This is my favorite series - talking about history, reliability and price of not so old cars. Keep them coming.
These are one of my favourite series, too.
Me too
After buying an older vehicle, I connect with these videos! So awesome
@@grahamrothphotography Good job. Thanks.
Nathan breaking the door handle on the Kia was so on point for a 2006 Kia 😂😂
Or any Korean product
@@Welcometofacsistube samsung makes great stuff tho, in korean culture getting a job at samsung is a point of pride, then you're seen as mediocre if you can't get a job on samsung but you land one on hyundai (given that there these companies are massive conglomerates that do a lot more stuff than what we know them for outside korea), and at last if you can't get a job either at samsung or at hyundai you're straight up a shame and a disappointment, your father might never look at you in the eyes again.
To be fair they are good cars. Honestly impressed by the overall quality of them.
Nathan seems like he’d rather be doing his taxes than this video. He’s so disinterested here lol.
The cayenne with a eurowise lift and some K02 tires with a roof rack are going for 15k to 20k. Crazy.
My 1988 Ford Festiva was built by Kia. It is the only vehicle I ever bought brand new. Great car for a college kid.
You know what would be cool is if you show a car near the end of the video or a few cars. And have the viewers guess how much they'll sell for the following episode. It's going to be tough because there will be alot of variables other than what we think the value of the vehicle is. Thanks.. maybe giving a shout out to the one closest to the price or a free shirt😊
I have a 2006 VW Touareg V8 with the air suspension. My biggest pet peeve is the battery under the seat. Also the headliner is just gone. I paid $6,900.
I have a V10 TDI but in a Phaeton, basically the same engine. Daily driving it for the past 8 years. Love to roadtrip it!
Reliability... I will say that, they can be very reliable when maintained properly, but any sort of neglect or abuse will cause repair bills through the roof. Would love to show/tell more about it if you're interested
Man, I was eyeing that Cobalt SS Supercharged in the back! Fun series, for sure.
The most favourite of these off-road SUV's is the Kia Sorento, because the Porsche Cayenne S and the Mercedes-Benz ML 430 are just too expensive to maintain and to repair. In addition, these German vehicles are great ones, as well. Thank you very much.
When he pulled the door handle off that Kia I almost peed myself. That was so damn hilarious!
This series rocks! I love owning older vehicles! I grabbed at 2011 Grand Cherokee overland 4x4 hemi in March, 200,000kms on it, has air suspension, and put on 18inch wheels, and wildpeak at3 tires, took it offroading to Ruby falls in Alberta, did it fine, paid $16400 for it, didn’t want car payments after writing off a newer vehicle. (Lastly no hemi tick)
Ditto - bought a 2012 Overland Summit w/134k for $11k US, runs great. Mine's a flex fuel V6.
This is an oddly entertaining series. Keep up the good work!
YOUR BIGGEST KENYAN FAN RIGHT HERE, AS USUAL, 22/09/2023
Nathan is my spirit animal 😅
Mitsubishi montero is the ultimate off road sleeper. you can get a low milage example for peanuts and its basically ready to go stock.
They are much less of a sleeper in other markets.
Ha! I love Nathan. He seemed positively thrilled.
I definitely appreciate this series. Great information on sleeper vehicles.
Thanks for the message on my channel. I would take the ML for the typical Mercedes interior and quality. The rest isn’t the best but still good. Second choice is the Porsche.
sure about the Mercedes? All the north American MLs are made in Alabama... that should tell you a lot about quality.
I really LOVE the Buy or Bust episodes!
Great seeing Nathan/Tommy (Nathy?) in this episode. My wife and I really enjoy this series, competing on guessing the sell price.
First, I really LOVE how they incorporated the Porsche design into Cayenne. It looks like Porsche, unlinke the more recent generations that look like Cayenn, not necessarilly Porsche (hope that makes sense).
Second, I once was driven in a first gen Touareg as a passenger. It was THE BEST ride I ever experienced in a vehicle! It changed direction so fast and precise, it almost didn't body roll at all, I felt some tiny vibrations from the road, but they didn't annoy me, didn't make me wanna vomit, I felt perfectly healthy and even somewhat lightweight. Not a single other car gave me the same feeling as that Touareg, no sedan or hatchback.
Only the following Cayennes were available with the 6M
2008 GTS and base trim.
2009 base trim.
2010 GTS and base trim.
2011 to 2014 base trim.
3:39 Smart man! I had the VW Touareg version and I really loved it and have driven a porsche cayenne that was similar still loved the Touareg interior more.
I love these!!!
Just found this channel also, love it!
This is the best show, I make sure always to watch it
Only the base model and the later GTS can be equipped with a manual transmission
955 Base, 957 GTS, and 958 Base were the models you could get with the manual, right?
I’ve got a 957 GTS with a manual, and it’s fantastic.
Love this series💯🙌
Id love to see a cross over episode with Car Wizard LMAO
The old ford festiva was badged as a Kia Pride and the Aspire was badged as the Kia Avella elsewhere in the world
Best pair of hosts?
