- In this episode, we install our bug screen on the front porch and put up a birdfeeder. Work continues on the garden as we plant strawberries, herbs, rhubarb and other vegetables. We finally build a real floor on the extended portion of the cabin using treated lumber. We do some trail maintenance, and lastly we burn some old branches that have accumulated around the cabin.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.
I so enjoy watching you guys what you do together is amazing can't wait for your next video and God Bless you both
Thank you, Linda! God bless you too :)
Welcome back Nick & Maela. So nice to see you two again. Looking forward to watching what you're got for us all. Have a great summer. ☮💟 Auntie Chrissie
Thank you, Auntie Chrissie! Hope all is well for you :) stay safe out there!
Good to see you, again. I'm so looking forward to see what the two of you can create, now. Be safe, be well, and have an awesome time.
Thank you very much :)
Always good to catch up with what you guys are progressing on with - thanks for sharing
Our pleasure!
Always great when you release a new vid…Today is no exception…Thanks for sharing…IAG, eh!!! 🇨🇦
Thanks a lot :) take care!
Great video, nice to have you back... I watch your videos on a Sunday evening before work on Monday, really set me up for the week ahead! Thank You.
Great to hear! We're glad we can get your week off to a good start :)
Merci Jojo!! ❤
Good to see you again. The wildlife there is awesome. Sharp tools are necessary. Time for the screening!
I've so missed your video's. Thank you for your efforts to create new videos.
We’ve missed making them! Glad to have you back :)
You need to look at the grow rings. That tell you witch way to lay the board. You want the ring to the high side on the top side .
Good to know, thanks for the tip :)
You should put those branches in the water just like the geese have them to sit on....if you have a forest fire you may need to perch yourself on a wood island. It happened to my son that he had to lay in a creek for safety. If it had been longer I'm sure he would have liked to have the option of a dry place. Just a thought. Love your show.
Interesting idea! We're glad your son survived, that must have been scary!
Great opening and closing scenes!!! Thank you for sharing the beauty around your lives.
Great to see ya again, sharp tools are a must, I just sharpened my mower blades, and a couple kitchen knives, be well friends.
Thanks, joe! Take care :)
Your axe sharpening is so cool and makes me remind my gone farther who did the sharpening well.thank you for sharing your work
The cabin has come along nicely, I can only imagine how wonderful it is to be able to live in a cabin you built by hand and in such a beautiful location. Thank you.
Thank you! Yes it is quite satisfying and peaceful here. We often just look at the cabin and think "what a crazy idea we had" 😂
Love your geese.
If you want to identify your birds by their song, I would suggest the app Merlin by the Cornell University. You will be happily surprised by the birds near you that you often do not see in the foliage.
Great, we’ll definitely check it out, thank you :)
Always love your vids, but those shots of the birds landing and swimming on the pond - so good!! ❤❤
Ah! Maela wanted to cut some of it out ;) glad i’m not the only one that enjoyed it as much! Glad to have you back, hope you’ve been doing well :)
Thank you!!
Your dedication to craftsmanship and perseverance in building a log cabin is truly commendable. Each step you take towards realizing your vision reflects your passion and determination, inspiring others to embark on their own creative journeys.
And I Am Floating Village Life
Thank you very much!
Wow !
watching here from Brazil beautiful work
I am so amazed at the work you two young people do. Love your videos. Thanks so much for sharing.
another nice video
Good for you! I have so many feeders here at home in Ottawa. My grand dog sits on my lap and we watch all the birds (and squirrels 😡 ). We wake up to two ducks most mornings and bunnies plus their babies now. Oh and two wild turkeys have adopted our street. They all happily enjoy the backyard
Hi Sandra! How lucky you are to get all that wildlife directly in your backyard ! We’ve been hoping for some baby bunnies in our garden, but no such luck yet.
We’re glad to have an update from you, we hope you’re doing well :) stay safe during the heat wave!
Loved the pond footage at the end. Very relaxing
I love the nature you live in 🥰
Can’t wait to watch! Hope you’re both well
You guys are an inspiration, God bless you both
You two are a great looking couple. Team work makes the dream work! Just found your channel and it's so satisfying to see -- the ASMR aspect and the creativity. God speed!
Hello you two, I've missed you. Nice to see you again!
Hi Manuel! Nice to see you again too :) hope all is well for you!
Beautiful place! Im surprised you wouldn't have built your log home right close to your beautiful pond ? Wishing you two all the very best !!
Yellow birds, wild geese, blue jays, but no sign of bear. Do you have bears where you live? Planting
season I think is my favorite. That yellow gue you paint to preserve raw wood...what is that? I ask
a lot of questions because I like to know and understand things. Your sharpening skills seem to
be on par because you hacked through that fallen log in no time at all. Very impressed. Happy to
see you building again you guys really do work as a team. It's funny you still wear jackets when I
sit here sweating in 110*. Some say ""It's a dry heat."" but that doesn't make it any cooler.
Awaiting for your next journey, Still luv ya!, Me southern AZ. (USA)
Good luck
Congratulations congratulations congratulations fantastic fantastic house 🏠 God Bless you 👏

Was great seeing all of the nature footage!

