- Using parts from the Isuzu donor truck, I build a cool wooden steering steering wheel. Then I repurpose the Isuzu steering column and customize it to fit the 1939 Hudson Big Boy I'm busy with.

You’re a man of many talents. That’s the first time I’ve seen anyone make it their own steering wheel. Being so isolated makes you resourceful. Again, nice work Dif.
Thanks. I could just buy one. But where's the fun in that?🙂
Thanks! That steering wheel looks absolutely beautiful. I love that wood grain. I hope you plan on making more wooden parts for the interior.
I greatly appreciate you letting me sit in with you while you work.
👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you brother! Appreciate the contribution once again! Yeah, expanding the wood theme into the rest of the interior is not a bad idea!
@@ratrodsafrica
It's definitely a great idea and I wanted to suggest similar. But I was lost for words then.
That steering wheel is to die for

Mr. Diff the man of a thousand idea
Awesome home made wood steering wheel
Thanks for another my Brother !
Perfect sunday ...resting and seeing your vídeo!
Man that eye in the wood is what I love about wood… no piece is the same. The infusion of wood and steel makes me feel like a cat has laid an egg inside me. Your work is like that wood… no single piece of work is the same and your humbleness reflects throughout
Looking like it was hand formed is a deffinately good thing here.
That is a beautiful steering wheel. The wood grain it has helps it a lot. Good job.
Thanks 👍
Nice steering wheel. New things to try. Thank you Dif.
That’s a good looking steering wheel.
Ok DIV you have my complete attention I LOVE WOOD STEERING WHEELS!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Freaking awesome Diff. Keep up the awesome craftsmanship in your videos.
Thanks! Will do!
westport wa state, here sir.
and what a fine turkey day it was. my wife got a stomach bug from something she had eaten the day before. felt bad for my wife. but did not have to go anywhere. hell yea. sat around and nothing but i wanted. for a whole day. home was built in 1930. so always something to do. replacing shingles is always fun.
I am an American Jeeper and love building my Jeep, but I also have a nice home wood shop and love to build for my family. I use a lot of rough cut specialty wood but have not heard of this one but it is beautiful, love the grain!!!! Thank You
Diff, you did such a great job on the 39 Hudson Pickup! I can imagine how it would look if it had some body work and a cool paint job!!!!!
One thing I don't do is to touch Bondo!😅
Thats absolutely Fandastic Diff
I love the wood steering wheel. One thing I want to do when I get a chance to build my own wood sterring wheel, is use brass rivets this guy from South Africa showed me how to do them. I can't wait. Great video Div.
Bart
Thank you Bart. Yeah, brass inserts will look great.
Amazeballs .. fun episode I'm all smiles watching you have fun
This is gonna be among the best of Diff's videos! I can see wood dash panels and doors. I just knew there was a ship builder or carpenter in there somewhere! 😊
Thanks. Guess I'm now gonna hafta bring in some more wood in the interior 😅
Metal worker, Wood worker, Artist, very impressive. I really like the steering wheel - very well done.
Thanks!
Great job on the steering wheel. No need to apologize for the way your working hands look a few bumps and scars come with life and help to tell your story.
Thanks 👍
That's beautiful, excellent job 👍
Man Diff, the character and grain in that wood is amazing. Thanks.
That steering wheel came out awesome, love the grain on the timber.
Thanks 👍
Indeed a man with many hiden talents!
Yeah I like it, steering wheel is cool as.
"Wabi-sabi, perfection in imperfection" like the Harley-Davidson overhead valve "Knucklehead" and "Panhead" v-twin engines.
😁
A great project with beautiful results.Ive been wondering how I will finish my steering wheel in my 40 dodge for a while now so thanks for the inspiration. My hands are old and beat-up as well so I think that the fat grip will be comfortable. Cheers from Edmonton Alberta Canada where it is 0c with light snow. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! The beauty of building your own is you can make that grip to suit you🙂
That worked out very nicely.
Good to c u turn things not so good into real good things look good 👍🏼
Damn, that turned out beautiful.that knot looks like an eye to me
It's official, there's nothing that you can't do! Great video, beautiful steering wheel!

