Emily is definitely Charlie's parallel. They're sheltered, naive, in high places, with strong sense of morals and belief in virtues, both open and willing to extend a hand to others, and tbh their respective naiveté likely comes from the adults who love them sheltering them and thinking they aren't strong enough to be burdened in unintentional condescension.
Tho Emily is more sheltered than Charlie just on account of never having known of the extermination while Charlie has to live with that knowledge.
Lucifer has given up (after being crushed by Heaven), Sera has resigned and hardened her heart entirely--Emily and Charlie are definitely gonna be an important bond made going forward
They're sisters
Yep. They could very well be the Bridge between Heaven and Hell, mending the ten thousand years of division that has existed between the two realms.
To be fair, nobody knew about the extermination except Sera.
It'd be a smart narrative move if Emily becomes an ally of the Hotel and its residents in the second season -- she already thought Charlie had a valid idea, and with the newly-arrived undeniable proof of the concept, she's got a good reason to want to help protect her friend's good work from what's coming. (No _way_ the battle's outcome goes unanswered.)
Bringing Charlie up again might be difficult, considering the change in leadership of the Extermination forces, but the Embassy at the center of the city might still be an option for communication if it isn't actively monitored. We'll have to wait and see, but with the paradigm shift that just happened, keeping in contact is going to be more important than ever... and besides, now we've got _three_ characters up there who might want to send a message back down.

“If Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie!”

So true. Hence why every religion should be questioned.
You have to quote it with the following lines:
"If hell is forever,
Then heaven must be a lie/
if angles can do whatever/
and remain in the sky"
It's not that the permanence of hell is against the concept of heaven, but if the expectation of suffering is so high, than the expectation of virtues of heaven should be equal.
@@BioLivbanonquestioning is kinda science’s thing
666 likes
@@disrespecc9678Eh, it was religion's at one point.
Main reason it stopped at least for Christianity is it disrupted the current power structure.
The church used to fund research for astronomy, most notably Galileo before he started questioning the pope and got executed for it. The science didn't agree with the faith at the time, so the church couldn't use the christianity as a means for more power, thus the later condemnation of science.
Faith healing becomes a lot less profitable when germ theory exists.
Paying money to the church for "forgiveness" ain't justifiable if the empirical data suggests that you can't buy your way unto heaven.
Hell, that's why Jesus, the core of christianity, was killed. The Sanhedron leaders got mad that Jesus was diminishing their power by practicing what he preached and proving even the dregs/gentiles of society can improve and redeem themselves. The "insane" notion that the Sanhedron leadership were still servants of God and not the other way around. Hell, they basically condemned and disowned Nicodemus, a high ranking religious and political official who taught most of the leadership about the Torah because listened to Jesus and agreed with him, accepting he was a servant of God and accepting he was mortal, a failable human.
Kinda similar to how the song is, the servant's of God instead believing themselves to be "perfect", ironically committing blasphemy in doing so, judging and subjugating all they saw as inferior in spite of many high ranking officials within the organization considering these inhumane actions as deplorable and actively fighting against it.
In order to preserve their power, their status quo, they kill their savior and exile all those who followed him, including themselves.
Science was encouraged by at least Christianity until it conflicted with a select few human hypocrite's power.
"Wait...None of you KNOW what gets someone into Heaven?"
That line always gives me chills: it changes everything we thought about the afterlife, and what it means going forward in future seasons.
Well they truly don't know. Sera has been around since the inception of Heaven and Earth. At the beginning it was only Heaven and Earth and literally every soul on Earth was supposed to go to Heaven, but when Lucifer gave the Apple of Knowledge to mankind, that is what created Hell. Since then, they have absolutely no idea what causes somebody to go to heaven or hell. So that is also why Sera shuts this down as no evidence to show a soul can be redeemed because to their knowledge, if he was redeemed, he would automatically respawn in heaven, and since he is still in hell, as far as they know, there is no redemption.
Sera literally straight up says, we know when a soul arrives. That's it. That's all they know about if a soul deserves heaven or hell, just where they go at the time of their death. No justification for it.

