    Under Lampard, Chelsea looked dishevelled and unorganised, particularly in the defence, which saw them concede 77 goals in 57 Premier League matches.
    Yet with Tuchel in charge, Chelsea have become European Champions, runners-up in the FA cup and finished 4th in the league in the 2020/21 season.
    JJ Bull explains how Tuchel transformed this Chelsea side into title contenders both on and off the pitch.
    Read these fantastic articles by Simon Johnson and Raphael Honigstein for more details behind the transformation:

  • @effingright3045
    @effingright3045 Před 2 lety +563

    There's such a fine line between a toothless attack, based on cross-and-pray football that leaves the backline exposed, and TT's devastating transitional play. They're essentially the same formation/strategy yet somehow Tuchel download the critical nuances into his player's heads that allows them to play a bit more quickly and with greater cohesion. I guess that "cutting-edge" that separates good players from great players holds true for coaches as well. TT has the sauce!

He laid the foundations for Tuchel to come in and take the team to the next level. TT himself credited Lampard for his rebuild work. If Sarri had stayed we would have been screwed. Tuchel on the other hand has a more fluid situational attacks with clever movement and and quick play. he attacks through the middle, wings through balls and counter. struggled with the finishing last year but this year i don't think he will be having such a problem. Pedro declined so much in Conte's second season and Willian playing out wide slowing down all their attack. I feel like Hazard should have been supported with better players who can play around him, and a more attacking set up in his last 3 seasons, rather than minimizing the teams role to the point he ends up being their only salvation.

    The biggest difference is players actually like Tuchel.
    Appreciate his tactical nous and embrace his in-game management.
    Lampard froze out:
    Rudiger
    Christensen
    Alonso
    Jorginho
    All have been 1st team regulars under Tuchel.
    He also fell out with Tomori, (who was sold for peanuts and has been solid for Milan)
    Oh, and he also played Havertz in a double pivot which basically amounts to a 'War crime' and one of the many reasons why no top side has come in for Lampard.

    • @dzemilmehovic5271
      @dzemilmehovic5271 Před 2 lety

      yea he bought Werner and Havertz but was clueless and didnt know where to play them, he ruined last season for them by using them poorly, i mean Havertz at midfield pivot, Werner as winger??? Then ppl wonder why they were meh under him. They both became beasts again when TT came, and while Werner has confidence issues with finishing, in other aspects he actually improved in other aspects and plays much better than he did at Leizig

      Poor man management from Lampard and lost the dressing room. I always stood by the fact that he was far too inexperienced to keep the job. He’ll make a good manager in the future when he gains experience.

    • @youngrichie
      @youngrichie Před 2 lety

      @@user-bt6sr8kt9t I'm not so sure. Even the most die-hard Lampard fans were amazed at his lack of tactics, especially defensively. This was a guy that played under Ancelotti, Mourinho and Hiddink. His man-management was arguably worse. Lampard's misgivings have been found out at the top level, so it's really back to the Championship and learn on the job (that's if his ego will allow him to do so)

      Though Chelsea's transfer system is a tripartite agreement between Granovskaia, Cech and the current manager. The latter vetoing Lampard's request for Rice, given....well a midfield of Kantè, Jorginho, Kovacic, all of whom took their game to new heights once Lampard left.

    The thing which gets unnoticed is that most of his players are very young so that helps tuchel as they can quickly cover the ground to close the counter attacks and specially the workrate of azpli,rudiger,James and yess kante.
    The way to counter TT team's is overload one side of the field then make a quick switch to the other side and quick wingers can do them damage.
    Also the other way is to play central 1-2 passes as we can see the game against Villarreal.

    Tuchel came in when Chelsea were in 9th place but people always fail to understand the real story is they were only 4 points off the CL spots. They were playing a more physically demanding style which hit them at the most congested part of the most congested season in history but before that Xmas period they had a 17 game unbeaten run. Lampards Chelsea was judged by the normal circumstances of a normal season. Lampard is known for pragmatism. He was clear in playing to develop the team for the longer term so didn't want to stop them mastering that more intense attacking style for short term gains. Tuchel came in when the fixture congestion had cleared up. Both did a great job and Lampard deserves better recognition than that whole 9th place narrative.

Remember early in the season when there was a huge space left between MF and defence and Sarri implored the defense to step up and move along with MF (while attacking)and the attack to move along the MF [while defending]
    This job was way too early for Frank and it showed in the second season.