Great to see another video of you all and your progress there. I always feel so relaxed and positive after watching you make a more relaxed and intentional life. Question: do you plan to put a railing around the entry porch now that you have decked it permanently? Thank you for all of the bird shots!
❤ amazing
Hello Nick ando Maela congratulations.
through your channel. Please edit subtitles in Spanish. a hug and God bless you
Sorry about that, we’ve been having problem with the subtitles in our last 2 videos.. we’ll get it fixed ASAP! Take care :)
Very glad that you are on again. Would you have a list of the make if tools you use regularly? Seem to work very well and are of good quality. Thank you.
For sure, we’ll add that to a future video :) thanks for sharing your idea! Take care!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you!
I was wondering if you still had a channel. I haven’t had any video notifications in months. I’ll have to go back and catch up. Love your videos!
Yes we've been a little busy with other things the past few months, so we haven't been able to make as much content as we would like. But we do what we can!
😀👍👍
I think a good future project could be railing for your porch. I was wondering or there fish in that lake . looking in from California in the U.S.
Do you think you will find a way to introduce young trout to your beaver pond? A food source & fun fly fishing.
We're not sure it's big enough to support trout! Anyways we don't eat fish 😅
So, have you fully recovered from your injury? Looks like you have. I pray so.
Yes, pretty much fully recovered ! The flexibility in my wrist has not fully come back, but it’s 98% there :) thank you for caring!
Thank you for the update. Could you please add Closed Caption (CC) to your videos for us hearing impaired? Thank you.
We’ve been having problem with the CZcams subtitles for the last 2 videos.. we’ve reached out to CZcams to try to fix the issue. Sorry about that, hopefully it’ll be fix for next video :)
You need a battery palm hammer .
Good morning guys, great to see you today, wondering did you ever try the birch syrup making? I ended up getting 3 gallons but oh man was it a chore lol, will definitely be getting a large boiler if you will, turned out great, your friend in Alaska ❤️🙏
We never did! Ran out of wood too quickly (it’s crazy how fast it goes!) glad to know it went well on your side. How much gallon did you need to make the 3 gallons of sirop?
I would say at least 125 gallons of sap and I was boiling it in a 7 gallon pot, was very labor intensive but it’s amazing, definitely getting a large pot for next year
Per gallon of syrup
We've had problems with our subtitles for the past 2 videos, we don't know why. We contacted youtube, hopefully they can help fix them! Sorry about that :(
Pena o video esta sem legenda
Any secrets for natural bug repellent
We’ve heard lavender is good, we’ve sprayed the cabin with it and it does seem to help. However, we did that during a dry week, so it might’ve just been that.. the best repellent, sadly, is long sleeves and pants and a bug hat.
Isn't it possible to build a mill by the stream?
Possibly, but it usually dries up for most of the summer
Need a to make a new rooms
Why would you not paint both sides of the boards before install?
Because we're impatient and want to build things fast 😅. The wood is also pressure treated, so there's no real need to stain the underside anyways
Are there fish in that pond near your cabin?
We haven't seen any. Only lots of frogs!
Make you can stock it?!
is it possible to live in a place where, as soon as the spring and summer seasons begin, you are forced to cover yourself with clothes and mosquito nets to protect yourself from insects?
Do you live full time in your cabin
Yes since last June!
Why don’t you rain farm for your garden
It's in our long list of projects! We want to put some gutters on the sugar shack and collect it all in barrels
Good day to my favourite 2 Canadians. I don't understand why you have to feed birds in the woods. Nice to see you 2 again even under the face mask. Liked the part when Nick was feeding the fire and Maela was just tapping her foot. Made me laugh. Take care ❤
Bird feeders are not because birds are going hungry.. its to have them sit and eat close to you, so you can watch them..
@@_evildoer makes sense.
Yes, it’s only to watch them from up close :) and yes, that shot made us laugh too! Thanks for your comment, take care :)
Leider keine Tonspuren implementiert
Do you have any Red-headed Woodpeckers around your beaver pond?
Yes, we certainly do :)
Do you guys put PeanutButter on everything that is your waterproof stuff?
Don't you ever feel bad about working that poor girl like a borrowed mule?😃
Subtitles would be nice. It helps deaf people like myself. Or perhaps we dont matter.
Grow up

They don’t even talk in their videos, maybe for a max of two-five minute lol. It’s legit just background noise 99% of the time.
Mosquito season is always horrible hope to see maela in her bikini great work
I thought you guys were dead
