Paul's vocal range was always phenomenal.
@@mrfedupableHelter Skelter, I've Got A Feeling, Oh Darling, Why Don't We Do It In The Road. What are you getting at?
It is still pretty remarkable! He's not dead yet!
When asked how he learned to sing like Little Richard Paul said, "from Little Richard." He said something like you just have to blow the lid off of your head and belt it out. As to Paul's range ... Till their was You to Helter Skelter to I will and everything in between.
@@roberthall6560 Your opinion sucks! Go away!
@@briandonovan1584 He meant that literally. They opened for Little Richard in Germany, and Paul asked him to teach him how.
So good to hear such praise for the Beatles. I think some modern day people have forgotten how brilliant they were.
Screw 'em
I totally agree.
There are very few vocalist, past or present, who could sing this song with the same degree intensity. And Paul does it with such boyish enthusiasm that so irresistible.
Yeah, that’s one of the many reasons I love Paul’s voice in general: He’s *always* enthusiastic no matter what, it’s infectious!
You didn't stop beaming once, during their entire set! Same here!
patricia S I love that about him too. He always seems to really enjoy these clips.
yes i noticed that gleaming smile too!
@The NIFB Jesus OH, YEAH!
You are so right. And yet, this nice take is NOTHING alongside the one that culminated the Washington DC performance in 1964, which is truly animalistic
The NIFB Jesus How TF did i find you on here?!?? 😂😂😂 I'm used to seeing you on Pastor Anderson's channel lmao
Whenever I see Paul in any music videos, he ALWAYS looks like he's having THE TIME OF HIS LIFE!! I love the joy and enthusiasm he brings to all his performances. Also, I just love Paul, John, George and Ringo. Their chemistry always worked. Just wish I was one of those screaming women!! 😍❤👍
Honestly, the man is happiest and most alive on a stage, he is a born performer!
I was a screamer 🤗
And that was the key! They almost always firstly had fun. Paul talked about it and said that music has always been a hobby. Imagine changing the world, but just with a hobby. It was a key awareness that enabled their ability to continue to create music. (If they had to worry about changing the world they probably wouldn't have even tried.)
@@justiceforjamespaulmccartney
That is always what I think when I see Beatles videos. Is this the real Paul? And this was. The authenticity was there. After, always an act. A good one. But now he's been doing it for nearly 58 years.
paul mccartney and his magnificent chameleon voice--- different for every song
((Chameleon voice)) .
I've never heard that before and I love the saying.
Very appropriate for Paul👌!
Paul's voice was other-worldly. It seemed so effortless. And who else could sing, "Oh Darling" the way he did?
John wanted to sing it I've heard, and was pretty disappointed when Paul said he'd do it himself. I have no source.
@@peterblood50 Actually, I think I've heard John sing this, but can't recall where...
@@peterblood50 True.
And no one can sing Twist and Shout like John !
I think the top vocalist of the era was Gary Puckett.
Not just one, but four, veteran rock and rollers (at this young age), going all-out. It doesn't get better than this. Paul's singing is staggering, to put the icing on the cake.
Paul really let it rip! I like how John, Ringo and George seem in awe of Paul's performance.
They were riding his performance, imagine enjoying watching him and being in the same band
John LOVED when Paul just ripped a song like this.
they were brilliant live - considering there were no fold back speakers as they couldn't hear each other, it's incredible how great they were - no auto-tune, no major mixing board, just great live performance as a band - such a great band
I've heard them referred to as "fold-back speakers."
that;s what playing in Liverpool and Hamburg did for them. It turned them into an absolutely fantastic live rock and roll band. Amazing stuff.
The Beatles stand Alone
@Topazthecat I saw The Beatles six times! I would like to see Giles Martin's film, because I had box seats at the Hollywood Bowl both nights in 1965.
@Chewy Ltd Floor wedge type monitors were not in existence but speakers could be used as virtual monitors. In the case of the Atlanta concert. In Candlestick Park they used 3 x studio.monitors
They all looked like they were having a great time!
...especially Paul who really loves those Rock n Roll tracks. Check out his homage to *Carl Perkins* here : czcams.com/video/KsJwA29u_Xk/video.html
*Long Tall Sally* was unique among Beatles EPs being the only one with tracks which didn't appear on their albums :
1. Long Tall Sally
2. I Call Your Name
3. Slow Down
4. Matchbox
Also, great cover : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Tall_Sally_(EP)#/media/File:BeatlesLongTallSallyEP.jpg
My mother and my aunt drove a station wagon with me and 4 other freaked out Beatlemaniacs in the back holding up Beatles or bust signs for over 200 miles to see The Beatles in Chicago. We got to sit up so high in the stadium we all had nosebleeds, and ringing ears and partial deafness for a few days afterwards from all the screaming, including our own, which started way before they ever hit the stage..and didnt stop until way after they had left the stage...only stopped then because we ALL were crying our eyes out because it was over and they had left the building..much like Elvis. One of the most wonderful days of my life! I love my mama!! Thanks for another great one Fil.
