It didn't work next season cos Morata couldn't occupy defenders, thats y Conte wanted lukaku so bad. In Tuchel system, its more about possession and Reece and Chillwell keeps pressing the wingers, mount and kante keep pressing the midfield and Werner despite missing chances drags out the defenders which creates gap in the middle for Havertz/Pullisic/Ziyech whoever playing. @@rickygervaissaidhi2524 playing from the back is the most important transformation between these two teams. While you mentioned a very important issue, the other one is jorgi based playing from the back with consistently fresh wbs. Conte suffered heavily due to the speed of wbs in 2nd season also. Tt played azpi,Emerson, cho, Ben,Alonso,RJ in wbs in less then half season which not only created a cohesive environment in the dressing room (same with wingers), but gave speed down the flanks constantly. You can study pep's utilization of rotating flanks. I knew conte was doing that wrong and the board also didn't back him. Klopp is the most cunning of them all , he literally uses cup games to freshen up in between. But I predicted the uprising and downfall correctly for him. I am highly waiting for what will he do next ? Tried to push youth /stamina already last season (Chelsea's lamps formula) . But I highly doubt the consistency with the quality. Chessboards doesn't count fitness unfortunately.

    Great video!
Both Conte & Tuchel are implement “positional play” in their systems, but the difference was in their use of possession. Conte’s attack focused more on automatisms and pre-planned attacking moves and we saw this consistently with the way hazard, costa and Pedro linked up.
Tuchel’s attack hasn’t fully clicked, but is more fluid and highly flexible with constant rotations among the forward players. On paper, Conte’s 343 is quite rigid and turns into a 325 in attack as a basic 343 would. Tuchel’s 343 is flexible with Mount & Havertz being key to that tactical flexibility.
Both hybrid players, Mount can perform as either a no.8/no.10 while Havertz can also play as a no.9/10. Tuchel’s 343 can seamlessly transition into a 352 with mount dropping into the midfield to form a trio with Jorginho and Kante as Werner & Havertz reposition to form a front two if the need arises during a game.
Tuchel’s versatility means Chelsea can be adaptable and can move between a 343 and 352 without having to make a substitution while Conte’s was more rigid.
In my opinion, Tuchel has more aces up his sleeve because he isn’t wedded to the 343 like Conte and could also lineup Chelsea in a back 4 next season. Tuchel said “he will build a team that no one wants to play against” and if winning the UCL is the starting point for this team, the potential is truly scary under Tuchel.
    Great analysis once again!

TT has the benefit of a very bloated squad to select from as another way of stating he has a lot of aces up his sleeve. Head to head, I would give the edge to Conte due to him having Costa as a trump card.
Hopefully, TT can get a striker like Costa was into the squad and be all the better for for it. With the way our board operates however, it’s never a guarantee that they’ll back any manager.

I can't say its superior, cause that 2016/17 side was one of the best Chelsea sides I have seen, if only Costa and Matic(his partnership with Kante was perfect) stayed with Chelsea , then it would ve been a 3 horse race between Chelsea ,Liverpool and City in the past 4 seasons

Conte is a master at this formation and has gotten it to work very well for multiple teams while also adapting to their strengths and weaknesses. Tuchel, on the other hand, tries too hard to modernize this formation through the constant rotation among the players' positions at the front and that had created more problems for Chelse than it did good.

This is fascinating to look back on now that Conte's at Spurs, still playing with two more defensive minded midfielders but with Kane and Son in place of Costa and Hazard, which means subtle changes in style. Next season will be really interesting.

I think we can also add Alonso as a player who featured under both managers. Chilwell is for the long term but Alonso is a tremendous LWB who causes a lot of problems for opposition defences with his raids forward. The signing of Lukaku gives us another dimension in unlocking deep defensive systems.

To be fair I've seen Christensen doing what D.Luiz used to do specially when the opposition was focusing more on Jorginho.
Also I'm sure that Matic was more rigid and stayed back in comparison to Kante just like Jorginho stays more back while Kante has more freedom.

I think tuchel is more flexible in term pf formation. At dortmund, 4-2-3-1, at psg 4-2-3-1/4-3-3/3-4-3 and at chelsea, mostly with 3-4-3 and sometimes they play 3-5-2.. while conte is pure believer in 3 at the back with 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 (inter)..

Maybe you could make comparison with Conte's 3-4-2-1 Spurs in 2022/23 season. I think he did look back at his Chelsea time to make the team presently.
Dier is trained to be the ball carrier and passer like Luiz.
Hojbjerg is trained in that Matic role as he's more adventurous going up.
Bentancur is acting like the disruptor.
Son is given the Hazard role
Though Kane is still played like in times with Jose.

I liked Conte's side better because of the verticality in attack, use of a more rigid front 3 and the style of defending.

Reece James will likely play RCB. Its already been reported that's where Tuchel envisions him.
Tuchel also has no problem using attacking wings if his two pivot-6's are defensively resolute. Pulisic and CHO have both played in those outside slots normally reserved for James/Azpi/Chilwell/Alonso.
