Fun fact about the Guardian Ape in Sekiro. In the first fight it’s moves like an aggressive ape, it’s moveset feels like you’re fighting an ape. In its second phase where it’s Centipede (parasite) appears the ape moves like a worm, slivers and bends unnaturally as the parasite has taken control. It’s a nice attention to detail Fromsoftware put in but then again this company is known for its incredible attention to detail.
Also for any players who don't know, headless form is INCREDIBLY weak to the thrusting spear. if you use that on his stump when he dives, it'll drag the parasite out for you to hit it directly
Also in Guardians of the Galaxy, Magus' name keeps showing up throughout the credits during the fake ending
The Guardians of the Galaxy game was SOOO GOOD!
Sure was
Not really
If it had a sequel game. It might be an all time fav for me
Said nobody ever
What he said man I loved guardians of the galaxy I still play it over everything from the music the story peters and rockets fights it was marvel needed after the avengers game
What about 10 times where the game Tricked you into thinking you Lost? Such as the fight with Thor in God of War Ragnarok
Dragon Age: Origins
Leaving the Howe Estate.
I got guardian of galaxy when it first came out and I absolutely love it, the game was so immersive I spent hours playing even went back and trophy hunting I found parts of the map I didn’t see on my first play through, all and all guardian of the galaxy has a 10 in my books
I feel the same way, GotG was a top notch game, played great on the PS5.
Damn shame Avenger's soured people on this hit.
Not a 10/10 game lol but def a good one.
One of the most boring games I’ve ever played, linear and boring
@@TheToxicPlayuh oh so only open world games are good aye? Thts so dumb lol. Game was actually very good and very widely regarded tht way. Who cares what 1 random thinks? Lol what games do you like? Please tell
I literally just beat Guardian of the Galaxy last night. I even screenshotted the victory walk thinking I beat the game. LMAO
That Hollow Knight boss fake out really got me. I even set my controller down in relief it was finally over. Then, he killed me and I had to go through all the torture again!
Oh pain. Having to walk through Soul Sanctum after you thought you were finally done with it. That must've hurt.
How cool would it be if the Falcon said at the "end": "That's all for today... Or is it?" And then they would show you the true number 1 clip?
That’s actually a outstanding idea.
That clocktower scene in the OG Resident Evil 3 (rip) had me completely fooled and I was so upset that I thought the game was over. Never before have I been so happy to be fooled by a video game.
For Guardians game....I realized something was off in the credits. Through the credits at the lead level Designers, if you are keen you will notice the name Philipe will change to Magus, for the keen eye that is
For anyone looking, 4:45 has an example.
Yup,
Adam Warlock saying he doesnt feel good during that celebratory walk and then during the credit roll Magus name appears many times, I was dead sure something is still left, possibly for sequel or some end credit but then was surprised that there is an entire boss fight just after that 😂😂
For a personal favorite of mine I’d have to say Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time. First time I played through I thought Nefarious was the final boss and even started having the ending like it was the end of the game. Then it throws you into a brand new boss battle against someone who was your ally throughout the game.
YES, that was so cool. But I kinda saw it coming because there where tiny hints that he has other ideas than ratchet.
Guardian ape scared the hell out of me. Took like 100 tries to do phase 1 and then he comes back off screen and I didn't see him until I was dead 😅
That shit pissed me off so bad I stopped playing for 2 weeks😂
@@drunozeko4332 Dude fucking same... lmao
I did not for a second believe Dagan was the final fight. It was pretty clear Bode was about to betray us.
I'm not going to lie, I was in the camp that thought Bode was going to die. To the point were I was actually in shock when he did betray Cal and the gang.
Don’t you mean Cade? He said Cade. Lol. I thought maybe it was a force illusion and we actually killed Bode in that fight
@@metalhedp8ntbll There is no character named Cade in Jedi Survivor. There is a Cal Kestis. You know, the character you play as and the guy Bode betrays.
I know. I didn’t say it. Falcon said it
I never played the game but the trailers showed me from the start that this character is just bad. The scene is also so fucking stupid. I hope this is not in the game.
It's very nice to see the Guardians Of The Galaxy game gets so much recognition in the community.
You've missed Jade Empire. Not sure if that was on the other list, but you hit a point where you think you're about to end the game only to be met with a massive reveal that changes your understanding of what happened in the story up to that point. It's probably the most satisfying narrative twist in any game that I've played
Exactly! And it's not like your are ALMOST at the end and the twist adds another level, it is like half-way through!
I LOVE Jade Empire!
Such an amazing game. If any game deserves a remake or remaster or some sort of modernization, it's Jade Empire.