I can relate! BEATLEMANIA WAS RAMPANT IN THE STATES!
Thank you Sandra for sharing this extraordinary experiance with us who were not there!!!
@@deboraalfa327 YW Debora. It was a great feeling, re-living it for those few minutes I was typing..even though I DID write the longest comment ever on Fil's channel, lol. Sorry, Fil..but On the flip side, it WAS your fault for analyzing a live Beatles concert, lol!
Cool!
Sandra - You captured the total fun of being a Beatlemaniac. My parents wouldn't let me go to see them in '64 in Australia & it ruined my life ;)
Who says Paul don't Rock !! ??!! Ya here that voice! ROCK !
Your comment about Ringo is spot on. He took the Beatles from a good bad to a great band. It’s no coincidence they soared in popularity right when he joined.
Covering a Little Richard rocker like this takes balls. The band is great, and they rock, but Paul's vocal actually rivaled Little Richard's original. The studio version is awesome too. He simply kills that vocal. Thanks!
It is known fact that Little Richard himself taught the way how to sing the famous "ooh ooh" to Paul, when Richard was playing on the same club in Hamburg the Beatles did. It was a bit before they got the record deal.
@@onsesejoo2605 and the fact that paul even sings it a tone higher
I believe they did that version in one take!
@@MsAppassionata yes!! they did record it in ONE take!! check the book "the beatles recording sessions" !
Wonderful. Notice that John takes the first lead?
In interviews they said they had a hard time hearing what each other was playing at times. I was always amazed at how great they performed live . Especially Paul McCartney. He always showed confidence in his performances.
It's Beatles.
I'm here.
Same here!
👍
God they sound great. McCartney is such a phenomenal vocalist.
Phenomenal songwriter and bassist.
@@BeatlesCentricUniverse Great guitar player too. He played lead on "Taxman" on the groundbreaking "Revolver" LP. "Rubber Soul", "Yesterday and Today" and then "Revolver". Howz THAT for a body of work....

Wow, they were great! My 21 year old has discovered them and they’re now his favorite group. Shows how timeless they are
Paul's got his Little Richard vocals lit up! I love, love, LOVE THIS! They're all balls to the walls going at it!Look at you Fil...You're right there with them!😁 Thanks for another great analysis!(can't help but notice your pure excitement!)
Amazing analysis ... been a Beatles fan forever and I love it when someone can provide unique perspectives; hard to find
M S 1 Same here. Now I know why I like them so much.
The Beatles logged thousands and thousands of hours live around Liverpool, England, and in Hamburg. One Beatles scholar has calculated that they played well over ten thousand hours of live performance. And they probably played "Long Tall Sally" everyday and possibly several times a day. The Beatles were experts on their instruments. For instance, a lot of critics wonder whether John was a good guitar player. In fact, he could play the riffs or boogie lines of any rock and roll number in a set and simultaneously perform the lead vocal, just as McCartney sings in falsetto on "Long Tall Sally" and plays the bass. I certainly wish that the camera man had caught John playing that solo in the first break. The Beatles weren't big lead players like Clapton and Hendrix but they were extremely self-confident and strong musicians. They could step up to mic and knock almost any rock and roll song out of the park. For the apocalyptic version of "Long Tall Sally," listen to their performance caught on Hamburg Tapes. That performance probably collapsed a few stars in the galaxy. Ringo is on the drums--New Years Eve, 1962.
No, that Hamburg version and the version here in this video (NME 65) do not compare with the version from NME in 1964. That version is the most exuberant exciting live song ever performed. Must watch!
Nope Washington Coliseum 64 takes the prize
Captures the Beatles magic. When you heard and watched them perform, you just felt so damn good about the world.
This is one of the best live performance's ever. They all are great but Paul's bass playing and a singing is out of this world, AMAZING! Love them.
You can really see John light up when they play the rock covers. All of them really. They loved their rock and roll. What a gift that we have decent footage of them live. Just genius in every way.
Right about Paul on bass. "Rain" was the first time I really heard the bass as a special instrument in rock.
I love the baseline from Paperback Writer
@@pandorafox3944 No argument from me.
Raspy-voiced McCartney has a flair of Little Richard in it.
Nice.
