    this is my experience with my GTR-- it cost me about $4,600 to get 700hp from Speed By Design, the SBD700 kit they sell.. I rebuilt my Trans (shep) for $4,000 to handle 800+whp/700whp Tq. .. PURE turbos sell upgraded turbos for $3500 and you don't need to upgrade anything if you are already FBO.. and that gets you 800whp E85 .. So for a grand total of $12k(ish) you have a reliable AF 800whp GTR.. that's not bad!.. but yes for 1000whp, will most likely build the engine. Everyone's builds are different, but that's where I stand as of now. I hope that helps someone looking to build a GTR for 800whp :)

  • @Superdimensional
    @Superdimensional Před 3 lety +23

    I spent $4600 in parts by SBD (Speed By Design) intakes, down pipes, mid pipes, injectors, fuel pumps, ecutek and e85 controller. 700hp, 650tq. NOT $10,000... not unreliable and not “poor quality”. But yes this doesn’t include labor, this is assuming you’re putting it all on yourself.

    Thanks man for the shout out, greatly appreciated! You did a nice job covering everything, seems like you got your ducks in a row. Keep up the good work, it is a learning process everyday for me with this car. Doug Ross was my tuner and unfortunately he passed away 2 days after I was hanging out with him. The tune is what really brings personality to this car... mods are mods, and yes you are right do not cheap out on the parts, avoid amazon at all costs! but then again I spent $1600 on a custom stainless steel 4” v-band Racing exhaust (everything deleted) and it seeded just fine with my catless AMS DP, works great. If I can provide any advice... keep all your OEM parts!! I cannot stress enough how much you will need to keep these parts in case something fails and you need to bring it to the dealership. Also keep a close eye on your bolts... the 12mm bolts for the diffuser for example are $9 a piece plus shipping!
    But if you are every in NY westchester area come through, I am sure we can go hours talking about this car.

Rodbearing changed, Brakediscs changed, new tires and wheels, new steering wheel, shifter, exhaust....You can say I respected that car, like a family member.

    It's definitely not cheap, and the more you put into it, the harder it will break. Most track guys are just buying a used 09-11 and use the extra money on building it. But they can't ever replace the performance when they move on. They just end up with louder cars.

    Thanks for sharing, I’ve kinda seen some of the GTR weakness when trying to add power and finding out you need blank checks to get it where you would want it… I wonder if a GTR would keep up with a m3 comp x drive $ for $ in mods. Hi Lex is it possible to just change the mid pipe , maybe do intakes and a stage 1 or 2 tune. Will that get you to 600 hp? If you leave the exhaust ( it is titanium) now you can keep your exhaust switch. Your thoughts? Phil

    • @LextasyNation
      @LextasyNation  Před 4 lety

      Hey Philip, no because you have to go with a bigger exhaust size to allow extra flow especially with bigger intakes. You can’t do intakes without injectors and midpipe. There is companies out there that offer a delete kit for the valve so it won’t throw it into limp mode.

    • @jonhblock
      @jonhblock Před 3 lety

      You just get injector dynamics 1000cc , then AMS downpipes , Cobb big sf intake , Cobb accessport , DW fuel pumps , then you can do custom tune with Ben Linney that I remotely did my self and you go up to 590-600 whp , that’s all on pump gas , I had my car like that for 5 years and I never had no issues with nothing!!

  • @Logicilly
    @Logicilly Před 2 lety +2

    FBO on a gtr can get you up too 800hp and up too 650 torque. Torque is what matters on the GTR , about 650 torque is a limit if you don’t want to upgrade the engine. Other wise you will have to rebuild that and the transmission if you think you want to make more torque. For the price he said was kinda ridiculous and at the same time not, because if for what ever reason you blow your transmission, it used to be $30,000 from Nissan. They have now dropped the price to $10,000 for a new trans. You buy a car that comes factory $70,000+ you better be ready for the big bills that come with it.

    • @brentayres12
      @brentayres12 Před rokem

      Stock turbos can’t push enough airflow to even break 700whp on e85. 700+whp will require upgraded turbos.

  • @ie9284
    @ie9284 Před 3 lety +1

    Seems like Nissan didn't plan ahead for upgrades.i mean the mk4 supra trans was good for like 1200 hp and the stock motor was good for like 800hp. They really over built those supras.

