I am 74 y.o. I loved this singer and this song when I was young. Today, it holds a much, much deeper meaning of new love and the bruising of love lost.
I am 73 years old and Ricky Nelson has been my favorite music artist since I was a young teen ager and still is. I have kept every album he put out, I also watched every show that was on TV.
I am also, im.78 have his music, that I cherish. Watching THEIR TV show and when he started singing on it, my friends and I went all in for Ricky. His face, his eyes, his charm I love his music always have. Always underrated. Garden Party was telling it like it was, one of my favorites.
It's hard to believe that "popular" music has sunk so low today from the level of this song from 1963. And Ricky was one of the best rockers around. I know 'cause I was there.
What is amazing and younger generation don't know this - He loved to imitate Elvis when he was young and I read that he eventually met him several times and Elvis admitted that he use to watch Ricky's show on TV for many years. Amazing both admiring each other. Wow!
He said in a Variety interview that Ozzy told him his solo in this song reminded him of great sax player band mate from his band leader days. I really only came here in search of that solo. A lot of times the real talent is literally and figuratively behind the front man.
Everything about this is great: fantastic chord progression, James Burton smoking on the Telecaster, Ricky Nelson's vocals and the "Papa Gene's Blues" percussion vibe.

I was a toddler, but I remember him and I always had a crush on him, too. I remember my aunt had a crush on him, too. She would of been in gradeschool when this song came out, I believe. That's how I knew about this rock sensations because when she came over to visit, we always watched the music shows that were on.
He died 34 years ago today. One very sad New Years Eve. He would be 79 years old. Hard to believe. He will always be that young handsome guy who could sing up a storm. You are so missed Mr. Nelson!

When I saw Jared Leto in "My So-Called Life", he reminded me so strongly of Ricky Nelson. My sister and I grew up watching the Nelson Family, with Ricky understandably being one of our first crushes. What a beautiful, talented man he was! At least we have so much to remember him by.

I agree with you..I grew up in this era also, want to and am bringing some of this great music to the stage at a place we opened here in Pueblo CO.. I do some Ricky Songs, Fats, Jim Reeves..This was a great time in history and I have many fond memories of these times. Now some of the young people here are getting a chance to hear what this type of music sounded like with a fender telecaster, a standup bass and piano. We had a great crowd Friday night.

six years ago when my daughter was pregnant we were watching a rerun of Rick on Saturday Night Live. We both commented on how handsome she was. I told her Rick's real name is Eric...so that is how she named her son my grandson Eric.
