    Hey y’all! I, and most others, are aware that the LX600 (and LX450, LX470, and LX570) have all been based on the flagship/heavy duty Land Cruiser, but they (along with the GX470, 460, and 550) aren’t mentioned here because we’re strictly talking about TOYOTA branded vehicles in our market that are not luxury segment vehicles and don’t cost in the $100,000 range.

    North American version of LC 300 is Lexus LX 600.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, but wasn’t included in here as it doesn’t carry the Toyota or Land Cruiser badge. Same way the LX450, LX470, LX570 and GX550 weren’t really mentioned here even tho they too are Land Cruisers underneath. Different (luxury) market segment.

    Thanks for this more global perspective, which we in the US often overlook.
    If I get the new “Land Cruiser” I’m definitely ordering a Prado badge from Europe / Asia and placing it under the LC badge. Will make it more genuine to what it is. 😎

  • @benny9075
    @benny9075 Před 3 měsíci +3

    It is quite confusing for you guys!!
    Here in Australia we’ve always had the 70 series. Although the price for a new one is genuinely not far off the upcoming Lexus GX (this is the truth!!).
    We’ve also had almost all generations of the Landcruiser Prado, but never the Lexus GX… until now. So we’ll get both of the upcoming Toyota and Lexus versions.
    Then we’ve always had all versions of the Landcruiser 200 and Lexus LX… and now the Landcruiser 300 and LX.
    The last 4Runner we had though I think was in the 90s, and we dont get the Sequoia.
    The Tundra is coming though. They’re going to import them as left hand drive and convert them to right hand drive once they’re here. There’s this new wave / appetitive for your full size ‘pickups’ here in Australia…

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci

      I didn’t realize the 70 series was that expensive! That would turn me off to it since I thought the whole point was to have an amazing but cost effective farm truck. That’s really annoying.
      And also that’s really interesting that you all are getting the new GX too. The only way they’ve justified having both Prado and GX here is one is a 4-cylinder (LC) and one is a V6 (GX). Is it the same way there? Or will both your Prado and GX get a V6? Or do you only get diesels?
      And I’ve heard and read about their tundra experiment!!! That’s so fascinating because I wonder if they’d ever bring a Sequoia since it’s literally identical to the Tundra in terms of the parts that they’re replacing in the conversion to RHD.

    • @benny9075
      @benny9075 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Historically… the way they’ve tended to differentiate them is by diesel (Toyota) vs petrol / gas (Lexus). So for the last 14 years, you could only get the Landcruiser Prado in a diesel. This will be the same with the new model, with the GX getting the Twin Turbo petrol V6. The interesting thing is (and was only reported in the media last week), is which one the hybrid goes into. With Australia introducing fuel economy standards on 1 Jan 2025, it hasn’t been confirmed what Toyota / Lexus are going to do.
      The 200 / 300 Series Landcruiser vs Lexus LX have been the same ie. 200 had a diesel / LX had the n/a V8. 300 Series had the diesel and the LX has the Twin Turbo V6.
      And regarding the Tundra… Toyota are last to market here in that class. The Silverado, Ram and F150 are all converted / sold the same way. Although in typical Toyota fashion, they’ve done it the most thorough way… and converted 200 vehicles and given them to dealers and potential customers to evaluate for 12 months. This will be the first time ever that they’re going to sell an ‘aftermarket’ converted vehicle… and they clearly want to get it right

    Thanks for the very clear and informative content. This bring the concept of whether or not chose Land Cruiseror premium package VS GX 550 base! Since here in Canada it’s gonna be 83 grand vs 86 grand for the GX!

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Personally the GX base doesn’t come with nearly enough for a Lexus or that price point. No memory seats, no KDSS, no upgraded audio, no moonroof, no fog lights, no 3rd zone climate control, and the list goes on. I’d take the LC with the premium package since it would have all of that.

      Hahaha!! Here I am! And oh, I know. There have been rumors about the Hilux and Tacoma converging again into a singular global model which would also allow Toyota to create a singular Fortuner/4Runner as well. The 4Runner teaser this morning makes me wonder if that’s going to happen since the badge looks like a total afterthought. Slap that on ours and F O R T U N E R on the global model, maybe?
      And hahaha I knowww it just sounds so crass to me to ask people to like and subscribe. I think if people want to they will but I’m not here to build a huge subscriber count, I love my solid group of core friends (like you!) who are here because they want to be! :)

    I was wondering if you had any experience with recent lexus es 350 and 300h? Was hoping to get more information on them and how the different drive trains compare in terms of comfort/feel

