Instead of handing out candy this halloween I decided to hand out some toasty goodness. I got shirts, hoodies, and tanktops ready to hand out tonight. Stay toasty yall
Sweet Christmas, that's an expensive night! Hope you got a great deal over at DTMerch.com for all those toasty presents you will be giving.
@@matthewfifer6885 Ive been prepping for it like all year lol
Your house is gonna get TP'd, my guy.
I thought Rami Malek did his very best as Freddie and that the actors who portrayed Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon really looked like the actual band members, but I was severely bothered by how they messed with the timeline in real significant ways, especially the AIDS diagnosis, that's a damn big thing to lie about and takes a lot away from it.
amn big
Martin is right about Freddie's diagnosis. I remember watching a documentary where it was stated he had vocal cord nodules at the time and his doctor advised against performing at Live Aid but he did it anyway.
I have my favorite critics but I swear man these guys I have the most fun with. Wish I can meet the Toasty crew in real life, it would be fun to hang out with them.
Subscribe to their website and you can
@@condorgaming4000 I've been subscribe to them for few years now. I knew them since they were on Spill.
That’s the thing, you can meet them! If you’re ever in Austin just message them and you can be in their studio during one of their shows or keep up with their website when they do their yearly meet and greets weekend fan meet ups in major cities.
@Dark Scorpion The Rogue Broadcast
Haha same here, I've been a fan since the "Spill" days too.😎
So you're saying I should just stay home and listen to my Queen albums. Sounds like I'll get the same experience without having to pay for a theater ticket.
Albums are a better experience. Shit, try out Brittany Murphy's cover of Somebody to Love in Happy Feet. A movie about dancing penguins with more nuance.
I feel like the only reason they felt the need to have Mike Myers in the movie was because of the resurgence of Bohemian Rhapsody after the release of Wayne's World
What's weird, though, is that, in the trailers, he sounds like Fat Bastard or Shrek
@@MrAspiringactor That is weird, but I guess they wanted his signature voice lol
@@IvanMartinez-hm9pn Well at least ONE of his signature voices.
Ivan Martinez His cameo was great.I loved it.
It must have been such a dream for him to be in the movie 😁😁 I’m glad he got the chance.
First Mistake: Making a movie about Freddie Mercury Rated PG-13 when it deserves to be Rated R.
Second Mistake: Bryan Singer as the Director.
Wait, why was it a mistake to make it PG-13?
@@CUniverse I don't think it was a mistake, I personally think it worked for how the movie was presented, and they do get serious and dramatic even under the rating, as far as Bryan Singer, that's fairly debatable
If they wanted to introduce Queen to a whole new generation, making it R rated wouldn't help.
@@Vincent_Luciano_Simpson I think it depends on what aspects of his life you focus on and how you're portraying those things you mentioned. An R rating doesn't denote quality or uniqueness. It's just a rating that's assigned somewhat inconsistently by the MPAA. Not everything has to be Wolf of Wall Street. These days, I don't really even pay much attention to the rating of a movie. It's not like I'm subject to any age restrictions anymore.
It`s not bad
29:03 What?!! NO FLASH GORDON?!!! He'll Save everyone of us, Martin!!!! LOL!!!
Didn't see that moment coming. But that was crazy.
Coming from a big Queen fan, you guys voiced every issue I had with this movie
I need to listen to soundcloud to know why Korey randomly sings " Honey MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD"
It's obvious
9:45 I knew this would happen. It just looks like someone doing like an SNL impression of Freddie Mercury.
Can't stop thinking of what a Sacha Baron Cohan would have done with this film
He is alive right?
If the script was bad, then nothing.
He would've fucked it up.
He wanted an Adult version where the actual star was Freddie (he was of course) and go into the inner workings of the band. The band said no, so this is what we get. I haven't and am not going to see it, just watched toasty review and they confirmed everything i already thought this movie was going to be. Fking 2hrs worth of Lies and fluff.
I can only imagine what Ozzy Osbourne biopic is going to be like.
Sacha Baron Cohan would've been way too tall.
the whole review had me cracking up! Good gracious! 😂😂😂
Bohemian Rhapsody is about the stages of death denial, bargaining, anger, and acceptance. When someone asks what it's about it's easier to say "nothing."
I personally didn't have a problem with the teeth. I've watched tons of interviews of Freddie and he's constantly trying to hide them. You can tell he's insecure and I thought Rami did an amazing job portraying that. And Freddie wasn't as flamboyant off stage as he was on, he was really shy. So Freddie was a kind of "smoked out" version of his on stage persona.
Great review though, you guys are hilarious!
