  • Today is adventure time as we head out to Taiwan's biggest temple complex: The Fo Guang Shan Monastery. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into before we arrived, but we were amazed by this huge complex with temples, pagodas, stupas, and impressive scenery. Oh and we made some of our favourite drone shots ever here. ENJOY!
We will be staying in Taiwan for the coming weeks/months. If you want to discover what it is like to live as a foreigner in Taiwan, what daily life looks like (costs, apartment, etc.) as well as exploring some of the beauty Taiwan has to offer, then subscribe to our channel.

So glad to see you visited my hometown and love it.
Fo Guang Shan is one of the holy places in Taiwan and it is as famous as Cologne Cathedral in Germany. One thing different is Cologne Cathedral is located by the main train station of Cologne and Fo Guang Shan is actually located at countryside and is build by hillside. According to geographical environment Taiwan is similar like Switzerland both are mountainous. That is one of the reasons you have enough stairs to go up and down.
What the electrical lights you saw on the walls of the main temple they have the same meaning like you go to church and burn on a candlelight for your family or friends. All light must be paid with different price, it depends on the location of the light.
I love Konkke, and am awaiting for you next videos.
I believe your trip is Taiwan will be one of your the best and beautiful memories in your life
    Have Fun in Taiwan

The reason why the man was asking when you guys came to Taiwan was to make sure you guys followed the 14 day self quarantine protocol. This is the very reason why Taiwan has been so successful in terms of the virus preventive measures because not only is it the governments duty to ensure the safety of others but the citizens too have the same conscious mind to ensure the security of the nation. Normally in some places, they request a National Health Card to check all the history and everything, but some places do it verbally because they don’t have access to the government database but again it is just to make sure you guys are healthy. If it has made you guys uncomfortable we apologize but again in dire times we only ask for drastic measures! Continue to enjoy your stay in Taiwan freely! And thank you for making these amazing contents!!

Lots stairs because many places like to be in the mountains away from civilization. That is part of the Taoism culture. You are at a Buddhist monastery, but Taoist culture is everywhere in Taiwan.
Climbing the stairs is also a symbol of the worshipers' commitment and determination to the faith.
The memorial museum looks great, but it's not just a religious establishment. There are actually lots of commercial activities there such as booking a wedding, fancy expensive vegetarian cuisine, and expensive art work. Contributors' names are carved on huge marble slabs and grouped according dollar amounts.
I love the vegetarian food there. Three restaurants to choose from depending on your depths of your pockets.

The UV light in south Taiwan is really serious, wearing a UV-proof jacket or putting up UV-proof umbrella would be better for health~(Taiwanese umbrella usually has two function, one is for rainy days, another is for sunny days)
BTW, it's true that Taiwan is fulled with stairs because there are a lot of mountains here~

Pretty sure these temples were built without nails, which would be the traditional method for temples and palaces. Did the visitor center or museum say anything about that?
For example, the brackets at 6:55 look to be 斗拱. If so, each bracket is made with many many pieces of specially carved wood that do not fit tightly together (no nails - they are held together by gravity alone). Instead, these pieces move, almost skeleton like, during earthquakes. By doing so, the wood does not crack. Instead, the energy of the earthquake is dissipated.
