    For number 10, it just occurred to me that Ellie does the exact same thing that the NPCs do when they beg for mercy, TWICE. She gets curbstomped, gets spared, then when she’s free she just bumrushes back after them. And then she does it again. She’s that NPC. Almost makes me wonder if that’s what they intended when they put in that mechanic.

    In Final Fantasy 6, showing mercy to Lone Wolf can get you a Gold Hairpin but screws you out of recruiting Mog. You should never show mercy to anyone holding cute cuddly creatures hostage in the first place!

    • @azalago
      @azalago Před 10 měsíci +7

      It's less a case of showing mercy and more a case of choosing who to save, Lone Wolf or Mog. Lone Wolf falls either way and ends up surviving, you just don't get the relic if you choose to save Mog. The worst part is the Gold Hairpin is extremely useful since it halves the MP cost of all magic spells.

    • @shenloken2
      @shenloken2 Před 10 měsíci +4

      It can be countered though when you get the Celestiad from a Brachiosaur reducing MP cost to 1. They’re somewhat hard to get but thankfully with a good team setup these enemies fall rather easily.

    Fun fact: You don't have to shoot Wrex, you could simply decide to never talk to him since he is the only one that is not forced upon to become a crew member you unlike Garrus or Tali. Part 2 and 3 then simply progress the same way as when Shephard respectively Ashley) kills him. Furthermore if you decide to destroy Malon's data in part 2, you then can convince Mordin in part 3 to play along with the betrayal of the krogans (because Eve being dead and Wreav being a maniac) and he will actually not sacrifice himself, but rather work just pretend to die and move on to work on the Crucible.

    Not sure if these count but in Dragon Age 2 if you show Marethari mercy during the quest A New Path then you'll have to fight the boss again with Merrill injured because Marethari stabs her, though the boss will only have 1/3 of the health it had instead of full health. Also in Fallout 4 if you spare Danse during Blind Betrayal, then any time you have Danse as your companion the Brotherhood of Steel will attack you on sight.

    With The Last of Us Part 2 they could have EASILY made that game mechanic matter. Have Ellie show mercy throughout the game, and the ending makes sense. Have her ruthlessly murder everyone.. get an ending where her rage, and hatred consumed her. Which could have made the game way better better.

      TLOU is not a choice game. Its about the characters and their emotional complex...this mechanic they could have dropped it. It messes with the dehumanization aspect of factions in the story, but other than that, i have no problem with it. It rarely happens...

    Regarding that first one with Last of Us Pt 2.
    In Call of Duty WWII's campaign, there will be moments where the Nazi soldiers will actually SURRENDER and the game actually suggests that you just take them in and capture them, instead of well...gun down a soldier, (even if it's a Nazi), who is surrendering. If you capture them, you don't get a bullet in the back for it. In fact I think the game sort of rewards you in some capacity for doing that. (Like an achievement maybe, it's been years).

    The mercy situation in TLOU2 doesn't just make the contrived story even more contrived but is inherently contrived itself because the game doesn't give you the option to take their weapons. It means either Ellie is an idiot who spares heartless terrorists without taking their weapons or she uses basic common sense by just killing them but gets portrayed as a monster by the story for doing it.

    For Mass Effect I would go with sparring the geth in legion's loyalty mission. Might seems good giving a massive amount of geth time to rethink their actions and even make sense if you know about the reaper invasions to spare them since then there would be millions more geth to fight the reapers but instead they rejoin the reapers in ME3 and are 1 of the 2 strikes you have for getting both the geth and quarian support.