Honestly, that's pretty goddamn disrespectful for the rest of the band to hijack the narrative of their story like that at Freddie's expense. I'm only a casual Queen fan, and even *I* know that Live Aid performance happened long before Freddie was diagnosed with HIV. Hell, they could have ended on a far better dramatic note out of Freddie having to film that music video for "These Are the Days of Our Lives" a few months before he passed, even though he was physically wasting away at the time and had to be shot in black-and-white to cover up his deterioration. That moment helps summarize how brave and bold Freddie Mercury was as an artist, even as he was on the verge of death. Now I know why Sacha Baron Cohen turned this shit down, good for him.
Jesse Shade The movie is awesome. I saw it with my mom in IMAX. We both love Queen and we loved it. Everyone in the theater loved it.My mom talked about a documentary about Queen that Freddie help make. I want to see that to compare but I love the movie.
i dont think they need to end it sadly, the way the end is good enough
How did it end?? My friend and I walked out near the end to catch a screening of mid90's.
I miss Goodwin and grits, but honestly do not miss Danielle at all. Mia is a much better replacement.
lol...grits.
None of these match the classic spill foursome.
shakezilla29 we not disrespecting Danielle
@@Mrforever34 DANIELLE SUCKED
shakezilla29 I kinda miss just for her dumb comments
Y'all voiced the feelings that I couldn't figure out lmao. As a big music fan, I had fun during the movie, but walked out very angry for no reason. Great show, and I have just subscribed!
I think rocket man will be better since I know Elton probably had his hands in it .
So this is why Sascha Baron Cohen dropped out of the project.
He is probably going: "See? I told you so!"
yakuza01
....And "Watch my political satire 'Who Is America?' instead. It's much better. My targets' reactions are more authentic." :D
He wanted to show the more outrageous stuff that went on sex, drugs etc. The existing members of the band did not.
Well the rest of the band pretty much hijacked the script and narrative so its ovbious that they did not wanted sascha to go deep in stuff that could make the other memebers look bad.
Val Kilmer portraying Jim Morrison In The Doors (1991) director Oliver Stone now that was the shit right there. An amazing achievement of the band. Also back in the mid 1960's early 70's
How do people not know who Queen is? That's like not knowing who Beethoven or Mozart are.
It’s like he said. A lot of ppl knew the songs but didn’t know who sang them. I for one knew about bohemian rhapsody bc of Wayne’s world but I wasn’t aware they also did another bites the dust, we are the champions or we will rock you.
I meek to a of people who barely listen to music made *five* years ago, so it’s more common than you would think. Also, certain genres just don’t touch certain people.
In my family, I was the only one listening to rock compared to the rap and R&B favored by my family.
Martin with The Batman mustache
I actually watched the movie last night and really liked it. But admittedly one of the biggest things that kept my enjoyment up were the songs. The Live Aid scene was beyond fantastic too but it was amped up by the lie that he had been diagnosed prior to the concert.
And I was at home last night when I was thinking of all the Queen songs I knew and thought “Wait a minute. WHERE WAS FLASH?!”
Another thing I found was in error was the timeline for We Will Rock You. In the movie, it shows as being constructed in 1980, when Freddie had already cut his hair. The song was recorded in 1977...when his hair was still long. You can search for the video they recorded back then to see. But Martin is wrong about being diagnosed 3 years after Live Aid, but not by much. The concert was in July 1985. It was officially announced in 1987 that he was diagnosed with AIDS. But there were reports in the British press in 1986 that he had been tested for HIV; but Freddie just denied it. No one will ever know when he truly found out. But yes the movie took liberties by showing that he announced to the band before Live Aid that he has AIDS, which didn't happen. But Brian May talked about this before that he did in fact hold a meeting with the band to tell them and didn't want it brought up again afterwards. Is this movie formulaic? Yes, but so are most bio pics, especially about musicians. I wasn't looking for an Oscar caliber movie. This was a feel good, crowd pleasing movie and I enjoyed it. But I can't deny the writing is sloppy, which probably has alot to do with the change in lead actor and directors and the studio rushing the project through anyway.
Sure definitely, I'm right there with you in all the points you made, although I don't know about the actual events and how they were supposed to look like, there were times in the dates that got me confused while watching the movie, one particular scene that left me wonder its time
another bites the dust
@HalaL bun*
@HalaL Juan
You had one comment to do.
killer queen
Is that a jojo reference
I really think you guys are being too hard on this movie. It wasn’t that bad and it a biopic that Brian and Roger were consultants on. They knew Freddie much better than we did. They did show his struggles, his vulnerabilities, his demons. I agree about the teeth. Rami looked like he was struggling with those 😒😐
Susan Ortiz only good thing about the film was the last 20 min.
