I am interested in doing this modification to my truck but I want to see more data. Do you think that there will be Cat or any other aftermarket filters available to fit on this system later on?
There is a CAT filter that is able to be used! There are a number of other filters that would be able to be used, just use a cross reference and anything replacing those donaldson part numbers should fit so you can run your preferred fuel filter brand.
PS the Donaldson filters leak. They switched to Baldwin. My Donaldson filters sprayed fuel so I sourced to local Napa PN filters and they are so far doing great.
The donaldson filters need to be tightened with a filter wrench. The baldwins have a better seal.
Correct. They do not seat well.
I have a kit I ordered last summer which includes the Donaldson filters. Should I switch to Baldwin or comparable Napa filters?
We ran the Donaldson filters and they were fine on this truck, just need to be tightened a little extra. Nothing wrong with the filters themselves but if you don't want to worry about that it would be easy and cheap enough to grab a new set of filters.
I just installed this yesterday and broke one of the blue fuel line snaps. Any idea what the GM part number is so I can replace it?
GM does not sell those separately, Dorman Part# 800-040 should work for you.
if it exceeds factory flow, will the mpg go down?
No, any fuel that is unused will be returned to the tank. This is ensuring that it does not present any restrictions in the system causing unnecessary wear.
What type of grease is being used on the gaskets?
We use assembly goo but clean diesel fuel works as well!
You make a bold claim that under heavy load, the filter can come apart and get into the fuel system. Do you have any data or reports to support that? This is the first I’ve heard about it. If true, that’s serious. Please elaborate?
Yes, Tom at VSE had this happen to his truck, and he had to do a catastrophic failure fuel system replacement due to the inadequate factory filter. I am sure Tom would be happy to share the exact details with you if you reach out to VSE directly.
@@Dmaxstore ok but color me suspicious. The guy who sells the $600 filter system had the problem. But in any case I would like to hear the details and circumstances.
@@hammer-r You won't hear back from them. You should however replace the plastic filter cover with a metal/ aluminum one. As you will eventually round off the nut made onto the factory plastic one. Then run the K&N filter. Change it every 15k miles. Im overboard, I change my fuel filter every oil change (5k Miles). I am at 130k on my lzo never had a fuel issue. I do also put a diesel fuel additive in at every fill up.
@@sethlover6498 Tks for the heads up and the suggestions, yea by all means I want to avoid fuel system issues. Tks again.
Will it void factory warranty?
While there is no reason that this would void the warranty, we all know that some dealers don't allow any aftermarket parts to be installed or they will try to void the warranty but according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, they are supposed to prove that the product you installed caused the concern.
