This raw footage from July 16, 1969 shows the Apollo 11 lunar landing, shot on film, as well as TV footage (starting at 5:37) of astronaut Neil Armstrong on the moon.
Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Thanks PeriscopeFilm! I was 15 months old and remember my Grandpa coming home with a brand new 19" Panasonic B/W Solid State TV and watching the moon landing with the family and neighbors 55 years ago. He even recorded the audio on cassette tapes, which I played over and over until they wore out. Unfortunately, they were "Red Oxide" tapes and did not survive. But fortunately, we have people digitizing film media like Periscope. I did salvage a box of NASA footage in the 90's for UCSD-TV that was recorded on 3/4" (probably a copy) from Mercury / Gemini, Apollo and the early testing of the Space Shuttle programs.

I actually have a Super 8 film similar to this which I recorded in 1969 off my TV screen. It has some captions added by the network over the live feed. I kept it all these years not knowing what I was going to do with it, but it has been fun having it. I don't think it would have any particular value.
