Intermittent Fasting is not a fade. Please stop spreading misinformation calling it a fade. Look at the Nobel prize winning work on Autophagy. On October 3, 2016, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi for “discoveries of the mechanisms for autophagy.” IF is well explained now and is beneficial. Once 35 yrs old, breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. Give you digestive track break for 12-18 hrs. Constant eating builds up Insulin resistance which is cause of 90% of the present disease humans suffer including diabetes and cancer.

Benefits of fasting are undisputable but as Palki mentioned its not for everybody. For example, people with acid reflux, GERD problem can't starve themselves for 16 hours to allow acid build up in stomach that can reflux to further damage the situation.

@indiasane9420 16 hrs fasting windows isn't recommended from day 1 or sick body. It's gradual evolvement and then a lifestyle. Curing is different from healing, and fasting belongs to the latter.

Practicing for last 2years apart from fat loss it gives you patience, stops aging, cleanses liver and toxic solids in the intestine. Also a good way to build muscle . started practicing after watching dr.eric berg youtube channel.
I believe that preaching us to eat all 3 times and snacking all the day is a strategy built by food industries and politicians through doctors to make our pancreas get exhausted and make money through hospitals and pharma industries built by them.

Now let's say you still end up eating pizzas/burgers during intermittent fasting, your body will eventually tell you that those food won't sustain if you want to *play by the rules of the game!* So one has to understand the concept of this before they jump into it.

Scientifically accepted fasting is "water-only fasting for 24 hrs up to 5 days continuously" depending on the patient under the doctor's recommended treatment. (Scientist got Noble Laureate) It is not meant for reducing weight only. Certain diseases are treated. People like me are prone to BP, Cancer, etc. Go to doctor not Google.

I have done intermittent fasting and got a lot of benefits. It is a life-style not a one time deal for a period of time. You have forgotten to mention Buddhism where monks has a life style of 6-18 style intermittent fasting for the whole life as a monk. There are reasons behind these practices. Yes, if you eat pizza and other non healthy food during the eating window, it will not work for weight lost. But a sensible healthy food taken during the eating window, it will do a lot of good for your body.

Time restricted eating which is a better term, is usually practiced as "2MAD" ie 2 meals a day usually with a 16/8 or 18/6 hr interval. The 2 meals should consist of healthy foods - not convenience foods. You don't continuously snack on rubbish in the shorter time window which leads to insuling resistance. Our ancestors went thorough long periods when they didn't eat anything at all because of food scarcity. There's no harm in feeling a little hungry for a time during the day. It's what most people experience in the world today and what out ancestors experienced. Give it a try - you'll be surprised by the benefits. Your blood pressure and blood sugar levels will begin to normalize.

The actual idea about IF & EF is to increase insulin sensitivity of the cells, remove junk cells from the body and generate growth hormone once in a while. So when you do eat, you should be eating foods that avoid insulin spikes and promote gut bacteria's health. The only way to do this is to consume foods that have high good saturated fats and fiber, moderate protein & minimal carbs. So automatically sugar, processed foods and trans fat go out of the window.
Unfortunately, most people don't mention what to consume during the eating window. That's why it is very important to understand the mechanism and the logic behind any diet. You can look at videos by Dr Pradip Jamnadas, Dr Jason Fung & Dr Eric Ekberg to understand it better.

I don't fast but I have a limited amount of intake .Sometimes liquid Sometimes semi liquid sometimes dry and solid .I don't eat the same variety always .No soda, vinegar, and no aginamoto chienese salt, citric acid nor much spices . Basic cooking in coconut milk ,coconut cream and coconut oil or ghee . Every food should be cooked in oil pertaining to the masala we use .All grains one by one must be used ,like millets, ragi, wheat, rice, arrowroot, tapioca powder etc Yet the combo must be right .Only then we can have a perfect healthy life style.Fasting is not the right choice.