So I'm going to say it, just to be a contrarian. A few good deeds don't make up for a lifetime of sin and evil. Nobody is evil all the time, and even bad men can love their mamas or their friends. It would (or at least, it should) take a truly repentant heart and many good deeds.
That's why Pentious made it. He was committed to changing himself, and really leant into the whole redemption thing. And in the end, he made the ultimate sacrifice for his friends.
AND, additionally now that I think about it, Angel wasn't repentant. I understand that Angel's being abused and mistreated, but that's no excuse. He's not repentant. He's selfish and self-absorbed and makes no effort to improve himself or his circumstances.
Yes. Sorry my broken English. Alastor, for example, canonically loves his mother very much. But that doesn't change the fact that he is a serial killer. But it can't be called the ultimate evil either. He knows how to forgive, he isn't vindictive, he is ready to help those in need or friends. But he doesn't repent of what he did. I think what I like about Adam and Lute’s characterization is that Adam uses his belief system to justify his actual motivation: that he thinks it’s fun to kill sinners and screw around. Lute, on the other hand, is fully bought into Adam’s ideology and treats it like gospel, even if Adam doesn’t take it that seriously. This, in my mind, makes Lute way way more dangerous.
It's why I wanna see Lute interact with Sir Pentious in Season Two, they're kind of the two opposite sides of the coin in terms of influence. Lute was brainwashed to be an elitist killing machine that fully believes she deserves to be in heaven no matter what she does, while Sir Pentious was enlightened to be simply a better kinder version of himself and got into heaven without even meaning to. Even more so since they were both the products of an apathetic spineless ruler and a second in command that works totally on their own impulses.

When I first watched that, I thought she might even become a love interest for Charlie, especially with the reaction of vaggie when they first met and held hands lol
What I like most about this episode is that Charlie named Angel Dust as an example, instead of Sir Pentious. It showed that she deeply believes Angel Dust is her best example of a redeeming being.
Which is interesting because previously, she and Vaggie both sort of call him out for not taking the whole thing very seriously, specifically contrasting him to Sir Pentious who DOES.
@@ladyofrillwater Admittedly they accused Angel of not trying to improve himself and not caring about the program before they found out about his contract with Valentino and the abuse he faces because of it.
I personally think that's why Charlie used him as an example instead of Sir Pentious.
Pentious seemed to willingly do his evil actions, and chose by his own free will to change and make amends.
Due to his situation, Angel doesn't have that option, since a lot of his sins and vices are because of, or used as a mental escape from, his abuse by Valentino, but he still makes massive strides to improve himself despite that.
And yet she never said that to his face
I think Charlie,Vaggie, and the rest of the Hotel crew are going to be so happy to find out Sir.Pentious is alive and they're going to be proud of him,too for being the first sinner to redeemed himself, even though I think Angel Dust might be a little jealous but proud at the same time at Sir.Pentious.

2:41 Charlie and Emily both calling out Heaven's hypocrisy through reprising Adam's song was AMAZING. Can't wait to see how the angels deal with the revelation that sinners can indeed, be redeemed
Even more interesting will be in seeing how Sera processes how her decision backfired in every possible way.
While the Sinners of Hell were apathetic and prone to infighting before, now they're starting to rally and join together.
While the forces of Hell once had literally no way to seriously harm anyone from Heaven, the countless exterminations have left so many Angelic weapons in Hell that they now could be a genuine threat.
While before Lucifer was too depressed to involve himself and had agreed to stay on the sidelines, he's now active and inspired with his previous agreements with Heaven to stay uninvolved no void.
While trying to keep the residents of Heaven content and oblivious, she's fostered a conspiracy that many within Heaven would be abhorred by and compounded the additional discontent by keeping it a secret.
And now after asserting her authority to reinforce the status quo as she understands it, the cosmos have just dumped Sir Pentious in front of her as walking, talking rebuke of everything she'd claimed.

I love the symbolism as Emily hears Sera tell her “I wanted to save you the anguish it takes to ~do what was required~” while looking into Sera’s eyes seeing nothing but hellfire and malice in the one who’s supposed to be the best of them, and in charge.
I think the reason her eyes are on fire is because of her undying worship for God's kingdom. As a Seraphim, she will do anything to protect it.
Her eyes burn because she views the extermination of human souls as a good thing if it protects God's kingdom.
@@minersheep8285there is no fire in her eyes, that's the fire of Hell reflecting on her... And that lets quite no space of interpretation : it shows the twisted and corrupted view she has. Not a burning love or intent. Not an undying flame of worship.
Those are hellish flames.
@@minersheep8285 Wow you're bad at media literacy, it's not even subtle. The fires of hell are reflected in her eyes to represent how in her zealotry she has allowed herself to be party to unspeakable acts.
@minersheep8285 Relax y'all, I think they're talking about the old literal definition of a Seraphim, which is 'the burning ones' or 'angels of fire'. The idea is that they're constantly ablaze with holy love and spread it to others, which is metaphorically what Emily does.
While the fire in this scene is definitely a reflection, I think taking it as a metaphor works. Sera would rather burn Hell to the ground than let anyone climb the ladder.
@@jamespage4809 and that's not the meaning of the scene in my opinion.
The phrase "do as required" the look on her face, all point toward an inner corruption masked behind a smile.
There is not a single trace of "she loves Heaven as a burning fire".
It is a metaphor, of course it is. We just found their interpretation farfetched.
This frame right here 1:29 with Angel bloody, bruised, hopeless and scared and Lute completely dehumanizing and invalidating his situation saying he deserves it all because he “blew his shot” and then degrades him further with “like the cocks in his mouth” is just sooo omg. Just goes to show how heartless she is, to find disgust in angel’s situation and blame it on him. I get goosebumps. Like the feeling of “how daaaare you” wells up inside me as Lute sings. I freaking love Lute’s part it just hits so hard where it hurts. And I love Lute as a villain as well, hope we get more songs from her because my god her voice is just 👌.