The story has it that he learned the ooh ooh from The Man himself during their days in Hamburg's Star Club. They spend time around the piano until Paul got it.
@@onsesejoo2605 Little Richard confirmed. He said "I'm the man who taught McCartney how to go whoooooooooo!
Just saw Paul in San Diego...he can still rock like no other...and I agree...his voice was amazing...and this is an example of that...plus he is the consumate musician, showman and entertainer...above the others...and still is! Paul just loves to perform and entertain...he definitely found his calling!
Silly Billy, i ALWAYS know when its you!!! Lol!!!
omg. paul really had the pipes didn’t he👍
Yes, this and Helter Skelter; John comparing him to Englebert Humperdink after they broke up was pure jealousy and spite.

@@frankbarnwell____ No idea what that means.
Still waiting for a cameraman who knows John plays guitar, too.
I know, right? Very frustrating to miss these camera angles.
Lennon was very self-conscious about people watching him play solos. Epstein always made sure that Lennon never got a close-up during a solo
@@vmnt6757 True. I saw once that Lennon told, he didn`t want the cameras on him when he played the solo to You Can`t Do That
They never caught John"s solos
He wrote most of the 🎸 tracks. Even if he didn't play them. John was the ❤ and soul....
Nobody ever mentions the fact that Paul does it in G a whole step higher than Little Richard in F. As for George was asked about his lead playing and why didn't you rock out more ! George replied " I did just as many notes as the song required" Brilliant Answer !!
Mozart was quoted as saying the same thing when a king asked him why he used so many notes.
Vocal was amaaazing and yeah, forget that he's playing impeccably
Armand Gallanosa I forgot just how well Paul could belt out a tune like that! 👍❤️
Paul has one of the greatest voices in rock history! Bar none! "Oh Darling" is a perfect example of Paul's vocal talents. He can really get that distortion and grit in his voice when belting out a tune.
I agree. Paul sang/recorded both "Yesterday" & "I'm Down" The same day !!
Love that song
He still can, actually. He’s never lost the ability to scream and use the ‘growly’ voice. It’s just the rest of his singing repertoire that’s suffered greatly. Which is hardly surprising, given he’s almost 79!
Paul's voice...so much soul!
The Beatles played a gig with Little Richard in 62. He taught McCartney how to get that falsetto scream
Love the early Beatles as a group and I think the young Paul really stands out. Great review!!
My analysis: No other band has ever been so influential, so successful, so inspirational.
Just watching the Beatles perform in a live setting is so amazing, they leave you with a smile on your face. I enjoy watching but more importantly is the fact that the Beatles just look like they are having the time of their lives. They love singing, playing and working together to make a complete sound.
There is a tradition in painting of artists showing they can do established works as they slowly find their own voice. Beatles were part of that musical tradition that made them all the better when their voice became fully formed.
At this time of this performance they were at the beginning of what was to become Beatlemania..Paul McCartney knew this song inside and out..they were professional, totally on point.Thank you for giving this high praise..the GOAT.
Never would I underestimate the excellence of the Beatles. This was fun to watch and listen to your analysis 🔥 🎸 🤘 😎
This is actually... Probably one of my favorite covers of all time. I have a few that I can think of right off the bat. But this is definitely something I've loved & listened to forever.
it is great ✌
its stupendous
I read the boys in the band were making the changes by sight - watching other members hands move to different chords. Makes the performance even more amazing.
What are you talking about? They didn't go up there and improvise the songs!
@@SpaceCattttt They could not hear anything but screams that were as loud as a jet engine.
Ringo once said that the only way he could keep time during concerts was to watch Paul's backside move in time with the beat.
@@BeatlesCentricUniverse Oh, right. I thought the OP had had a stroke...
@@SuperMikecarp Lol, that’s hilarious.
Absolutely brilliant.. well done Fil!
Paul McCartney is one of the greatest singers in rock history! But that's just one of the reasons they were/are/forever will be the greatest band EVER!
My Partner says she is not a Beatles fan.Went to Liverpool last year(for me). In the Cavern 20 mins and she is in tears.
Thats debatable.
@@pianoplayer89 Everything is debatable, it's my opinion.
@@robertburke784 Yep and thats my opinion
@@pianoplayer89 Paul is rated #11 by "Rolling Stone" magazine. John Lennon is at #5. Paul has the greater range but having a recognizable distinctive voice is a part of the rating. Still, # 11 is way up there.
The Beatles’ secret weapon was their rhythm section. John and Paul are the most famous creative duo but Paul and Ringo are the *other* creative duo in this band. They are just so special, even now there is perfect synch magic whenever they perform together, people watching them in-studio often comment on it.