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci

      We actually own a Camry V6 which shares a platform and drivetrain with the ES350, and I love it. The ES350 and Camry use the legendary 2GR Toyota V6 which will be going away likely at the end of this year for the ES since the Camry is losing it this year too. The 300h is going to drive very similarly to any Rav4, Camry, Venza, NX, or RX hybrid since they all use the A25A I4+hybrid engine. Great for fuel economy but not nearly as enjoyable to drive as the V6. See my Camry video here: czcams.com/video/NQt55FjfNR4/video.htmlsi=qsDL6rmoFzHaaB-E

    What a great video!!! 😎😎😎 This video should be a mandatory watch for anyone living around me. It would've saved me numerous headaches over the past 6 months. lolol. 🤣 Out of curiosity Josh, what are your thoughts on the Sequoia? I want to love it, but I just can't for some reason. But now that you pointed out that it's really similar (spec wise) to the LC 300, I might have to revisit some of the latest reviews. :). Take care.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hahaha!!! You and me both! 😂 and thus why it’s up here now LOL! I feel exactly the same way you do about the Sequoia. It’s also just a bigger car than I would ever want to drive so that might be part of it too. I also feel like there should be a version of it that has full-time 4WD like the LX does, but maybe that’s intentional so you have to buy the LX600. 🙄

    Thanks for the informative video. What gets confusing is the overlap between Toyota and Lexus. I think Toyota should have created Land Cruiser division that retains larger V6 & V8 engines.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 2 měsíci

      I completely agree, there’s so much overlap now especially since the Lexus doesn’t feel like a luxury product.

  • @mercboy111
    @mercboy111 Před 3 měsíci

    Well said 👏👏👏
    Just to add, the LC300 also comes with a 3.3L twin turbo V6 diesel. In SEA and Australia that’s the only engine we get.
    Given the choice would you buy an LC300 or a Sequoia? 😊

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes!!! I also think the 300 still comes with the same 1GR V6 you have in your Prado and that I had in my 4Runner too, if I’m not mistaken. In some markets, anyway. Might be wrong but I know the 200-series had that as an option as well! Personally between those two, hypothetically if we could buy it here, I’d rather have the LC300 though given the price of the 250 Prado I’m sure it would be well over $100K USD, LOL. We get the LX600 which is an LC300 and that goes up to $130K USD.

    • @mercboy111
      @mercboy111 Před 3 měsíci

      @@joshjamescars it’s very expensive. I keep referencing one of your videos to friends whenever they have reliability concerns with their Toyotas. Corporate greed at its finest.

  • @Segu88
    @Segu88 Před 3 měsíci

    This is very helpful. Side note- if you were going to buy a luxury-ish, fuel efficient hybrid/phev- what would you buy? Always wanted the RX but I saw you video and that no longer seems like a good option 😅

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Great question! Personally I think the midsize SUV class struggles with efficiency because there’s no way to have a nice driving experience in a car that big with an engine small enough to be super efficient, so I’d forego a hybrid and get one with a V6 (QX80, MDX). OR, if you would rather have a hybrid and are willing to forego the smooth and powerful drive, I’d probably just get a Highlander Hybrid Platinum since the RX no longer feels more special! The last option is the RX450h+ PHEV, but at $75K MSRP (so $80-$85K out the door), that’s just such a steep price to pay for a midsize crossover with a Toyota-grade interior.

    Good review. Best one. Was deciding on Land-cruiser or the gx. Which would u go with.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před měsícem +1

      I think it depends on what you want. I think both are horrendously overpriced for what you get (to get mark Levinson on a GX you have to spend at least $77K). The Land Cruiser is slightly cheaper but the mid trim with the one options package is $70K. The GX has a more powerful engine but the V35A TT V6 has had a significant number of issues. The Land Cruiser’s 2.4 turbo seems more reliable but is slow AF (8-sec 0-60).

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před měsícem

      Totally. I also think the 5th gen 4Runner and GX460 are also the better long term investments. Proven reliability, under stressed engines. The problem with the V35A is that it’s been in the LS500 since 2017 and Toyota is still having issues with it.

  • @TheJoker-qn6vw
    @TheJoker-qn6vw Před 2 měsíci

    Hey, lovely video; if possible, could you do a comparison video between the 2023 GX460 and a slightly used 2021 LX 570? because at the current GX460 prices, some of us think we can get a well maintained LX 570 and it would be slightly better and more comfortable than the GX460.
    Some of us are not ready for the V6's, the V8 purr and smoothness is everything.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think it comes down to size. Both are great but an LX570 is bigger. I’d personally take the GX over the LX just because I don’t want or need the size of the LX. LX570s also have the hydraulic suspension as standard I believe, which I personally also don’t care for. The LX also has the older Toyota Entune system and thus never got CarPlay/Android Auto which the GX has. And with any 3-4 year old used car, it is ALL about how it was maintained. If the previous owner treated it like garbage, you inherit that. The GX460 is going to be either new or very, very lightly used.
