I remember watching my dad play this when I was a kid when we first got a PS1. I didn't understand why he loved it so much back then, but I'm glad I became a man and played the 2022 Remaster!! The nostalgia is crazy.
Holy crap, you really captured the PS1 style down to every little detail. From the changing camera angles, even to the way the player model crumples and stands back up. Aaah, and the nostalgia I felt at the sound of the player's running foot steps. It's strange to say I felt nostalgia for a game I've never played, but it really shows just how well you studied the formula. Well done.

I would actually play this beginning to end if this was a full on game. Such awesome level of detail and I like how blocking is actually a good tactic in this version
Blocking is very good in Elden Ring and even comes with a counter mechanic that can do tons of poise damage to stun enemies. Just get a shield with 100 phys negation and you're set. Then if you can get one that comes with the skill to enhance your shield, you can basically block every attack in the game with little to no damage and without worrying about your stamina being broken.

one detail i really loved was how the player was completely still before doing the jump, showing how much they were concentrating on the timing, nice video!
This is actually amazing. I think the pre-rendered, fixed-camera backgrounds do the souls games more atmosphere justice than other souls demake styles I've seen.
Amazing! These fixed camera angles in a boss fight make for a more impressive scene in a way, as they always make the player seem small by comparison and there's a strong sense of being trapped in the room with the boss.. This is more than just a demake, it's an interpretation. Love it!!
Exactly why I moan when they don't do this as part of the design its very Cinematic in style , many games of this era took advantages of that and I feel Because it takes a film directors mentality mixed into makes a fairly complex way of making games in this way , more vision is required in way
@@masontrevelyan2254 the original silent hill on ps1 is probably one of the best examples, the cinematography of that game is beautiful and unreal. Especially for the time and medium, you never saw angles like that in video games. And it isnt just random because its cool, it always serves to enhance the mood. The alleyway sequence here is probably the best example, its unreal how cool and creepy it is, especially for the time. Maybe you havent played many ps1 games but i have a massive collection i still play regularly and them regularly and prerendered backrounds and fixed camera angles were very common on the PS1 and even still used on the PS2 and Dreamcast in a number of genres (action/RPG/Survival Horror). He wasnt making a video of every possible way a game could be made, this is just one guys take on how this game could have looked on the PS1. Image if he didnt make it with gixed camera angles and i said "i guess he forgot not every single game on the PS1 had a camera that followed you" it would just be pointless and stupid because his aim was never to show every camera technique employed over the entire consoles generation.

This actually looks incredible, and to see this kind og game reimagined with the RE-style camera angles actually suits the charm of this franchise very well.
This is honestly the best PS1 demake of any videogame! Most of these just take the PS1 graphics and kinda run with it, but this really captures what a PS1 game played like, from the pre-rendered backgrounds, the animations, the camera angles… it’s truly perfect! :)
This looks like an actually phenomenal game. The ps1 camera here seemed like a huge challenge but not one that was insurmountable paired with the boss behavior, and the angles were well chosen.

Incredibly well done, I love how well the gameplay adhered to the ps1 format. The only complaint if there was one, that loading bar, it's not nearly chunky enough for that era of gaming. It should be either really chunky/amost 3d in it's design or EDGY because that's how it goes. Regardless, I loved it. I would totally play this. Great job!

I'm happy to know that there's people that remember the existence of the "Vampire Hunter D" videogame for PS1. This demake is very great done in feels, and fits too well. This is awesome! Congrats!
Can you imagine if there really were games like this at that time... It's just crazy how drastically gameplay mechanics and the overall direction of video games have evolved. The beautiful thing is that today the layman can create a work that is graphically and tonally reminiscent of that nostalgic time that was such a near and dear part of many people's childhood while being able to bring to them modern innovations that have in many cases made gaming a deeper and more engaging experience. I love seeing a person's talent being channeled through that early sense of wonder and the experience of being absorbed in a new and fantastic world as a child with an innocent and open imagination. Nostalgia can be a powerful resource to tap into for a developer.
The only thing to make this an absolute masterpiece would be to simulate PS1's affine texture mapping on the 3D models. I need that wiggly wobbly in my life.

These camera angles give me nightmares. I literally have dreams at night where I’m playing a modern racing simulator in chase cam and I get these old resident evil camera angles and the car drifts further and further into the horizon as I still have to make precise turns.

Aside from imagining it to be like Nightmare Creatures on the actual PS1, I'd imagine it'll also have some puzzle elements like the OG ResidentEvils as well, because of the maze like nature of Yharnam. I know there's already a Bloodbourne PSX demake, but it'll also be nice to see your spin on it lol!

it's nothing without the steady fill of the load bar until you get to about 90%, then it slows to a crawl as it laughs at your impatience.
Not to mention that very annoying camera angel changes, really takes me back