I am a stroke patient for 6 years and I started to do intermittent fasting with keto diet well over 2 years and to be true myself it's working pretty well for me. I took regular checks up with my doctor every 5 to 6 months they told me that all my tests is okay. I am trying hard to prevent a reattack of stroke

Palki conveniently left out autophagy and the anti aging benefits of intermittent fasting (Dr. David Sinclair). Intermittent Fasting may not be for everyone, but it is worth doing after following proper protocols and carefully watching what you eat. Read "The warrior diest" by Ori Hofmekeler and Lifespan by David Sinclair to know more.

The other issue is everyone has different genetic make up and dietary requirements. Some diets work well for some people and not for others.
I suggest people try a diet and see how they feel and get their body to give them feedback in determining what the right diet is for them

  • @Sabkasath605
    @Sabkasath605 Před 11 měsíci +2

I have been one of your earliest admirers and I will most probably be so but on Pharma or diet topics you irk me really. Your quote: "IF barely ever talks about what to eat during eating window." Then talk about what you should eat during that period Palki, instead of scaring away people. You said you would tell us the "full" story. What a confidence! Don't bundle IF with "fad" (as you call) diets because IF is not a diet! It is the natural way of taking one's diet (16+8, atleast is natural). If you increase fat in your diet and reduce carbs you CAN sustain hunger pangs. (Now this leads to another debate with you. I am not asking one to do full keto but to increase fat to carb ratio) I did it that way for 3 years with full keto. And I got rid of many health issues. Most prominently my brain fog. Now I eat 2 meal a day normally and I am quite comfortable. IF is not making a grinder out of your mouth. And hunger pangs are because of the refined foods. There are thousands of doctors not quacks prescribing IF and Keto. Why do you still talk scarily? Have a conversation with eminent doctors like Dr Jason Fung instead! In fact IF deals with Insulin resistance. Start working on a story on Insulin resistance you will find yourself talking opposite of all this! Every time you eat your pancreas releases insulin. You may end up with Insulin resistance. It is what science says. Where is the problem? As far as the so called studies are concerned, you as a news researcher know better about them than us. And you are suggesting people not to follow so called "Fad" diets based on internet stories. Well I would say one should not give up the idea of taking to IF based on your talk on the same internet but to read authoritative books on IF by well known doctors such as Dr Jason Fung and non-doctor heroes such as Ivor Cummins. Please don't be so insensitive to our lived experience.
PS. Large fibre in the food you eat, lemon with rock salt during fasting are key to success in sustaining IF.

  • @aarshifashions

What she said is correct. Every body is different n one should consult a nutritionist before doing anything unusual. Also the 12hours fasting is advisable compare to 16hr provided u r eating normal home cooked meals in rest of the time. I think this works. Avoiding breads n sugars improves metabolism. Even if one eats carbs in lunch as well a dinner is fine with 12hr fasting. This is not weight loss but it helps maintain your energy n balances ur weight.

One day I went to office where health check-up was going on, organized for employees, my Blood pressure, Sugar level, Eye sight etc was good but not best or optimal, from next day I started intermittent fasting religiously along with normal diet and less sugar, quit tea (cold turkey), after three month next health check-up conducted and All my reports came excellent, I lost by belly fat, I started feeling more energetic I was surprised to see the improvement in my reflexes and cognitive function (I actually noticed so does the people around me) I would say among all the health advice I received in my life time this is the one (IF) that actually worked, and I am going to continue with this. rest is up to you. Thank you for your Awesome contents as always.

I eat only 2 meals - breakfast & lunch & then fast for 18 hrs till next meal. I eat a proper balanced meal & have no cravings at all. Wonder why I don’t think of it earlier. Weight loss was a by product.

Intermittent diet with the right knowledge of how to eat clean and healthy within the time frame work wonderfully. Bad eating habbits, including starving yourself then bulge eating, are the trouble makers. Avoid all types of sugars and high processed carbs (like cakes, donuts, sweet desserts and snacks) at all time with keeping at a smaller portion are the keys in any types of diet.
