@alanator25 Thanks! Fewer and fewer factories are making things by hand due to the rising cost of labor (it's changing REALLY fast over there). The WASP does a good job for what it is (a small batch/hobbyist machine), it's just not geared toward high speed/volume production ... wasn't designed in the mass production environment of China.
Great video Tasick! You hear they make these alot by hand but you never see a good video of the machines. That snap-and-pop machine is awesome. The shell pasting machine looks like it would produce a more even break than the wasp. I guess the weak spots on the top and bottom the machine doesn't get don't matter much.
@wavemanwt That was one of the first questions I asked when I was shooting the video. As you can see briefly in the video, they fill the "poles" of the shell in with a sort of wheat paste slurry and then cover it with a bit of tape. When it hardens it seals up those areas. As to the quality of the shells done this way, they have some of the most consistently round breaks that i've seen out of China ... with the exception of ultra high quality (and ultra expensive) brands like Yung Feng.
thanks for the great video, it provides a lot of insight as to how the machines work. The shell pasting machines are pretty ingenius. I don`t know how the water manages to stay in the tape wetting station on the first one though ;)
@NewBenne No time at all! Just go over there, find a factory and tell them you want firecrackers. Not all factories make firecrackers but it's a small community so if one factory does not, they will know someone who will.

@colspyro Thanks for the complement! The tape is actually just plain paper and the hopper is filled with a thick white glue that won't run out as the machine is in motion. Another viewer asked for a little more video of the large pasting machine so I uploaded another video which shows off a few more details, including how the tape is loaded into the glue hopper. I'll link it in the description.

+jujustar11 It is required for workers to apply pasted paper in between the time fuses to ensure the entire shell is pasted. The shell pasting machines cannot do this part because they would apply pasted paper over the fuses.
@xThizu No. Part of the reason why machines are needed is because many of the fireworks factory workers have left those jobs in favor of cleaner, safer and higher paying jobs with pharmaceutical companies that operate in the same region. The fireworks factories actually can't find enough workers and the machines help to pickup the slack while improving quality and reducing costs. In the end, it's a good thing.

On the pasting machine at the end of the video...How are the openings (where the machine spidles held the shell) sealed? It seems to me that it would make the top and bottom of the casing into weak points. It appears they used some sort of clay filling and a single layer of paper and paste to close them up. Thanks!

Everything about this green machine is very very rough. All of the panels are hand cut and not cleaned up. I'm not even sure what this machine does!
