The idea you present in the opening reminds me of a famous quote from Greg Lemond that applies equally as well to running as it does to cycling: "it never gets easier, you just get faster". To me, this is one of the primary reasons endurance sports allow people of all abilities to connect over their sport, because the experiences are consistent despite varying abilities. The key to using this as motivation as opposed to letting it get you down is to recognize and appreciate the continuous small daily efforts that got you to where you are from where you were. Great story that exemplifies this experience!

I relate to that so much. Im studying mechanical engineering and back in school I just wasnt used to have to learn for anything or not understanding stuff first try. Well that changed now and being challenged that way mostly makes me feel frustrated
Truth. If there's anything in this life you want, you gotta be willing to work for it. That one took me a long time to learn or accept maybe.

Great video. I think most adults fall into this category as it relates to their careers and/or hobbies. You get comfortable, and the easiness of what you already know beats the adversity of doing something MORE. You should push the envelope with this documentary format of attacking goals, set the bar high AF - like completing the tour divide or something absolutely bonkers like that.

as it sits I'm 45 and still suck at Manuals. but I've schooled some guys who can manual all day riding the bowl or running singletrack or any XC riding.
Not stupid at all. I think as us young fellas get older, get busy and being okay with contentment, the drive to do better goes away. "We've made it this far, so why try harder?" Is a question that pops into our mind.
Eventually, like yourself, a turning point happens and we want to stay young, but it is still difficult. Long story short: have fun, try hard and become wiser.
