13:12 I love this part because this is one of the only times Alastor isn't joking or threatening or being violent to communicate, he's being genuinely serious, and the fact that that's so rare really shows how much he cares about the hotel.

Nothing in the shows points to Alastor actually being commited to the project, everything seems to suggest he has a further interest/contractual obligation to getting close to Charlie. In other words, she's meddling with his plans, that's a no no. But I don't think he actually cares that much about the goal of the Hotel.

You know, im not completelly sure thats the same tower that was in the hotel? When Alastor goes there it just dosent seems like the same place, and there is jungle-like vegetation all over the tower, and even trough the floor, as if it was there for a while. Not to mention ALL those eyes that are all over the place. I think it might be the tower Alastor used before dissapearing 7 years before.

As others have noted before me, he loves being the center of attention. When someone plays him off or is able to take the spotlight away, atleast without his permission, it rankles his ego. It hits even worse when it’s someone like Lucifer, who easily can punch above Alastor’s class. Thus Alastor goes after what he can to get back, in Lucifer’s case that being poking at the fact Alastor has/had a better relationship with Charlie then Lucifer did

Such an underrated moment.
"Alastor, altruist died for his friends..." the look on his face when he sings this line-- like he *actually cared* and it left him open to being hurt himself (or at least, involving himself in a conflict he'd otherwise had stayed out of) and now that part of him has to "die" if he wants a way out of his own deal, and he kinda hates himself for it is so heart-wrenching. He might be an unhinged, petty, monster but in some way being at the hotel had started to work on him, just a teeny, tiny little bit. And like, the whole fight with Adam where he knows he's not landing a *single* hit, something inside him must have started to panic, not just for himself but the others.
He didn't miss a beat with Adam until his microphone-cane got cut. Like a cat playing with their food.
Yeah... No.
Alastor is here for himself.
He has his own plans, but for that he needs the hotel and more importantly he needs Charlie.
He wants and open war with Heaven, and for that he knows he needs the naive optimism of Charlie, aswell as what the Hotel symbolise ( a promise of an alternative to the current status quo ) to mobilise Hell's inhabitants into this war.
The reason why I love so much the "Are you Ready for this" song is that it perfectly shows how and why he uses Charlie : Her optimism and good will cater to the crowd, and he just had to insert that tiny bit of bloodlust to turn hellspawns into fanatics ready to fight against angels.
And also I think quite a clever reminder of the power of radio that managed to, at the time it was *THE* dominant mass media, raise and mobilise the masses to the 2 world war.
For what end goal, it's difficult to say for now but, definitely, it's for Alastor own benefits and nobody else.

Alastor is definately based off an old school Wendigo not just a deer.

They know about the similarities, but he wasn't made based on wendigos. They were aware of the lore and the fact he definitely has themes of it, but he's not made based on one.
My favorite thing about Alastor is how he plays with perceptions of power. Through much of Hell's view, power is based on what you can smash up. Alastor certainly has that, so many view him as powerful. Charlie doesn't have that, so she isn't viewed as powerful herself.
However, the perceptive in Hell know that Alastor's pure strength isn't what makes him powerful, but rather his cunning and deal-making. His most fascinating trait is that he DOES have the thing that the rank and file mistake for power, but also other traits that are truly powerful.
Similarly, he recognizes in Charlie that her charisma and leadership give her vastly powerful reach, a trait that few in Hell truly perceive. She isn't considered powerful in the traditional sense, but Alastor sees true power in the reach she can command.
It's the dichotomy between Alastor's nominal power and the actual understanding of where true power lies that makes him such a compelling character.
Technically lore-wise, in absolute terms Charlie is several magnitude stronger than Alastor purely by the fact that she's the daughter of Lucifer. Alastor that's an Overlord is hierarchical wise several tiers below Charlie (There's the other Seven Dealy Sins and the Nobilities i.e. the Ars Goetia). But in his tier, he might actually be the strongest Overlord bordering or even reaching Nobility level due to the fact that Alastor canonically rose to Overlord from Sinner due to strength instead of amount of soul contracts like the other Overlords.

I love how Alastor emotionally manipulates Charlie by showing her all the things he’s done for her, while Lucifer is just showing her everything he COULD do for her.
That is one of the perks of being me. I can manipulate easily and it takes almost no effort to make people feel a certain way.