22:46 in terms of star power. Brian May is like white Jimi Hendrix, that's how highly i think of him.
That’s why the movie is named after the song, because it’s mostly about their greatest hits and stage presence. It’s not really all about their personal lives.
“DEM TEETH” 😂😂😂😂
Just so you know how right you are Martin, Brian May had a solo album released before Freddie even recorded his!
Another day of toasty goodness 🎃🔥
All over our bodies.
Alll ova mah booooooooodaayyyy
You guys are geniuses, NEVER STOP.
I don't mind this as much as the DT crew, but I did have a big issue with how obviously dramatized it was. If nobody in this is going to act and speak like a real person, I don't understand why they made it about a real band.
Love queen, love rami, everything in this review. Yup. Hit the nail on the head. Minimal character development and nothing genuine. Forced through and through.
My expectations were low going into to see this film. As a fan of Queen I wanted the music and the band. I did not expect to see the best bio-pic of the decade. I did like Rami Malek in this part, everyone else was more background than fully developed characters. However I wonder what this movie would have been like, with a different director and Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead.
I don't think it needed to be the best biopic ever, not needed to be a masterpiece, though yeah, some of the characters were almost background
Freddie did constantly lick his teeth.
And he also threw around a lot of "daarling"s. He toned down his flamboyance in interviews, but yeah, he was quite flamboyant and stereotypical gay.
Please refrain from Vanilla Ice references.
5:49 don't look now Martin but Freddy Mercury is haunting you
Very pleased with this review. You gentlemen really nailed it.
ROFL horse eating peanut butter +
Sprouting wings like Tinkerbell
Classic!
My mom & I are HUGE Queen fans!!! My mom saw Queen live in the early 80’s & I grew up with their songs! We know Bohemian Rhapsody by heart! Can’t wait to see the movie! #Queen
Didn't Roger Taylor make a solo album in the 80's?
Yes and it was NEVER a problem for any of the members to make their own album on the side and still make music for Queen. Thats why fans are outraged by it. Rami was ok but i dont blame him. Like they said in the video, the writers did him like that.
Yes and so did Brian May and it wasn't even an issue
@@nicolefornuto7177 You're right. The Star Fleet Project, with the late great Eddie Van Halen on guitar.I TOTALLY forgot about that.I remember watching the video on MTV in the early '80's.
HAHA Martin sounded like the Director at 15:41 "Teeth!" (Rami Malek looks at Martin and hides his teeth).
Everyone was saying how great this movie was, and I felt bad for thinking the opposite. I agree with all the points you guys brought up
I must admit, you guys are right. I left the cinema thinking wow, I love it. But it was because of the music. But I still think you should go, if you love their music. Don't expect a master piece, but a good popcorn movie!
4:00 AM, Oh Boy! Double Toasted
What they didn't do flash soundtrack? Man
This must be one of your best reviews guys..love it
They should have cast Hila Klein as freddie
Did Brian May and Roger Taylor help with the movie? SO they should know how Freddie was.
Actually, in the end they were credited as musical consultants, though I don't think they had a major role in the making of the movie
I'm sure somebody already made this joke, but... another one bites the dust.
So what's your opinion on Queen's music from Highlander (1986)
I bought that album as soon as I heard it existed after watching the movie. It's a kind of magic. Yes, it certainly was!
Jen C Nice! I just acquired it and the mix of Michael Kamen's score and Queen's music all work great. Bet you want that New York cover extended though lol
@@NitpickCritic absolutely I wanted New York New York! One of the best movie soundtracks. And Princes of the Universe used for the also great TV series.
Jen C yeah, too bad they never completed it. but yes it was !
CLASSIC! That was my introduction to Queen when I was a kid. That New York New York cover was the shit!
As soon as Korey mentioned News of the World I immediately thought about that episode of Family Guy where that album cover scared the crap out of Stewie much to Brian’s delight.
Boehaim was good but when I looked up the actual facts on how the band was formed and the events in the movie being out of order or changed a bit to add rp the story, I can't help but still like this movie. I know nothing about Queen and this movie really captured the band. I especially liked how the actor playing Brian May actually looked like him.
So... this movie glosses over all of the INTERESTING parts of Queen and Freddie Mercury's life so that everything could fit into a cookie cutter formula?
Who wants to live forever? Clearly not this movie. So, this film also glosses over Mercury's contributions to the restoration of Fritz Lang's Metropolis (which was so that he could use footage from the movie for a music video), and Queen's contributions to Flash Gordon and Highlander!?
No Princes Of The Universe or A Kind of Magic to be heard in this biopic? No FLASH, Ah~ah! No Who Wants To Live Forever? Fucking hell, man.