@@JanMichalsky There were a couple of things that I thought were brilliant in the writing of the game. The first one was when the gate guard is killed in an early incident, but I felt something because I remembered the character, it wasn't just someone who took an arrow to the knee. The second thing, and this is the major one, is that the bizarre and cryptic dialogue you experience on the first play through makes perfect sense the second time. I think you can go deeper and add more good things, but those first two feel almost unique even decades on from that game being released
@@BrentHasCoolDogs I'd be OK with a remaster, I have a thing about remakes where I wish they'd just make something new with the same level of craft! I don't want to play another Batman game, give me a fresh world with new ideas to explore.
Now if the Jade Empire writers would turn their attention to a genuine Chinese legend like The Water Margin, or a story with a greater level of mysticism, oh please sign me up!
hey gameranx it would be appreciated if you specifically mentioned which games are gonna be spoiled in videos like this so i don't have to be scared about ruining an old game i've been wanting to play
They should really name the time stamps not ‘1 to 10’
I always hated when u fight genichiero in sekiro after u get his first 2 stages down and then u think u beat him only for another stage
Need a video with "10 Longest Boss Fights In Games." Some boss fights last a really long time. RPGs tend to drag out final boss fights for 45 minutes or more.
lol the first Donkey Kong Country game after you beat King K. Rool taught me not to trust a game's ending. It was an easy fight, but if you didn't know back then, it was a surprise to see him get right back up after it said 'the end'
They fooled a 6 year old me back in 1995😅😅
As soon as I read the title, the Guardian Ape from Sekiro came to mind. That one really got me.
Azuras Wrath is still one of my favorite games of all time
I think the twist in Bioshock counts as well. Defeating Andrew Ryan felt like you were about to wrap things up as you had just killed the "bloody king of Rapture". But the protagonist's problems just got way worse from there.
Honorable mention to Prototype. The fight between alex mercer and elizabeth greene exhausted me so much i deleted the game after that and watched rest of the story on CZcams
I know your job is playing games and making videos, but it makes me wonder how much time and money it takes to play all these games over the years? Just curious. I love this channel and you guys are great!
Dont forget, the dead ape in sekiro shows up AGAIN as an optional boss with 2 other apes as backup
Gameranx is the only CZcams channel that makes enjoyable videogame list videos. Like I used to watch WatchMojo and what cultures and they were just so annoying and repetitive after a while. But I've been watching gameranx videos for years and years and still enjoying it. So thank you guys 🙂🙂
The original Life of Strange got me.
I remember going to the art show thinking "We saved everyone" only to find out nope, everyone is doomed.
I thought the Asura's Wrath thing was a sequel hook but then they saw the sales and just threw it into a DLC
One of my favourite things I've seen in modern gaming is the opposite - a time when a game tricked you into thinking you LOST.
In God of War Ragnarok, during your first fight with Thor, it's scripted that you will die. During the GAME OVER SCREEN Thor calls you out demands the fight not over, and that you don't die, bringing you back to life so he can keep kicking your ass.
Inscription deserves a place on a list like this for it continues with a completely different new game when you think it is over, TWO TIMES.
Dragons dogma where true ending is much more complex than killing the dragon
Agree with this guy. I though game was over after I beat the dragon but nope…….gotcha
I have one. The final boss of Shenmue. It's a really freaking hard fight at the docks. You think it's over but there's one last QTE that if you miss, you instantly lose and have to do the whole fight again. I remember throwing the controler on the side the first time, my friend, looking at me, not telling me what's coming and enjoying seeing me get had too.
I actually quit the guardians game after I completed it and saw the credits. Didn’t find out it wasn’t the end of the game until I watched a CZcamsr do a play through nearly a year n half later. Wasn’t really upset though, just because how damn good the game was. My game of the year for sure. Loved it.
Great list - I’m not sure if Jade Empire belongs on this one or the “trick endings” one, but that was one hell of a surprise.
I loved that moment, especially because when you replay the game, so much of the dialogue lands differently. I think there is an argument that it is in the Top 10 best constructed game stories (if that description makes sense)
Hades grabbing the credits and tearing them off the scream in kid Icarus uprising will always be a favorite
Not going to lie, the first time I played Portal I sat for WAY too long at the conveyor belt ending where you avoid the fire pit. It took me a minute to figure out why the credits hadn't rolled and then another minute to figure out how to get out of there because the door was locked.
The optional boss Randomage in Chained Echoes has a chance to get up again after you beat him. You will most likely celebrate your victory, while you noticeing him geting up again and do an AOE attack. When I "beat" him the first time, this wiped my whole party.