His song at 19:57 and his behavior during it leads me to believe that he _may_ lose his mind at some point in the series and go full villain mode on pretty much anyone that dares even look at him wrong. All the disrespect he's been getting lately combined with Husker reminding him that he _is not_ the one in control has got to be eating away at his composure. And that little line to Charlie feels like it's eluding to a bigger reveal at some point. "Just because you see a smile, don't think you know what's going on underneath." And he says how he smiles to feel like the one in control, when in fact, he is not.
this is such an intelligent theory/comment, though i want him to stay on the goofy evil side as much as the next person, i would be really impressed and fascinated and even excited to see what they do if they end up going down that route with his character. i think itd definitely give me a lot of respect for the writers because exploring that desperate, ‘insane’ mindset in a character is both difficult to pull off both tastefully and well, and an absolutely darkly gripping treat when done correctly. this comment is a really beautiful evaluation of his character thus far, and a well-written, gripping read!
Makes sense, it's crazy how despite constantly smiling, you're never lost when it comes to how Alastor feels. This smile portrays a desperate man on the verge of a complete breakdown, different from his usual playful, cunning and mischievous smile or his enraged "don't fuck with me" smile, as Alastor is typically confident in things going to plan, showing no fear or weakness, and so his one moment of emotional vulnerability is surprisingly scary because the guy's clearly a control freak. There's also the possibility that he's realizing he feels genuine empathy, something he views as weakness, and might not even comprehend what he's feeling, so as a result he's trying to double down on his evil, which could present an interesting inner conflict if he plans on trying to go against Charlie if she is the deal maker here.

I personally think Alastor too will, in spite of himself, undergo redemption (to some degree at least). That's the whole point of the Hazbin Hotel
Something I just realized is that Alastor introduces himself to Adam using the exact phrasing he used during the pilot. Kind of a fun callback that flies under the radar if you aren't listening for it.

What I love about Alastor is the fact that he always smiles. So the only way to know his expressions is his Eye movements. Being when he is annoyed he twitches, when he is mad his eyes turn red. These simple animation adds so much depth onto Alastor

Everything about Alastor is intoxicatingly good. His old-timey ways and radio voice, the constant smug smile, suave composure intermittently broken by the short moments where he's completely unhinged and showing he's much more sinister than face value, it's fucking great.
And i extra enjoy that he isn't depicted as "being stuck in the past" so to speak. He actually has knowledge of the growing technology. He just has strong opinions and preferences.
I think that is why a good portion of the fans (myself included) fell in love with him cuz he's just amazing!

It is true though. Radio has never been dead. It may not be today’s main source of entertainment and information anymore. But it’s still very much alive and used to this day. Heck TV and phones have it now too!
The more you watch him, the more you can catch recognize his different emotions. He’s all smiles, but you can tell he’s mad by his eyes and by the way his lips snarl up sometimes. It’s interesting

Did anyone else notice alastor waited to make a deal with charlie when she was easiest emotionally manipulated, she was upset with vaggie and was experiencing too many emotions to process, so when alastor said he didnt want her soul there was nothing off about it to her because she was thinking about vaggie lying to her, experiencing shock, depression,anger,ect.
I find it interesting that both times he made deals with them,he used the other to manipulate them into making a deal with him.
Charlie didn't realize what he was doing but vaggie obviously did because he literally said " - or charlie can come back to nothing"
Doesn't really get more obvious than that, but charlie doesn't know vaggie made a deal with alastor, wich could have been the same as Charlie's deal or a one time thing, but if it was a one time deal, than i can see vaggie being manipulated into making another deal with alastor getting tricked into selling her soul to alastor ( who would use charlie to manipulate her ) and then vaggie later blaming Charlie, leading to another bump in their relationship, wich might bring lute into the picture trying to get her to make a similar deal like adam tried to when he talked to her in the hotel room in heaven .

Honestly, I wonder what Alastor will use Charlie for because of the deal they made, which pretty much forces Charlie to help Alastor. My theory is that he might use her to free himself from the deal he’s made with whoever it is (theories say its Lilith, we’ll just have to wait and see), since he’s pretty much going crazy because of it, as we see in his part of the Finale song where he legit has a mental breakdown.
I personally think that the “Charlie hurts no one” caveat is what’s really going to bite her in the ass.

Everything about this character is so perfect, his radio like voice works so well with his personality, the feedback makes him seem broken and twisted, and the fact that he always smiles makes him seem more insane, as if he believes everything will go his way, or finds every little disturbing thing so enjoying, but he still gives off a sophisticated vibe, like the confidence in what he says, almost making everything that comes out of his mouth is 100% absolute almost flawed though, the perfect combination of insanity and formality. it's because the whole series is animated on twos and threes, but that particular shot has a new illustration on pretty much every frame. It feels so much smoother than any other shot because it *is* so much smoother than any other shot. There are literally more separate drawings per second than any other point in the show.