The Beatles have rocked my world since 1964. Their early covers always knocked my socks off. Then they grew into talented musicians. They BLEW MY MIND!
From Brazil By Marcio
No doubt... they were fabulous, weren't they?
My favourite band FOREVER AND EVER.
Thanks for this Fil...
this blows Little Richard out of the water...I believe he said so himself. It's basically perfection
This was some raw blasting grunge with the wee bit of imperfect lead playing a that just makes it sound dirty and rough..
ROY CHRISTOPHER
HELL NO!!!! No one will EVER be as good as the true king of rock’n roll Little Richard!
@@filthyanimal874 well LR thought Beatles did his song better than he did...nuff said
@@filthyanimal874 Correction. The Queen of Rock n Roll. And Little Richard was in love with Sir Paul. Paul was flattered but not at all interested. Little Richard did not like John worth a damn. True story.
ROY CHRISTOPHER yeah Little Richard was a real down to earth kinda guy. The Beatles sure did an awesome cover. I remember buying The Beatles Rock’n Roll Music Album volume 1 in cassette when I was a kid and playing it till it wore out.
The snap of Ringo Starr's hi-hat, the shimmer, and chime of George Harrison's guitar-only made the racket made by all those fans even
louder.
Fil really nailed this one! Paul's Absolutely Great vocals, while playing with fluidity and vigour, plus Phenomenal stage presence... lots of artists can only manage one of those at a time. Some rare few can do two of 'em. All three at once? That's Top Shelf, people! And Ringo's drumming... I've been amazed at his versatility and phrasing for decades. It's Great to see that he's FINALLY getting the recognition he has deserved for so long, and from so many different sources! Too long his lack of Flash caused the masses to overlook him!!!
John is likely my favorite singer/writer of all time. But ya, Paul could belt it out when he wanted to.
This is legendary stuff! Paul.....man the guy can sing! The Beatles...amazing what these guys have done for music! Epic! Thanks for sharing this Fil! Cheers Mario! 😎👌🤘
I agree with this guitarist's analysis: this is an incredibly difficult vocal to pull off!!! How do we know? TRY IT!!! Try singing that without it sounding raunchy and amateurish...if you don't just miss a bunch of notes altogether!!! It is hard to hold a pitch when you are singing that high. McCartney can do so much with his voice: from Long Tall Sally to Michelle to Yesterday and back to Oh Darling!!!!
recorded yesterday and I'm down the same day
Allegedlly McCartney was proud of being able to sing this well into his middle age.
I think that people forget some times that the Beatles play/sing rock n roll. Great reaction.
I'm not a musician, can't carry a tune in a bucket. But I love watching your analysis. You light up the screen.
Fil.... you are my musical soulmate!!!! I love all types of music but love the British Invasion and so many British bands. I’ve studied the Beatles for over a year with readings and interviews. Your analysis are so interesting and spot on! Your smile says it all!!
For me, Paul's vocal on this song proves how great a singer he was. John's no slouch by any means, but Paul gets my vote as the better singer.
I find the opposite. No other singer touches me like Lennon.
You are a gem, sir. Thank you so much for your intelligence, and the passion that you have to articulate your deep awareness of this music. It adds layers of pleasure to understanding why and what matters to us about it.
I love to listen to heavy metal, prog, funk, alternative, folk-rock, punk, blues, etc., etc., but I always come back to the Beatles as my favorite group, for all the reasons you described in your analysis of this song. It seems like music--all music--was for them a giant playground. Hence the constant smiles on their faces....
Wow, you sure find amazing footage, great review Fil, thank you!
I noticed your smile got wider whenever there was a shot of Ringo!!! Love this channel!! Cheers mate!!
Did you know Little Richard taught Paul McCartney how to "woo, woo woo?"
The Beatles opened for Little Richard on his tour of England in 1962 and they hit it off well.
ANd as my lovely 14 year old musician daughter chimed in: "They were cute too !" and yes RINGO was THAT good ! NOT "Charlie Watts good" but "Ginger Baker" GOOD!
oh HI FIL!
oh whatever !
Your analysis is worthy of the greatest band to ever play across the genres, as well as creating a few of their own. The excellence of your analysis, if you don't mind my saying, reminds me of the analysis of Mozart's music given by Antonio Salieri in the movie Amadeus. Of course his tragedy was that he did not recognize his own genius but was obsessed with coveting Mozart's talent. By the way I just got back from Martin Barre's concert here in New Hope Pennsylvania... He did a Beatles cover of I Want You/ She's So Heavy. He said it was his remaining life's tasks to perform and interpretation of the Beatles entire catalog. if it's good enough for a virtuoso like Martin Barre, it should be good enough for anyone.
