This is my all-time favourite interview. I love what he says about embracing an illusion of control. I love people who are down to earth about being "spiritual" and communicate their own experience, and perspectives, without claiming a monopoly on truth, and point others back to their own experience.
I also love that he points out, that ultimately meaning cannot be apprehended. My experience with any existential questions, like free-will, meaning of life, is there a "God", evil and suffering, wasn't so much getting an answer to any of it. My mind pursued these things relentlessly. I got my own answers, not vicarious, second hand, parroting of the experience of others. And it's not so much about finding the answer, it's that the question leaves somehow, and I end up in "I don't know."
I honestly think the highest form of worship or prayer or gratitude, is enjoying ourselves.
Thanks for the comment Fiona, some wise words.
Also yes, I recommend Century of the Self to everyone
This was a very very meaningful talk for me.
This sounds neo platonic. 🙏🏼❤️🔥
I feel sorry for him cos he's obviously in pain, but Shiv talking about others bypassing is like the pot calling the kettle black. Intellectual bypassing in his case! Wish I hadn't watched this before going to bed; being exposed to so much barely repressed anger has made my head hurt 😢
Also, liberation doesn't cause people to become unable to function. In fact it makes them more effective at their jobs, according to the deeply realised doctor Angelo Dilullo who manages to anethatise patients for surgery just fine!
Plus: anarchy does not mean rebellion ffs!