2:44 the way sera says "emily" conveys a lot of panic, it seems that she is really afraid of something.
Pretty sure scared of Emily for calling out or question things and fear for her risking being a "fallen" like Lucifer.
Ooh
@@nourhajj4999that’s why I don’t believe it was God himself who banished Lucifer - because I don’t even think God, who is forgiving but not merciful, would banish the Angel whom he favored? I believe it was the angels who actually banished Lucifer - notice he says “Heaven (or the angels) aren’t understanding” he never says “God isnt understanding”.. angels have been blindly following their OWN morals/rules - not God.. and I think once God realizes what they’ve done, punishment awaits them ALL.

If Angela can fall then demons should rise!
This song hits especially hard when you remember the creator, Vivzie, had a background in evangelical missionary work. She probably grew up much like Emily, thinking everything was going according to God’s happy little plan, until she grew older and saw the suffering forced onto communities labeled “sinners” by the church. Something tells me “if hell is forever then heaven must be a lie” comes from that angry, betrayed place many can sympathize with: being ensured that The Holy Plan is good and right, only to be horrified at its horrors and destruction.
The synchronized duet of Emily and Charlie at 2:41 was amazing! 10/10
True
I have a theory they are half sisters, Emily is the daughter of Lucifer and Eve, he did brag to Adam about how his two wives fell for him so I think it could be plausible
@@sammybutler3027That's a valid theory.
@@sammybutler3027I don't think this theory makes much sense since Emily is an archangel and I don't think angels are born from sins
@@Carol-cr6swwell lucifer is an archangel, maybe she inherited that
I dunno why, but the shot of Sera at 2:19 while trying to explain that she "made such a hard decision" to protect her people WITH FLAMES IN HER EYES is awesome.
I think because it's just not only a good shot but also bears so much meaning. "Do what was requied" - it implies so much. But mostly, heaven, which is supposed to be good and peaceful, was approving a mass-murdering. And showing Sera's "friendly" face with the fire shows the madness it all has(I think she may not even realise it)
What was it the road to hell was paved with?
@@janicchiIt was from Emily’s perspective I believe that’s why there was fire in her eyes

I was iffy about this show when I heard it was a musical, but here I am, watching the same song over and over. I liked when Charlie and Emily started singing in unison. The slow, punchy cadence somehow really expresses their shared anger and defiance for what is clearly a hypocritical injustice.

adam's "she's an angel just like us" is SOOOO good i get chills.
Sera and Charlie are just like twin sisters.
At 2:40 Charlie and Emily don't actually jump up together. As Emily is grappling with the personal betrayal, after hearing Charlie chime in "that's what the $%*(& I've been saying," there's a very slight pause and then Emily grabs Charlie's hand and pulls her up off the ground with her to tell off heaven. The two end up standing side by side almost at the same moment, but they don't spontaneously make the decision to jump up together. Emily grabs the demon's hand and flies up, pulling Charlie up beside her. The metaphor alone is great, lifting up a demon to where Adam was a moment ago, but the character choice understanding that Emily - the one who should be far more conflicted about telling off the other angels - is the one that spurs the action and pulls the demon up to stand beside her as an equal in defying the rest of them is just... *chef's kiss*
The attention to detail is brilliant in this song. Even when it goes by so fast you have to pause to see what's going on.

i feel like youre both right and taking things too far at the same time
This is probably the best animated bit in the whole show and there are tons of small details that I'm sure were intentional, the fact that Emily starts getting more eyes as she argues with Sera both during and after the song, the flames reflected in Sera's eyes, Adam gesturing as Lute sings.
It’s just a little jump 😭
This, by far, is the most powerful song the series has offered so far. The parallels it has to hell is forever, and the way it shows Sera’s true twisted nature to Emily really shows what heaven thinks about sinners.
Yeah, for me it's the most powerful song to Tell the story BC much things happens in the song and much information is told in the song, it's a big difference between when it begins and when it ends
