Honoring Jacques Delors: A Visionary Leader and Architect of the

Jacques Delors forged his vision of a united Europe. He was an ardent advocate of post-war European integration and architect of the European Union we know today. He served as President of the European Commission for three terms, from January 1985 until the end of 1994 - a period marked by a deep commitment to freedom, social justice and solidarity - values now rooted in our Union.
Jacques Delors played a key role in moving forward the European Union project during his tenure as President of the European Commission. His accomplishments include the establishment of the single market, the Erasmus program, the Maastricht Treaty, and the Economic and Monetary Union.
On January 31, 2024, the European Commission pays tribute to Jacques Delors in a ceremony taking place at the Commission’s headquarters in Brussels.
