      Hey Kim, glad to know you have a chance to help people to avoid such suffering. It would be nice if you study trauma in detail. It's not just a phrase but a complex phenomena, a reason why the majority stick in domestic abuse. You can't just apply, you need to understand. Trauma healing should happen beforehand. During premarital counseling such patterns should be applied. Unfortunately most people don't get that kind of help. They first get into trouble only to learn later

    Hey Lynn it's a pleasure to listen to Idah, especially now that she's our heroine, she a representation of some of us who also walked out at a very young age. At your own time, I'd like to tell my story on your channel and encourage young women on the importance of moving out. I personally lost myself, my child taken away, suffered with depression and ended up in drugs. Being married to a cop character debeloped me real bad. I am doing better now and no longer depending on alcohol

    Idah's story is so enlightening and a great inspiration to many ladies who have been made to question their worth and are in toxic relationships. I pray that ladies find the courage to walk out of toxic relationships. And of course, having a great support system like Idah's is the best blessing in life.

    Hey Idah, I hear you. It's not only the church. You remind me of some Imam when I wanted to walk out of the abusive relationship. The hypocrisy in this society is sickening. I also walked out&left everything that I had bought,left the country for 3 months. No amount of material things can amount to life. You will be healed, though the scars can never be erased deep within. I'm really happy for you Idah, we missed you in mother in law. True, if someone yells at me, points a finger in my face, use insulting language, is controlling, I literally run.. Thanks Lynn for giving Idah a platform to share her story. Idah thanks for the courage to come out

It's weird how someone can beat you up to a point of death and tomorrow is like nothing happened and still reminds you are a bride and wife to be and family is looking forward to the date! Manipulation.... in the eyes of other his an angel but in the house you can not explain who you live with....

    My sister went through something like that, years of emotional abuse and months of physical abuse. She has two boys, when she decided to leave, her life changed. First thing I noticed was how shocked she was by her support system, especially our mum. Our mum is a single mum as well and she never knew what my sister was going through, but the minute she did, she was so supportive. I don’t know what my sister was expecting, but the support surprised her. As Africans, we shy away from emotional conversations, even telling family we love them and we'll be there for them no matter what. I think this needs to change. This may be why people go through hell for years, all alone.

    • @nekesamapesa
      @nekesamapesa Před 2 lety +14

      We shy away and sometimes it's because not everyone will be understanding and supportive. In my case I was the talk of the family. Most of my relatives would see me and give me that disapproving look, talk about me without regard for my feelings and the fact that I had turned to alcohol was their only focus. No one wanted anything to do with me even after all the support I had accorded them through the years. My aunts would tell their grown up children not to hang out or talk to me cos nitawafunza tabia mbaya ( meaning watakua alcoholic kama mimi) . All in all God healed me and now I am happily single, healthy and wiser.

    We often think that toxic/ abusive people come looking really evil and bad. But in reality, they come well-dressed, well-learned/successful, they come as the pastors, they come the silent humble ladies or men etc. We need to learn what toxic traits look like so that we are able to identify and assess toxic people/situations when they are being toxic. My heart goes to Alisha and everyone who has undergone (or is still undergoing) narcissistic abuse. I pray we all heal :) Thanks to Lynn and everyone you interview. You are creating a ripple effect. By impacting one person who will impact another, change is found and people's lives are canged.

    I remember 8 years back I was with a man who worked so hard to see me dead be would beat me up like I was a thieve and at the same time take care of me...I too turned to alcohol and became a full blown alcoholic and after very many incidents and struggles I was literally taken out of that house. Skip forward to last year when he found me again and was apologetic (did a good job of acting with tears and all) then proceeded to declare that he had realised I was his soulmate...I feel that I let God down by trying to consider that maybe he had changed and grown up..luckily before I could go back to him he told me a story about how his wife (the one he used to beat me about) was a bad woman and he would bad mouth her. That's when God asked me ' Nekesa do you remember all the shame, tears and pain you used ask me to take away from you! And now you want to cheat yourself that this guy is sorry!" That's when I woke up.Been single 6 years now and I have learned so much on what isn't acceptable in any relationship.