Cool wheel! Inset a round piece of Paua shell in the "eye"!
That really came out beautifully 👌

Steering wheel looks awesome 😎
Thanks!
That steering wheel looks great Diff
Thanks!
Way cool thanks Div
That is so sweet wish the Newer Vehicles had is Options
Ahhh but it'll never rust hahaha Really great video. Top job!
I was betting with myself you'd sand the wheel while it spun around slowly in a lathe...the cordless drill lathe is complete & utter genius!!!
This is the "Make-Do-Technology" I just love seeing. Absolute genius!
I'm not at all fluent in wood n timber but the router table looks a pretty cool thing. Some tools just look like they'd be satisfying to use. Finished job is outstanding...that finished wood pops & glad you kept the Knot, adds even more cool character.
Two thumbs up man!!!
Thank you brother! Yeah one thing that won't rust😅
Lekka man, So beautiful grain
Great job Diff!
Boet that steering wheel is lekka. It has the rusty look that works well with the rest of the Hutson rat rod. Take care
Very nice work!! I love the old school you build it!!

Great wheel....
.Sweet
Awesome afternoon brother from another country another awesome adventure as always brother awesome craftsmanship brother
That Hudson is truly a work of art, Dif. Every peice you add makes it more so. Cant wait to see it rolling down the road! BTW, VERY jealous of the number of clamps you have around to do that wheel!
Took many years to collect them. Just keep at it🙂
Love the woodworking Brother...........it's looking great!
Div your a artist with your old tools by proud of it looks good
Awesome! Work smarter not harder!😂
You proved the theory
" give a human a repetitive boring task , and the brain will spend all its processing power ,to figure out an easier way of doing it ."
And a beautiful piece of work
😁 Thanks
I'm diggin it Diff. I liked your home made wood clamp too. Have a Lekka one brother man.
Yer man ,,find a way and it works, well done 😊
Thanks 👍
There is a nice eye in that timber, literally looks like an eye. Router has to be one of the most useful woodworking tools, next to the Div drill lathe. Nice wheel for sure.
Cool beans Diff, like the wood flavor and that eye or knot in the one piece, gives it character! Or something like that, right? Rock on with brother man 🤘🤘✌️, rock on with it, geez I can't write, haha!
A true craftsman 👍🏻
Wheel looks great man, you definitely have some great talent ✌
Really beautiful.
Very beautiful!
Best video yet
I spent my summer building a shop for my brother-in-law which has kept me away from your posts for a bit. Finally getting caught up. I love working with wood as well and would give my left one for an 8 foot stick of the wood you used for the steering wheel. Nothing like that here in Oregon. Everything you touch becomes a Rembrandt. So impressed. Awesome work my friend! Cheers!
Ah man, I got lots of that wood, but how to get it to you? Will cost a frigging fortune! Nice of you to build shop for the brother in law.👍
Beautiful steering wheel! Very good work!
Thank you very much!
Great job 👏 👍 I really like that your works is not just rushed , I know that your doing your best and it's a pleasure to see that . Thanks for sharing with us .
Thanks! What's the point of rushing, the journey is the most important. For me anyway 🙂
@ratrodsafrica I think your attention to details mixed with your skills is a winning combination.
@flyingmachinecustomparts8227 thanks bro. As they say, the devil is in the details 🙂
It is definitely a cool looking wheel. I have thought about building my own wheel from a late model wheel, Just burning the old rubber off and then the sky is the limit...
Go for it!
Looks awesome Dif! I really like the color of the steering wheel.
Thanks 👍
Love the steering wheel. Maybe more wood on dash and door panels later? I know you like the rat rod look .I do too.but this truck is to much of a masterpiece not to paint in my opinion. But whatever you decide. This is my favorite build so far.
Thank you. Yeah, might expand on the wood theme, let's see
Beautiful wheel Diff. Good job.
Thanks 👍
Hi Diff. If you'd permit me to pay you a compliment you're one talented HOMBRE !
Thanks bro!