Also, EVERY member of the band had performed solo projects of their own and they never had a breakup from Freddie doing a solo project.
Freddie's diagnosis of AIDS also occurred well AFTER Live Aid. He died hours after performing the one-take performance of Show Must Go On, which was YEARS after Live Aid.
Basically... FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! :(
Man y’all wild hilarious from jump.
Came out too late tbh. This movie should've came out in like 03.
Gonna see he movie today, hope it's good. Great review guys!
What you thought of it?
@@Merdicano I found the movie and the story of this man amazing. To me, and I assume many others, it was a story of a man who was talented and was struggling with his sexual identity. Masking how he felt in music and delivering epic anthems along the way. His metamorphosis from what he wanted people to see him as to how he truly was made the film for me. I haven't done a review for my blog yet, but this is a solid 10 for me. What about you my friend, what did you think of the film?
@@xagonent4942 Almost the exact same thing, both story and movie were very amazing, and mainly because of the great performance by Rami Malek, in which that comes my disagreement in one of the points of DT's review, he's not a caricature nor he is flamboyant, he's portrayed rightly as a human being, only semi-effeminate, other great things about the movie were the rest of the actors that were amazing as well, the concerts recreations were magical, my only problems were on the pacing, that gets a little slow during the middle of the movie, and some of the dates of the events were a little confusing; but overall I still think its a really good movie, I can understand its divisive, but myself and others, its definitely very good straight up and down, mine is 9/10
What would Freddie mercury have thought of this movie?
Probably woulda got a good nap out of it.
Considering he was a very private person, he probably wouldn't have wanted this is the first place.
Wow you guys are way too hard on this movie! I saw it last night and I thought it was really good.
Same here, I really enjoyed it.
@@undrtakr900 Similar here as well, not a great movie (which doesn't have to be), but it was good enough to be a good rendition of Queen's music, and Rami Malek was great as Freddie Mercury
I saw this today and I fucking cried!!!! in my opinion, I loved it
Apparently Singer would bring “guests” to set and hotel rooms, would show up late to shoots so the cinematographer would have to direct scenes, and when confronted would cry. I want to see the movie about the making of this movie...
Whoa whoa whoa. They piece together good sounding words!? That song is a rock ballad of a man killing another man and fighting his way out and his turmoil.
Couldn’t disagree more with what’s said here. Think this film is as subjective as they come. In regards to the We Will Rock You part, of it didn’t go down the way it did in the film it’d be cinematically dead. You can’t have everything the way it is. You have to exaggerate to make it s better onscreen experience. I love Queen and know a lot about them and their history (something I feel you guys probably don’t barring a quick Wiki and a few interviews) so I know a lot of what happened in the film didn’t go down the way it did. But biopics especially musical ones are hard to be cinematically accurate and entertaining at the same time. The boring bits in music, rehearsals, writing etc have to be done in a better on screen portrayal than just writing in an office or studio. Thought that’d be obvious.
I agree with your opinion, myself I thought the movie was good enough to be held on it's own, only problems were yes, some of the writing issues, and I can agree definitely that not everything can look exactly accurate nor they can't please everyone, that's is something for sure
Olivia Rogers They aren’t “lying” though because they never said it was 100% factual. It’s a biopic based loosely on Queen. In the same way 8 Mile is loosely based on Eminem.
Want The full story? Watch a documentary. Read a book.
Andrew James I’m ok with making Changes if it makes the story telling better. But they made changes to make the most generic and safe story. That being said, I enjoyed the last 20 min. So people, if you want to give this movie a try, just watch the last concert.
The movie should have been about how the band came up with and composed the song Bohemian Rhapsody, the inspiration, what it is about, etc. Keep the story focused and give the audience an idea about what the band was about.
I haven't watched the movie.
Yoshikage Kira should've used Bites The Dust on the director until he made it perfect.
Either that or use Killer Queen to threaten him with explosive bubbles.
Dudes, you clearly haven't seen any old Freddie interviews. Freddie was flaming as fuck.
I am a long time big Queen fan, I know their history really well. The couple of inaccuracies weren't consequential to me. They did get alot right. I do think this movie captured Queen's spirit. Go see it in the theater, you will have a great time!
Did they touch on the Highlander soundtrack?
The new Star is Born is good but I actually like the 1976 version more.
What an insult to Queen. 😑
Jupp...
The only place where you enjoy review more then a movie
I went in with zero knowledge and zero expectations. I left the theater satisfied with the film. I liked it.
26:36 Top 10 Double Toasted Moments of all time. Couldn't stop laughing for like 5 minutes.
