  • What does it take to run a successful 50K ultra trail race? In this video, I talk about how training, gear, nutrition, and attitude will help you find success leading up to and during a 50K ultra trail race. I also talk briefly about the gear that I'm planning to use for my up-and-coming Red Feathers Trail Jamboree 50K race including my trail shoes, hydration vest, nutrition products, hydration, and more! What 50K has been your most difficult race to-date? What 50K are you planning/hoping to run next?

    I dove in the deep end, going from couch to 50k in 8 months. In my first year of doing ultras, i attempted the Jay Peak 50k. It's up and down a mountain 3 times, with mountain scrambling, steep loose gravel, etc. I hadn't trained quite enough for it, and decided to drop after 22 miles to go hit the Ramen hut and the resort's lazy river with my ever patient and supportive husband. 😂 Lesson learned... pay attention to the course description, and the scarier it is, the better your training needs to be! 😂

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Před rokem +1

      I think for a lot of runners, 50k feels like an ultra distance but also feels attainable. You can comprehend it. 50 miles and up might seem overwhelming or daunting to many runners. At least, it's hard to comprehend running longer ultra distances until you 've done it. I'm still trying to get my head around 100 miles. Haha! Thanks for the comment and great feedback!

    Hi chad, great video. Do you recommend a specific training long run distance prior to a 50k. I am doing a 58k and completed two 30k training runs. Wondering if i should go further

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Před rokem +2

      Incorporating 30k or approximately 20 mile runs as part of your weekly running regiment will set you up well for 50k success from a training perspective. The more consistent you are with those long runs week over week, the better trained you'll be. Of course, you want to do other types of runs between long, and exercises to keep yourself healthy, fit, and strong. Those long runs are a also great time to test nutrition and hydration. Good luck at your 58k race!

    Hey! Super late comment. A really special question if i can ask, how do you build discipline to train consistently. Big issue i have with running at the momment.

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching the video and commenting. That's a really great question! Three things that I would suggest...
      1) Determine your why. Figure out what will help keep you motivated (understanding that discipline is more important than motivation because you won't always be motivated to train). Races are a great reason to train but are very extrinsic. Try to find an intrinsic reason to train and that will help develop a reason for consistency.
      2) Schedule and set aside time to train each day/week. Put a reminder on your watch or phone or put in the calendar, and plan it out for the week. It will help create discipline to know exactly when and for how long you'll be training tomorrow, the next day, on the weekend, and so on.
      3) Offer yourself some forgiveness if things don't go to plan but readjust your plan if necessary, and try to stick to it simply moving forward. Don't worry about the past. Just worry where you're at right now and move forward.
      Hope this helps!

  • @evansilva9451
    @evansilva9451 Před 7 měsíci

    What is your training schedule? How many miles are you doing a week to prepare for a 50k? How long are your short run and your long runs?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I like to run 5 to 6 days a week. Short runs will vary, but will be between 5 and 10 miles, with a standard long run once a week at 16 to 20+ miles. On a good week, I'll run 50-70 miles. I prefer running on the trails but for convenience, many of my runs will be on the road. Hope this helps.
