Ripper video. I’ve been working on these for years and never had one fail yet. Great description of operation.

Legend! I've been trying to find info on how this system works. The key moment for me was the difference between the petrol and the diesel systems. Now that I understand the system I can spend the weekend fault finding :)

That's a great description - I've looked for info for months about how this works ... drove a 120 series diesel Perth to Melbourne while this was going on... couldn't comprehend why we were running out of fuel on half a tank, then not able to refill without fuel gushing out everywhere. We found out on route that the main tank apparently breaths through the rear tank which caused the airlock... ended up having to fill very very slowly (approx 20 min.) and run only main tank. Vehicle went into Toyata dealership in melbourne - they replaced the pump but it still ran out at half tank full. Guessing the electric pump only was changed without cleaning the jet thing.... how can that be? cheers for that... know what to do now.

I think this is whats wrong with my 2016 prado. When i get down to half a tank on my guage the fuel warning light comes on. I first thouth it was the water trap on the fuel filter but have replaced both filters to no avail. I just brought the vehicle off a dealership and the problem started just after the 3 month stat warranty ran out. Its got 100k kms on it and seems to be well looked after. Am pretty disappointed as i thought buying a prado would be a step up.

I have the same model prado with what i suspect to be this exact problem. What would be a fair price to expect to pay for this the get diagnosed and replaced? Cheers

Does the transfer pump just run all the time or does it sense when the sub tank is empty and shut itself off?

Should run all the time as it filters the fuel, the tanks should drain at a similar rate, and as with any venturi drain it'll only work until there's nothing left to siphon.
