  • A 9 lb batch of Silver streamer stars being mixed and cut. 6 % Dextrin was used as the binder and the batch wetted wth approx 17% plain water (no alcohol added).
    After a dry putty consistency is obtained the composition is pressed and 'slapped' into Teak wood frames 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 inch high. A mesh screen is pushed into the composition to imprint a grid as an aid to cutting the cubes to the correct size.
    The cut cubes are laid out on a window screen and dried in a warm breezy place out of direct sunlight. This type of star with it's high Charcoal content can take up to 2 weeks to fully dry.

    This was a great video, the screen on top to mark where to cut was a really smart idea!

    Can I dust my tiger tail stars with meal powder to aid in cutting and drying, my 1/4 inch stars stick to everything, I have the darnedest time keeping nice straight rows like yours. Love the classical music in your video, I've found it to be very calming while working with the various steps of firework crafting. Thanks

      Yes dusting them in Meal is a great idea to stop them sticking together. If they are sticking badly they are probably a little too wet. only takes a tablespoon too much water to go from just right to too wet. Glad you like the music.

    Hey Paul, did you pre-treat those Teak wood frames with a water proofing compound or something similar?

    Do you think drying times would be longer due to the high humidity in Thailand?

    • @BangkokPyroHolidays
      @BangkokPyroHolidays  Před 8 lety

      yes everything take longer to dry in high humidity conditions. I dry B.P, stars, pasted shells everything outside. Just need a breeze and time. Pasted shell I dry in full sunlight everything else in the shade.

    Ok I have to say it.. I love your videos, very educational, one of the best channels I have found in fact. but you never show the finished product. Try to at least open up with a sample of what the result is.

      Thanks Hydrus. A lot of the shells i made are shown in various shoot event videos. it's often difficult to just make something and go out and shoot it.