Guardian Ape was the first one I thought of. When I “beat him” my husband asked if the ape was dead. I said “I think he is pretty dead. I cut his head off.” Then tried to leave and couldn’t… the pause after the first form just sells the fake out.
FTL should be on this list. By the time you get to the final boss he retreats and comes back to fight you again. In a resource management game like FTL you unleash all your probes and missiles at him. He’s fully rearmed and repaired while you’re basically without any weapons with your ship on fire. I rage quit after that. I can see it working it it was on hard difficulty. This is on normal mode too.
The king of this was "Legend of Legaia", it was sooooo long, extremely underrated
I had a feeling Bode was going to betray me. It’s alright though. I was talking mad crap while fighting him😂
I had this feeling when I was at the end of kotor 2, man I don't know, I did not expect it to go the way it did. Amazing game.
When I started this video, all I could think of was the Guardian Ape from Sekiro. And you did not disappoint by at least including him. But I will concede the point to the Jedi Survivor betrayal.
Guardians of the Galaxy video game was so good and too many if you slept on it. It’s a shame we’ll never get a sequel.
I can imagine that some people never had the final fight whit warlock and closed the game before they got there
The only reason the fake KNOCKOUT didn't get me in Cuphead is because I already have the habit of moving and jumping around at the end of game levels until the game takes control from me.
I’m a little surprised we didn’t see the Just shapes and beats final boss fight, in a point in the game it makes it seem like you can’t respawn after the fight. If you keep trying then the boss just instant kills. It doesn’t roll credits but it does play a sweet animation of the characters friends trying to get a reaction from the fallen friend. It does this through the game the were it says “it’s over” to “it’s not Over”
i loved it when in mgs3 in the sorrow battle i never figured out how to revive so i believed snake is just stuck there forever, figured it out 3 years later.
I’m surprised returnals fake ending wasn’t on there that shit sent shivers down my spine one of the best fake outs I’ve ever seen imo
The soulmaster was the first boss that came to my mind ^^
Can I put a hand up for Urizen and his "complete form" in DMC5? Urizen has to be fought so many times in DMC5. Also, you technically beat the final boss with one character (which is hard enough), only for him to always add a final blow and go "Nuh uh, need two different characters to fight me one after the other in order to defeat me," before the real final level starts. It's more subtle and interesting than fighting Urizen over and over in multiple forms, but it's still there.
Legit every Zelda Game to the point its expected
I knew from the beginning that Bode would betray Cal. The entire time with him just felt off
4:43 You can even notice in the credits the name of Philippe Lussier changing to Magus. It's a bit of a clever foreshadowing.
15:07 gotta disagree with that one, from the very beginning of the game when Bode says “I’d do anything for my daughter” I knew he was gonna betray you. I figured everyone would see that coming
Love Borderlands. Very nice.
Tales of Arise is my absolute favorite you defeat all the main bosses which seems to be the entire goal of the game until you defeat them and an entirely new story emerges!
So glad i found this channel
I dont wanna get spoiled on anything so I'll leave a like and be back 😂😂
Peace Falcon🤙
Doki Doki Literature after you "defeat" Monika by removing her name in the game files and go back to the title screen to realize you absolutely didn't defeat the root of the sentience. Mind was melted afterwards
I still remember the words "When the ashes are two, a flame alighteth. Thou'rt ash, and fire befits thee, of course."
... as i got my titanite slab and wondered why i didnt get any souls for killing her. I immediately died few seconds after... but that first attack when she went "full anime" on me and flew into the air was worth dying from, it looked awesome.
I bought Guardians of the galaxy because of gameranx, and I LOVED it. Thanks.
The Sonic Adventure 2 clip had me crying… I’m bouta hook up my GameCube. 0:49
Can’t wait for CZcams to release its battle pass where you don’t get an ad between each item on a gameranx list
The Bode twist from survivor was sooo good I wasn’t expecting that at all it was a good twist
Whoa, I actually played most of these games. Normally it's a bunch of anime indie games I've never even heard of. Nice video.
Dr. Ned's little "aaaahh ah ahhh " cracks me up every time lmao.
Asura's Wrath wraps up just fine. All you have to do is not play that unnecessary final level. The level before that is where the game ends.
Falcon you brought me back by bringing up Arkham City, what a masterpiece, that game is 💎
FromSoft never stops trying to say it hates you with love 😂
Nah, I thought Bode was shifty right from the start in Jedi: Survivor. Was just waiting for him to double cross me.
Just Shapes and Beats is a better fakeout than all of these. It has 3 fakeouts. Every time you think it's over and you killed the Final Boss, IT JUST KEEPS GOING
Tears of the kingdom had me shaking when I found out there was a 4th phase after I had broken my last shield and barely managed to beat the 3rd. Thankfully, the last phase didn't need a shield.
