a mom of a 4 year old and I have a personal vendetta against pull-ups. We had this one kid whose mom would put her in tights, jeans, lace up shoes, and pull-ups. Changing her diaper was a personal hell. Pull-ups probably stunted my kid's potty training like crazy. They are a goddamned scam and I hate them.
Pull-Ups are great for mostly potty trained kids when you are going to be out for an extended time and for night time, but they're just a more expensive diaper.
Can confirm. The only thing mine got from the pull ups experience was that if he kept wearing them at age 4, his friends would make fun of him.
This gave me major Caitlin Doughty vibes for some reason and I'm super into it.
I ❤ LOVE CAITLIN, too!
As a preschool TA, I totally prefer the pull ups with the velcro over the actual underwear pull-up kind. It makes changes so much faster, especially when the kiddos are dressed in multiple layers of clothing, and are still really slow with dressing themselves.
Found your shorts a few weeks ago. As a mom of a two year old… thank you for your service lol! We’re not quite at the potty training phase, but will be soon! 😅
theres the o crap method which is super intense but very effective.
Sooo accurate! Everyone asked me why my son wasnt in pull ups yet, I said literally everything you said! Because they're more expensive, they take forever to put on because of the suck ass velcro, & they make him forever to go to the bathroom because he wants to get fully undressed! So I will be waiting until I think he is ready, & going straight to underwear like a friend suggested. She said its hard to train a child in diapers or pull ups because "they know they can pee in them" but most kids will not like peeing in underwear. When I switched him to underwear he did great! Its been about 4 months & no accidents! 👏 (I started telling him to tell me if he has to potty when he was about 2- 2 1/2, but waited til he was almost 3 btw to switch him to underwear if anyone is curious) he only wears a diaper at night.
You know what does help for girls? Sanitary pads in normal underwear. Catches a bit of the accident but too far departed from nappies to feel the same.
Although I do agree with this for younger kids this is not always the case for older children . My son is 7 . He's been dry daystimes since the age of 2 maybe a little younger . Night tines he still is not . He dad and both his dad's children were not dry at night until their teen years . After countless trips to the doctors and following doctors advice they have said he has an under developed hormone . Putting him in nappies really upsets him . He feels like a 'baby' I've explained to him he's not bla bla ,but I noticed it taking a huge toll . Since using pull ups he's alot more confident . He will now actually get up to pee (although still wets in his sleep) I found pull ups saved me a huge amount of time changing bedding every single day on a high sleeper is a nightmare . I've also found it's taken the 'shame' and embarrassment off him . He will come to me and explain his pull up is wet and make sure it's binned . He likes that they are 'older' characters on them . So whilst pull ups are more expensive and alot of hassle they absolutely do provide a nessacity for parents in my situation . I switched to them after being advised to limit drinks and caught my son drinking from the toilet .
Obviously I was beyond upset and felt incredibly guilty . The doctor suggested perhaps the pull up approach to help out an exhausted mum and to encourage him to pull his pants down and up just before bed but to also take the shame out of waking up wet .
Love your content it's very refreshing! Xx
Amen!!! Just pray they don't pee on something you like ... Wait... We don't have nice things anymore 😂.
They don't hold as much pee either and the poop goes out the butt or up the back even worse.
Watching this while feeding my 2 month old. I have a lot to look forward to... 😅😅😰
I highly recommend when the time comes switching to cloth diapers or cloth diapers like training pants it’ll let your little one learn and understand what it feels like to have an accident and keep the mess contained
Big thanks for the heads up! You rock!
I dont even have kids and this is hilarious 😅 the wig reminds me of that part in orange is the new black where Boo is pretending to be straight to scam the church people 🤣
We tried pull ups and I agree they are awful with the side velcro! We use the easy ups instead because they pull on like normal undiesand you can rip them off but they don't fall off.... my daughter is 2 now and I can't do normal diapers on her, she just won't lie down so we've done standing changes since she was 18 months and started doing all her poop in the toilet. Still working on pee and we use training undies with easyups at night.
I love that unicorn curtain!
Blessings to all!
I have a two month old now, can’t wait for this phase lol
FACTS… good looking out
I only put my child in pull ups because at 2 she made nappies look small and uncomfortable. Big babies😥
📌Look into EC everybody! (Elimination communication) there are ways to do modifications of it, we were pretty committed and our toddler was in undies at 18 months. Peed 95% in the potty since 2 weeks old and only had parts of a poop in her diaper on VERY rare occasions (she signaled stronger for when she needed to poop).
Life changing!
Hahaha! I love the short black bob on you such a vibe.
I agree with you fully
My kid only wears pull ups at night we went straight from diapers to big boy undies for day time when he can control it he somehow manages to alway take a diaper off in his sleep he says the tabs are uncomfortable so I can deal with slightly more expensive diapers when we only use 1-2 a day for nap and night
I don’t think so but I’m gonna 0:15