Good review. Those guys went into detail.
you say freddy wasnt like that but maybe the members who spent 20 years with him say he was like that
yes, thank you
Just because the members who spent 20 years with him say he was like that doesn't mean it's true. They could've easily altered it whatever they want to fit their agenda.
Ever heard of "History written by the winners"? The fact that this movie's script was hijacked the band members. Clearly they don't want bad shit that actually happened to the band leaked out even though a lot of people already aware what happened to the band for years.
@@zeroskaterz92
Can you elaborate on "what happened to the band for years"?
I'm familiar with Queen's songs but don't know anything rise about them.
@@zeroskaterz92 That's bullshit and utterly disrespectful to the members. You should be ashamed of yourself for even suggesting that you asshole.

I'm kinda feeling guilty knowing Under Pressure from Vanilla Ice first...
Same here, but I love “Under Pressure” now.
I heard the MTV Unplugged “Layla” before the original, and now can’t stand the Unplugged version.
They outta be ashamed of making His teeth that big. That looked like some Austin Powers shit. Guess I'll be seeing Halloween again this weekend...
Damn, judging by the trailers I thought this would be the "Ray" of this era. Hopefully they do a Prince bio pic better, hell BET is killing it with their bio mini series.
That's a cardinal sin if BET made this shit.
@Voodoo Ray BET has surprisingly been doing a great job with their biopics with New Edition and Bobby Brown.
I don't think Prince needs a biopic he's too unique for anyone to portray him
BET Bobby Brown biopic the actor was too good looking and never aged from late 80's to today.

@@shinjiikari1989 Hell no, absolutely not
Fellas, I enjoyed your review, and it cracked me up. However, I have to disagree with you guys. I LOVED this film. I really wanna see it again, to be honest. It's easily one of my top 10 music biopics. BTW, it's true, the movie did take a lot of creative licenses, but in truth... *all biopics do that,* and I do mean all of them. Do you remember the character Marlene in "Ray" that made Ray sleep with her in exchange for managing his career and giving him a place to stay? She never existed in real life. You remember the character Jackie that played Tina Turner's best friend in "What's Love Got to Do With It?" Never existed. Remember how Dr. Dre was basically Dudley-Do-Right in "Straight Outta Compton"? False. So yeah, despite the fact that Freddie was a little more subdued in real life, and "We Will Rock You" was actually released in the late '70s and not the early '80s, and Freddie received his HIV diagnosis in 1987 and not 1985 before the Live Aid concert, I still adored this movie, and will be purchasing it on Blu-Ray. I still loved your review, though. You guys never fail to bring good insight as well as laughs.
This kind of outlines why I don't like biopics. I much prefer documentaries or specials on VH1 and the like, at least when it comes to learning about a famous person's life.
sort of disappointed that this movie is so inaccurate and by the numbers. I used to really like Queen, but I've grown to sort of loath the band over the past few years due to the over-saturation of their songs especially Bohemian Rhapsody. I remember back in 2010-2012+ there was this commercial that used the footage from Wayne's world where they were playing Bohemian Rhapsody in the car and it would play CONSTANTLY I mean every single commercial break it would play especially on channels like cartoon network and I think that was when I started to hate the song and the band because I couldn't get away from their music, especially that song.
it's the same today as well where I can't listen to the radio without hearing "we will rock you" or Bohemian Rhapsody and I just feel so burnt out with Queen, which is a shame because their music was a part of my childhood given that my mom is a Queen fan and we would listen to their songs whenever we drove to the Oregon coast, but this over-saturation of queen- especially in recent years has just drove me away and I know people will hate me for it because Queen is such an amazing band, but I just can't help feeling that way.
That's perfectly understandable. Over-saturation can make anyone dislike a band/artist they used to love or at least lessen your interest in them. I love Queen but I have a feeling a lot of their fans are now tired of Bohemian Rhapsody being used as their staple song when they have other amazing songs in their discography.
That awkward moment when you get a Bohemian Rhapsody ad in the middle of the review. 😬
People seem to forget that Freddie Mercury was bisexual not gay. It’s just his flamboyant nature that makes people think he was full on gay when he was just bisexual.
I need a animated version of this.
I’d rather watch Freddie being interviewed, that would be better, this sounds like an extended music video.
I disagree with most of this video and you guys are nitpicking, it's not perfect but it IS the best biopic movie of a rock group I've ever seen period. I love you guys but you're way off here.
Did anyone else find Freddie's relationship with his ex extremely possessive and disturbing.
I loved it and I am going to see it again!
You guys have got to review the Lost Boys & Christine.
so, what's worse? all eyez on me or this one?