Ocarina of Time could just as easily made this list. You beat Ganon, then you and Zelda flee his collapsing on-fire castle. The two of you take a breather outside the smoking pile of rubble, glad that the source of evil has been...what was that thumping noise? Oh, Hey Tapdancing Listen, he's 20 feet tall and has two swords now!
The fact the ape doesn’t just scream, it puts its head back on to scream. That’s sick detail.
I knew the Solomon Grundy fight wasn't going to be that easy because of Solomon Grundy's rhythm.
Solomon Grundy,Born on a Monday,Christened on Tuesday,Married on Wednesday,Took ill on Thursday,Grew worse on Friday,Died on Saturday,Buried on Sunday
Good old Street Fighter 3rd Strike trolls you at the final fight against Gil. Not only is he an extremely hard fight due to his range and elemental attacks but once you defeat him he uses his special meter to fully resurrect himself to full health.
Where's Face Raiders? That fake-out after beating the final boss's first stage will always be the best!
best gaming chanel by a mile!
Donkey Kong Country "Kredits" were the one that got me 30 years ago, lol.
Interesting thing about the Guardians one @4:45 under 'Lead Level Designers' one of the names changes to Megus. Like a small hint that something is up.
Actually "Magus" keeps showing up in various places throughout the whole "fake credits"
the third giratina phase may also count cause Giratina does the pokemon fainting animation but in the middle of it giratina basically yells "PSYYYYYCH" and wakes up again
Golden Sun's Final boss on the GBA was a good one too!!!
First game where the premise of this video was used that I ever played was definitely Star Fox 64 for me with the final boss on the 'true route' and if I'm right it even happens for the boss in the first landmaster planets boss fight too if I'm right (may be wrong...been a long time since I played the game)
Eidos Montreals Guardians of the Galaxy game is a great adaptation of the source material man
Kid Icarus for the 3Ds also had one of those credits endings but actually is no over kinda endings
@gameranx At the 1:00 minute mark, you misspelled "Intro". It says "Into". I don't typically comment on CZcams videos or on the internet in general but I love Gameranx Working there as a game reviewer or even editing would be a dream. Currently unemployed and looking for work. (Here's hoping I don't regret commenting. The internet these days...😳)
The one asking you to pay to see the end of the game is ridiculous. Imagine going to the movies, paying for your ticket, then getting to what you thought was the end only for them to announce that you have to pay another fee to see the end lol
My buddy STILL refuses to ever watch Dunkey again because of how he spoiled the Monkey boss’s fakeout in Sekiro so nonchalantly. He released that video like a couple days after the release as well.
The way this video ended, I was actually expecting some more lol
I love star wars Jedi survivor its my game of the year so far. I want a sequel in the future i loved star wars Jedi fallen order as well
why did I think of Asura when you mentioned number 7
lol
because yeah
it has fake ending as well
so I am glad you mentioned Asura here 8:47
lol
( Edit : I didn't reach the spider thing at the end
I don't know how to reach it though )
What about Starscourge Radahn from Elden Ring? You fight him, he gets into his second phase, then suddenly jumps up, music stops. Then he comes down on you like a fucking meteor. Literally.
Guardian Ape and Sister Friede are the two most memorable bosses in any game I've ever had the pleasure to suffer. There are a couple better fights in Sekiro but Friede is the very best of all Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3.
I loved the twist in Jedi Survivor! It was one of those "oh shit" moments!
GTA Vice City when you complete what you’d think was the final mission and the game gives you no indication that you need to buy every business and complete their tasks to unlock the actual final mission.
Star wars Jedi survivor I was so shocked and my husband was watching me play so I was sitting there texting him what happened and I normally don't do that. I recorded some of the end fights and scenes so he could see them. I loved the twist for the last boss.
Ahh i love the guardian ape. Whenever a gaming list needs an entry, you can always count on having a way to shimmy it in as one
They always return to monke?
The Guardian Ape has actually 4 phases. After beating the Guardian Ape, you unlock the Headless Ape in the Ashina Depths.
I love Marvel's guardians of the galaxy i want a sequel in the future
The Dracula fight in the Castlevania dlc for Dead Cells has a pretty good fake out
For me, the first and most effective was Resident Evil 3 (the original). You spend all this time trying to get to the rescue chopper, only for Nemesis to show up after a brutal defeat and blow the chopper up. Game over? How about game just beginning!
I refused to play Asura's Wrath specifically for the "You need to buy DLC to see the ending" BS. Everyone who did buy it (and did buy the DLC): Thank you for showing publishers that you'll put up with literally ANYTHING...