Best father/son combo on tfl
I owned a 2008 Cayenne, base model with the 2.9 VR6, (yes, it was the narrow angle V6 Porsche-fied, and the 6-speed manual. It was way way underrated for HP and torque given how all the other vehicles with similar ratings perform, including my two door Wrangler with a manual, as well as all the other V6 SUV's out there. To this day, it defies logic that it could handle as well as it did on road, while still having a proper two speed transfer case and off road capability on par with the supposed dedicated off roaders of today. I miss it :( (I did sell it for $25,000 though last summer)
I should add that it cost me nothing to own other than maintenance for the 12 years I had it. Bulletproof.
Would love to see a buy or bust - commuter car version. Thanks guys!
vr6 is underpowered and v8 has piston issues/cooling pipes that are a pita to replace etc.
AWSOME vid👍even Kia was in good nick with low miles I would be tempted to buy but I remember when MB come out ML they look cool not big clumsy, definitely only MB I would buy.
Glad to see these auction prices approaching reality.
The 2020 BMW X5 offered an off road package. Air suspension and rear locking diff were available. Not sure if that package is still around.
The Cayenne would be cool with an engine swap. I wouldn't want the risk of a high dollar engine failure. Or just drive it until the engine needs a major repair, then do an engine swap.
If you remember back when you were in grade school the teacher would circle your mistakes hence the oval around KIA/Ford! LOL
Nice job Nathan Tommy lol
I guessed $3000  A friend of mine leased a new Cayenne S , it lived at Porsche dealer Mark Motors of Ottawa for at least half the time of the lease being repaired so now even though they pretty cheap I still wont buy one . My friend went back to driving Audis .
Those 5.0 V10 TDI engines are economical black holes... I know of several of those that had to have their turbos replaced 3 times before they hit 100000 miles. An operation that requires removing the engine from the vehicle...
I remember seeing a bunch of those Kia Sorrentos with fake BMW X5 grills on them.
@TFLclassics! This looks like a fun project to see what kind of Rally/light off roader you can turn it into, but the stock seats aren't meant for big huge fat people, you know!
I looked up the fuel economy on that Kia and my 03 GMC Yukon gets better economy which is nuts to me. Not an amazing design, but yeah, still a little cool.
You've got it backwards on the Cayenne. The S is the WORST of the engines due to bore scoring of the Lokasil liners. Wouldn’t touch one.
The Turbo has better Nikasil liners and oiling which make it much more reliable. There are still things like the water pumps and cooling lines that go (they affect the NA too), but if you’re reasonably handy you can avoid the “Porsche Tax” by doing it yourself. Like most turbos, they are pretty receptive to tuning, plus they are nice at altitude. Mileage is horrendous with both the NA and turbo V8s. They're all porky, but tuned to over 500 hp...that's a pretty fun pig.
The VW VR6 motor is anemic, but at least it won't grenade. Probably.
There was also a rare diesel, but who cares.
On the topic, if someone in the Midwest has a first generation Turbo (or Turbo S) with the off-road package, I’d be interested in buying.
I was coming to say the same thing about the cylinder lining. Interesting that the same engine in turbo and non-turbo builds has a different lining material. That said, if you live in a warm climate the Lokasil is usually fine, it's only in climates where it gets below freezing that it is usually an issue IIRC
@@SpeedyTubaGuy Definitely an issue in Chicago and I like mountain road trips. On a side note, the higher end air suspension is also really good on the Turbos. When they fail it's usually a valve (as I remember), which isn't that difficult or expensive to replace, but if you take it to a dealership they will immediately replace the whole system which is many thousands of dollars.
lol, I just spent as much for a totaled XJ as that very clean Porche Chayane.
love it
For the Kia Sorento there is an Ome lift that will lift it about 2 inches. For about 1500 is a good deal for a starting off roader.
You couldn't give me a Kia/Hyundai. Nope! I never had a high opinion of them and the recent recalls of over 6 million of them with engines with free metal shavings included or fires caused by either fluid leaks or electrical problems, my opinion has not improved. And that's without getting into the alleged situation with 12 to 15-year-olds making some of the body parts in Alabama.
So, no, you couldn't give me one.
@@frederickevans4113Ok, I won’t give you one then.
@@frederickevans4113 I drove my2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo from 20k miles to 120k miles and all I replaced were tires, battery, and brakes. Pretty solid car for the price.
Mercedes ML W163 is the king of suburban 💪🏼
You guys need to start telling us the mileage on these vehicles going thru suction, please and thanks..
Need to find a Borrego, or Veracruz.
I would have gone Kia Borrego over the Sorento
The Porsche is the choice of high end desert real estate agents in Joshua Tree.
Mercedes never uses plastic wood, it's always true veneers
Go the kia! Would love a very cheap beater to scrape on rocks
The ML is not a soft roader, it's a real offroader with, chassis, its special traction control that can act like lockers, also has a real low gear transfer case, I still have one, had it for over 5 years, it has done trails level 5 with no problem, so it's wrong! To say it's a soft roader, Nathan Tommy never turned of ESP on the dash, the yellow triangle needs to show wen doing harder off road trails, also with the low gear engaged, it makes the vehicle so capable almost like having lockers.
