Excellent restoration! Always good to see one of the "round tanks" brought back to life ! A little TLC and the great, great grandkids will still using it! Kudos on an awesome video!
Cool! I would love to find an old three burner white gas model. I currently have a three burner propane that has served me well for about 20 years. It’s nice when making breakfast to have coffee, grits and bacon/eggs cooking at the same time. Just curious, what month is your stove? I was born in 71.
@@John-Sherwood-W4JFS I was told it was a 1971 but after inspecting it, I did not find any imprints that state a month and date. I plan on taking it apart on Sunday for a cleaning. I do know I need all new gaskets for the pump and fuel cap. Also, plan to work on the surface rust. It's going to be fun. I am like you. I like using vintage stuff. I also picked up a model 530 that needs love too. I'm also into the vintage cook sets too. I have taken enough of your time. Again thank you for responding and for making cool videos. Have a great weekend.
Thanks very much! Its gonna be fun using it at camp this year and future camps. I hope it grabs a lot of attention and conversation for me. Thanks for watching another video!
Yes! When my friend gave it to me, I was surprised just how old it was. It will be a nice conversation piece at the campgrounds I visit. Thanks for watching my video!
Hey John. I just picked one of these up for $10! Still had gas in the tank. A few pumps, and both burners lit up and burn well. Needs a bit of cleaning, but all in all it seems to run just fine,
Very nice! I used mine again this weekend at camp. It's an attention getter from people that visit. I got another comment on Saturday about it. If you repaint the tank, I would used fuel resistant paint. My tank paint job looks worse now because fuel spills while filling messes the paint up I used
@@John-Sherwood-W4JFS thanks for the tip. As for now, I plan on keeping ia original as I can. It's in very good shape. I did do a very short video showing it.
@@CheezeheadChris Sounds good. I will check out your video very soon. I haven’t been YouTubing much lately with my schedule. But not school is ending for the summer and I plan to do some more fun stuff. Catch you later.
I just picked up a 425 stove with a round tank from a thrift store. From doing some research it looks like it is the 1st edition of the 425 and was made from 1948 - 1953. It is in really good condition. I have to see if it still runs.
Hi John, that’s a beautiful restoration job you did! I might be able to help you on one thing - I have an old un-restorable 413D that I bought years ago as a parts stove. It does have the legs (a bit rusty but functional) and I would be happy to just give you one. Let me know if you are interested. Respect your work as a Royal Ranger leader, spent 20+ years doing that myself. God bless from Joplin MO.
Hi John I’m now revisiting your older videos. I was wondering, being a Brit who’s never been to Florida. When your kayaking and fishing with a camp near the water, do you get Alligators being curious? And do you need to be alert to them? Especially in the night… Thanks Paul
The gators for the most part keep their distance. I have never been close to being attacked and I have lived here all my life so far swimming, boating and fishing in our waters. They are curious creatures that can be a nuisance when fishing because their presence can keep fish away. The most dangerous ones are ones that are being feed by misinformed humans and those large gators that are in mating/nesting season. I keep my distance during those times. The things that could be in danger are small dogs and small children when near the water’s edge. But this occurrence is rare.
So far your doing a beautiful job on that thing. Cant wait to see you use it. I have a question. I just got 2 WW2 US mess kits. One is dated 1941 and one 1944. The 1941 model appears to be aluminum(not sure) and has a handle like the WW1 models do. Was this the case until WW2 started and then they went to steel? It was a very lucky find as it also included WW2 utensils that look like the period of WW2 ones. All were in great shape with no dents or anything. Thanks for your videos I always learn from them. God bless
There was a US mess kit that was produced for a short time between the WW1 mess kit and the common WW2 kit. Check out page 34 of this pdf document: history.army.mil/html/museums/messkits/Field_Mess_Gear(upd_Jul09).pdf
Nice job! How does it work? I just scored one today, $20, 413d. It still works pretty good… I’m gonna go through and clean it up. How big of blue flame should I have? My flame isn’t huge but it’s boiling water!
If you have a blue flame, your stove is burning well. If you think the output is low, try giving it a few pumps. It might help the output if it is truly low.
How did you get the fuel pressure pump out? I have the same stove and I need to replace the pump leather but I cannot figure out to get the pump apart. Took out the retaining ring but the plunger will not pull out....does it turn?
Nice stove-My favorite for camping!!!!!!!!!!
Nice stove!

John whenever you bring an old Coleman back to life , you'll eat well for years 😀
Nicely done John!!!! It’s ready for the SPAM ‘n Eggs now! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Chris! SPAM and eggs sounds pretty good right now. Thanks for watching!
John, you are an inspiration. Just picked up a 1971 3 burner that I plan on restoring. Thanks for sharing.

EXCELLENT !!
nice job
Cool find. Great restoration.
It’ll last a lifetime. I’ve got the exact same model. I got it still in original box, I use it but keep it very nice.
That's an oldie for sure

This is the type of content I want. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Hope you cook with vintage gear.
Excellent job
Thanks! It was fun to do.
That turned out really nice. Great job !!!!
Thanks man! It was a lot of fun. I’m taking it to camp on Thanksgiving weekend to see how it does.
Wow that stove was in a pretty ruff state but you really cleaned it up nice. Great job on the restoration
Thanks very much. It was a fun project!
Now I have to look at our stove, I'm sure it is either the same model or very close to that one, they look identical. Great job, it looks new again.
Man! That would be cool if you have the round tank style! Let me know when you find out.
I just found 2 of these at the junkyard. Less than $6, I grabbed a couple things
Nice! Get them working and post a video for us!

John, Wow That stove looks Great, we’re you able to fabricate the missing leg?
Thanks! Not yet but I have a person I will talk to about getting material to make a leg. Hopefully it all works out.