I'm a huge Tull fan as well as a Beatles fan. When you said Martin played "I Want You," it brought tears of joy to my eyes. :)
The difference between playing a gig and giving a performance.
Thank you Fil for this amazing analysis! And thanks for being as enthusiastic about the Beatles as we are!😄😍❤
It's fantastic how Paul sings lead and harmony while playing the base so well! Hey, Fil, one of the things I like about your videos is how great a smile you have. Keep up the good work mate.
Where would modern metal be without McCartney’s contribution!
To me, the Beatles were in a different universe. As time goes by and Music changes and moves forward, they are still stand out as leaders
Paul really sings this well. Not a "squeezed" sound at all. His singing of Long Tally Sally has that free sound and melodic. Its fantastic.
When you mentioned the video included The Kinks, Animals, and others, I had to watch a few. Great music, great times! Thanks, Fil, for featuring this❣️
The whole concert is astonishing!
Paul is the one that came up with the drum pattern on Ticket To Ride. Showed it to Ringo, and indeed it makes the song unique in a great way.
Indeed he did. He wasn’t new to drumming. When Pete Best was the drummer, Paul would often show him what he thought would work best and would sometimes ‘force’ him to go up front and sing lead with Paul providing the beat.
Outstanding vocals from Paul.. and his confidence is through the roof! Looking right into the camera, just amazing
love Fil.
you're not analysing, but explaining. Paul is a world treasure.

One of their best old rockers! Thanks for and another great video and analysis!
Thank you!! Saw them play in Chicago in 1965, yes, it was deafening.. and wonderful!
Thank you for covering my favorite band!
Thanks for highlighting this great performance. I don't think I have seen it before. Great example of how good they were as a live act. Paul is absolutely amazing here. Thanks again.
I went to their show in 1965 in Dallas Texas. The screaming was so loud I honestly couldn't hear the music. It was disappointing. Not them, the screaming, it did not stop for one second the entire show. Don't blame them for wanting to quit touring.
I saw them in Jersey in 1965 on Arlington Drive in my living room I had the TV turned up to 11
Looking at their hair, I remember when kids in Elementary would have to remove their Beatle wigs before going to class. They could wear the Beatle Boots, and Nero Shirts, but no Beatle Wigs period. The Beatles changed everything. EVERYTHING.
Thanks for the link,. Fil! You seem to see the unseen. [WoW] And Ringo n Paul COULD swwing! They ALL 'steal the show' together!
When I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show oh so many years ago I knew even at only 9 years old that something begain forming in my mind about how music would influence me. It was like an awakening. I can't put it into words but the experience was not only emotional but mental and physical. Hard to communicate it but it changed me somehow.
so fun to see their concert footage, such a great band
I hope Paul sees this. So good!
Love the Beatles!
:-) And John loved the "Moonlight sonata" for sure !
Good grief! You are the King of Insight. I couldn't begin to fathom the left handed drummer on a right handed kit thing without your analysis. Huge thumbs up for this one. Immensely enjoyable.
Sweet Baby Jesus, I love this performance! Had to revisit this analysis. So young and happy!!!!

For me there was the Beatles, and then everyone else. Great performance here. surprisingly, you can hear them quite well. Probably better than they heard each other. Great comments Fil. I'm glad to see talented and knowledgeable people like yourself and your wonderful audience can still appreciate them all these years later. Great is great I guess, always. All the best Fil...Keep these fascinating and informative videos coming...Paul
Paul just friggin nailing it.
There was all these great groups performing and then there was the Beatles!
What a lot of people don't realise is that they were already very popular on the pub scene by the time their first album came out. And you don't get there by being a faking hack on your instrument. Great analysis ☺
I went and watched the whole video. While they had a great lineup of acts, The Beatles clearly were in a league of their own. Thanks for another excellent analysis video!
Glad you mentioned it : The time spent in Germany and Liverpool was their training time. By the time we heard about the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, they were full fledged professionals . They had already paid their dues and were ready to just start raking in the rewards.
Great to hear you speak about the Beatles like that.
Thanks Fil.. so obvious that you not only enjoyed the performance but you've taken the time to analyse every aspect of it. Went to see Yesterday last night. It really make you realise just how much their music meant to and shaped the broader community. Once again, thanks.
Beatles version of Long Tall Sally is truly one of the best rock vocals ever...live or studio version! Gotta love the John guitar solo and the the Ringo triplets on the last chorus!
I saw the Beatles in 1965 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Canada. Got the ticket for my 16th birthday. First concert I ever went to.
