So, you have to sit there on the lake for an hour, and count how many times the warning light blinks?

He made a mistake there.It's actually 30-60 blinks per minute. If you look at it for 10 secs and it blinked 10 times you know its 60 per minute and you should get back to the marina. There are 17 posts that you can see from almost anywhere on the Great Lakes Trail.