  • @brentayres12
    @brentayres12 Před rokem +1

    Definitely right on the “you better have some money set back for repairs”. Specifically for the trans.
    I just had my transmission pressure sensor go out. Just to replace that stupid $200 parts it’s $1250 to drop and replace trans. But while it was out I went ahead and had the trans built with new seals and forged baskets. $4000 total (parts and labor) so not bad at all. Clutches have been known to hold over 800whp so I should be good for upgraded turbos in the future now.
    And I can finally launch the car while fbo/flex fuel tuned and not worry about it exploding lol

    I have an anniversary edition Supra Turbo and I was going to sell it for a GTR and after doing a lot of research on them I just don’t know if that would be a good move. The Supra is just so damn reliable with no issues ever and the thought of dropping tens of thousands on transmissions and (unlikely) engine failures is so foreign to me that it would probably ruin the experience for me. I think I’ll just keep the Supra but if I decided to move to the GTR would a good setup be just stock engine and a stage 2 Sheps(or jacks)??

What I mean by this is no matter how you look at it you're still paying over 100k for a V6 nissan that takes a lot of work to build. 6:52 This is not entirely true. Nothing wrong with 2009's. I wish people would stop spreading misinformation perpetuating the myth of the 2009 GT-R. Only the very early 2008-2009's with LC1 that were BEAT on and launched hard dozens of times in a row broke the trans as LC1 had a very hard launch at 4,500 rpms. It would wheel hop and it could break. Nissan quickly fixed the issue with LC2 on the 2009 and 2010. Then released LC3+ after which refined the Launch Control. You can flash LC4/5 on all Nissan GT-R's even the 2009.

    My GTR is a 1400 horsepower swites are built built car that I never converted to 85 so I'm running about a 1000 horsepower pump gas I'm pumped gas but I just don't feel it necessary to Siri to do all the things I have to do to get to the 1400 horsepower saying that you you really when you upgrade these cars at the engine you have to upgrade the transmission and all 4 corners of the car Because you can't run the car with the same brakes that came with it you need a suspension system and you definitely need when you get up to a 1000 horsepower or better you better put a stage 3 race transmission in the car And that can be done in Massillon Ohio By S HEP Transmission. I erase my car all over the place but never go to the drag strip and launch it I have never had any trouble si need trouble since ship put that transmission in and I race everyday somewhere and and just never have a problem... Just so you know if you're gonna run around launching this car all over the place you will always have it's always half problems of some kind that is the most stupid thing you can do to AGTR is constantly launching it all over the place. The car is fast enough it doesn't need to be launched when you nail it in 2nd gear just hang on and shift it and it'll take care of whatever you're trying to do

      That's the mistake most people make is getting a car to 1000hp and forgetting how many supporting mods have to be done to make that 1k hp actually reliable.

      @@LextasyNation Thanks for your comment the other thing that's really a problem when it comes to GTRs is that there are a lot of guys out there that proclaim themselves to be mechanics but I'm gonna tell you that there are a 1/2 a handful of people that actually know what they're doing on AGTR.. I believe that 75% of these guys really aren't qualified to do anything at all on an on AGTR. And the guys that by them and thinks that they can do their own mods generally wind up screwing up the car anyhow If you don't have the money please don't misunderstand me I'm talking about you have to have money to burn when you buy these kind of cars when you have to finance a car you don't have the money You need liquid capital to put into these cars and then you just have to have enough money to back that up so that when something happens it isn't a problem to get it fixed. I can honestly say that a guy that has been a transmission builder for Chevy's Ford's Chrysler's what have you for for his entire life say 3040 years of working on transmissions would have no clue what to do on a Nissan GTR transmission. That also goes for the motor a lot of these mechanics look at that and think they can work on them I'm just telling you they can't. When you want it done right you need to go to someone like AMS in Chicago cicio the guys in Texas there's a few guys I believe around Pennsylvania but my godman I got man they're debts taken a real risk when you just give it to any mechanic or try it yourself you're not qualified so forget about it do it right or don't do it because you because you will pay the price.

    i’m about to look at a 2016 with an alpha 7 kit from AMS on it tomorrow and 32k miles. should i be worried about the trans?

      As long as the torque has been kept below 630-650 on the stock trans than you’re fine.

    What’s point of buying a gtr then if it has all these issues?
    And also if you just rebuild the transmission you will be able to tune it/modify it without issues?

    • @LextasyNation
      @LextasyNation  Před 3 lety

      GTR is a flex car. It’s different and super fun and reliable when stock. There is different stages of transmission builds you can do depending on your power level. There is always issues with built cars
