In this episode, we complete the railing on the porch. Perhaps because we've been out of practice, but we made several mistakes when cutting the posts and railings. We managed to fix the mistakes (for the most part) and it turned out great in the end! We also build a metal trellis archway in our garden for vine plants to grow, like beans and cucumbers. We finish this episode with footage of cute squirrels, and a racoon that woke us up one night by digging outside the cabin!
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

Nick those mistakes were entertaining and funny. A man who can’t laugh at himself is not a real man. Bless you for being a great guy and partner
The mark of a good carpenter is knowing how to fix your mistakes.
Your dedication to documenting the process of building a log cabin is inspiring. Despite the challenges and mistakes, your honesty and perseverance shine through, making each episode a lesson in resilience and craftsmanship. And I am Floating Village Life
Well done and cheers! You guys are on a fun journey, thanks for letting us be a little part of it.
Beautiful railing. Thank you! I will no longer be concerned about you stepping off the landing. Great to see you again!
That little porch is so neat, just like the whole house. It's simply amazing the way you two have basically "carved" most of the house out of your forest. Nick, Maela and a cup of coffee. Good for what ails ya lol!! By the way, for future reference, Clorox kills mold almost instantly. I've use it many times to get rid of it.
Its nice that you show your mistakes. Everyone makes them
We were always taught that wasps were highly territorial creatures who don't like sharing their space
with anyone or anything else. And those wasps look like they could be mean and nasty if provoked.
On the other hand you can tell that you guys are getting way better with your wood carving and
creations. The safety rails came out looking great and sturdy. Something that was needed specially
up that high or slipping on icy winter snow. Safety always first!

Even the pros make mistakes, but you handled yours well by rethinking your plan. I love the addition to your covered porch, but most of all your decision to cohabit with the wasps. Everything in nature has a purpose.
Nice and good work. Happy to see so much good company of friends from nature 😊. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
You guys are getting so fit doing all the work yourselves! You should have an arm wrestling contest for us! It would be fun...(love the staircase and railing)
Part of carpentry is learning how to recover from mistakes, don't ask how this retired carpenter knows. I'm impressed by your joinery with hand tools only, good work!
Thank you for posting your success and failures. You can’t imagine how much I am learning and gathering ideas from your videos.
I love watching you learn, reminds me of myself when I was just beginning
Well done. The landing looks wonderful. Thank you.
Sorry yall had so many tape measuring malfunctions. My home has wasp nest up high so I let them "bee". A few years ago I started having wasps in my home and within a week, a huge swarm invaded my home. It was such a large swarm that it stopped traffic. I had to call a bug guy, and he said these wasps were taking over nests that were in my walls from years prior. I had him spray inside my walls and seal it up from an old drop wire, my power use to go to a garage I no longer have. My home is 90 years old and I also had $10,000 worth of damage from squirrels in my attic. They removed the insulation from ductwork to use in their nests, and chewed all of the wires. Repairs + traps and release total was $10k.
Sorry for the loss of your pet. I have gone through this a lot, and it never gets easier.
Good looking rail the odd mistake add character .So enjoy your videos .♥️🇨🇦
Well done 😊

hey guys good to see you ; mistakes or not porch looks great I love watching both of you work together its fun can't wait to see what you guys do next and I'm an animal lover too take care
Love this channel!
Always a treat to see you back at the cabin. The new veranda looks great! Fresh and wild strawberries what a yummy dessert. Have fun, stay safe. Your fan in Ottawa
Great work. Great strawberry picking for the first year.
The reality of youtube is one has completed what is upload. All the advice in the world is too late.
That said. A salt and water solution rubbed on the surface of the wood will kill the mold. The advantage to using salt is it's inexpensive and you probably already have it around for baking and cooking.
The two of you are doing a fabulous job!
I knew a roofer who had a rafter give way from under his weight. He was permanently crippled and in constant pain. Please be careful and do not stand on the edge of structures. God Bless!
Hi guys,do you know catnip is a great repellent for moscitos simply cut a few leaves and rub on the skin.
The wasps are probably happy then have prime real estate haha and the raccoon must have loved the berries. Railing looks nice!
Bleach / water mixture will wash off that mold in seconds. Done that lots.
Undiluted cleaning vinegar is best as it contains 6%acetic and will kill mould. Spray it on the surface, allow it to sit for about an hour, scrub until the mould comes off , dry completely with a clean cloth, throw away the cloth and brush. Then stain as you would like.
The fact about mistakes: One who does not do, does not make mistakes. I thing the long gape you took, from intensive wood working, is the cause of it. Nice to watch you two working on your cabin. About the bees, I would remove it.
Great to see you guys again, we all make mistakes, I measure 3 times and cut once, teehee, it looks great guys, be well friends.
Great to see ya again, love ye squirrels.
Good job guys
That's how you learn! Always laugh at mistakes!
work is wonderful. I love your work
The house is so beautiful, my friend
I really enjoy watching your projects, the railing looks great and finishes the cabin off wonderfully. I love the sound of the wind in the trees, so relaxing. The squirrel and raccoon were so cute, you are so lucky x
Very nice work

I'm from Northern Ontario and blackflies drive me nuts
Hi you two, I LOVE THE RAILING🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😊

Good job Kids......
Use some use 20 Mule Team Boraxmix in water to keep timber from getting moldy, plus keep insects off.
Excellent video

I saw a creek >n a video , maybe you can set up a waterwheel or a turbine to create electrify the sugar shack
You need washers for those lag screws.
Nick to keep your saw from sticking rub bar soap on it and it will glide better..
Mistake insulation :
Ubakus - Pro software, free un translate
Makes plans, resulsts efficiency phasing thermic / hygrometry air
Vinegar would kill that mold.
You need to make an episode and talk about the tools you use and what they are and where to get them ? I looked at stores here on Ontario and cant find them. Where did you buy them at? Or were they family heirlooms ?
Rub some candle wax on your saw it will not stick so much.
you are forgeting the washers!!!
ciao e buona estate from Italy. top
❤❤❤
great video i don't know where you come from maybe canada i wonder how much a house built like that on you own ground with your own tools
Hi Nick and Maela. Another good video. I have a suggestion for your next project and that is for you to build some kind of work bench so Maela does not end up with a log between her legs all the time. Hope that doesn't sound too rude. Take care. ❤
Why are you worried about it? I don't think it's ok to say something like that just to assume. She might like it, she might hate it, she might not even care. With them two working alot with wood would make me think that if it was an issue they would make something like using horses with clamps. But that's on them not us. Now I have to say sorry if I came out to being rude.. it just bothers me..
@@robertrosado5156 that's OK, I was hoping no one would find it rude. But I think of health and safety all the time and seeing them sometimes standing on stuff to try and stop it moving, I can only think that there is an accident waiting to happen. A broken head, arm or leg seems to be just around the corner. With a little bit of care it could all be safe. Take care.
LIKE !!
Those are hornets.
Was that a snake you showed in the beginning
I THOUGHT it was a snake too, but I'm pretty sure it was a frog❤😊😊
POR QUANTO TEMPO A MADEIRA FICA SECANDO ATES DE VOCÊ USAR ELA ?
[please post a new video and do a campfire!
Is that not a hornets nest, those are bad insects
Are yoi building up.in.Canada?