For myself, the 2001 ML320 has been extremely reliable, cross country driving it threw mountains and highway never any problem, a truly remarkable vehicle
This is an awesome story, because these older ML 320's are the best vehicles in the world.
@md2k8 True! But it's the 2000 to 2005 models that are more reliable, also better equipped. The 1998 to 99 had some issues that were resolved on newer models. In fact even some of the mechanical main components ware modified, it's transfer case and the front and back differentials, for the 2000 to 05 the gear ratio was changed giving it 52% torque to the back and 48% to the front, just like the G wagon Mercedes
You guys need to buy a 1st gen Cayenne for the channel!
I think they had one at one time a few years back.
@@oldshowfanatic77 ah, I will try to find it. Thank you!
The one thing that I don’t like with that Mercedes suv is that it feels a little cramped inside? Or just me?
I see an SS Cobalt in the background and it's probably supercharged. WHERE are all the turbos, 2008 - 2010? Mine blew up, but that couldn't have been the case for the vast majority, right....
Just remember the ml in Jurassic park
Mercedes-Benz ML earned it's nickname as the Alabama Trash Can...
Thats why some of the Kia Fortie looks like a 2012 Ford Focus in my opinion
Brendan’s red bread and Nathan’s chrome dome are purely majestic together!
Thank you guys. I don't know, a used German vehicle - sounds like a money pit. The original Cayenne based on the Touareg?
Yes, same with the Audi Q7
Porsche did the bulk of the engineering work on the platform, the Touareg is basically a chassis engineered by Porsche with VW interior/electronics
Cayenne’s were available with diesels
DAMN!.. I would LOVE That porche for $2200
i like mercedes that's real wood. porshhh is great too both great offroaders as is.
Oh yeah! Now I’m gonna buy a Cayenne! First time it breaks down I’ll have to mortgage my house to have it repaired…
Cayenne - Yes, Sorento - Old are ugly, new aren't bad, ML - that one eww, newer ones yes
I wouldnt offroad any of those 3. Even for a bargain.
Wow! A Kia with Dodge Omni door handles. I know a Auto dealer who bought a Kia Dealership as he could buy a franchise for only $25,000. After a year, he told Kia to take back all of his Kia cars and would easily live with the $25000 loss. He had several dealerships in salt Lake City and it was giving him a bad name.
what I find older (early to mid 2010s) have softer seats than new vehicles, which I find too hard. Mercedes is a good example of this. I drive a GL 63 AMG 2015. FYI the Touareg also came with a W12
Ahhh, no Tommy. Ohhh, Nathan, just as good!
Hey...here's a thought. Film (4 or 5) cars just in case a car gets pulled like this.
Still sleeping on first gen Sequoias?!?!
The problem with Kia has always been the dealer network.
Worse than Porsche?
Can’t get any V8 with a manual. Only the 6
Auction
These are better with Tommy and Brendan, they have a more natural buddy chemistry. Nathan looked grumpy or even uncomfortable.
Dang. I’m glad I don’t have the ability to bid at the auction because I would spend so much money
2000's era KIA is to me 80's era Nissan.
Kinda feels like a couple of used car salesmen doing this vid
OK! That was a funny one!
All of them went for less than what I thought.
Nearly all Mercedes are deceivingly quick
That Kia's interior is no worse than a 2006 Grand Cherokee.
jeep wrangler
Discount cayenne= Volkswagen touraeg
You replaced Tommy with Nathan!?
I'll take my insults from Nathan off the air. Thanks
You’re welcome ❤
@@NathanDAdlen honestly dude you responding to my comments makes me start to like you🤣
Absolutely love these videos but not a fan of Nathan.
Those MLs are junk.
The Kia and Mercedes were at a very low point in quality In those model years. With mercedes probably the worst. I wouldn't buy either one of them and i've owned a Kia SUV. Out of the three my money would be on the Porsche.
Lots of junk cars at the auction.
You'd be miserable if you bought any of these...
I feel bad for the people that listen to your advice
Saying anything from Kia is dependable is absolutely asinine. Kia went from disposable cars to spontaneously combusting cars.
The Cayenne may be "low" priced now, but it will BREAK you in the long run. Think about it: a new Cayenne S will set you back $120,000+, and the parts and maintenance to keep this one running will reflect that price. At $2200, this might well be a part-out, as its component pieces are probably worth more than the car.
The Kia is FAR less expensive to maintain and repair. A lot of miles and body damage, plus whatever else shows up...not viable at any price.
The Benz, just like the Cayenne, will bury you in maintenance and repair costs. And, with over 200K, you ARE going to be spending some coin on repairs. From a dealer's perspective, an older Benz over 200K will be a slow seller and will NOT command a good price.
Did you really think nobody would know what you ment when you said 2006 versus 200&6 when talking about the Kia Sorento????? Or were you trying way too hard to seem overly educated?????!!!!!
Can Nathan be anymore annoyed to be there for the shoot?
