100% this
I was thinking the same thing
Omg yess
Yessss the Asimov vs. Spike scene would be awesome to see them breakdown!
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Avatar the last air bender is one of the only shows that held up watching as an adult. I can’t wait to show my kids it
This the Hawks , wow
Ur website helped alot thanks.....
agreed, its nice that a "kids" show was so well made that its enjoyable as an adult.
I watched it the first time in my mid thirties. It's one of my top 3 TV-shows of all time.
I finished watching it yesterday and I’m so sad. I wish I could forget it and watch it all over again.
I just watched it all again with my kids, still love going through this adventure
They not only includet different Martial Arts in ATLA with References, they even send the Animators in some courses of the different fighting styles to shape an even better understanding of these movements which is such a passionate level of research in my eyes.
ATLA was a labour of love and it shows.
@Ryoku Y I agree it was perfect but I wish we got a spinoff before Korra animating the various Avatar comics
@@robocu4 TRUE dude we were supposed to get a 4th season of ATLA originally covering a plotline with Azula that ended up being covered in the comics, but they just never got to do it, such a shame because it would've been fucking incredible

One Punch Man season 1. Fighting scene of Saitama and Genos is completely nuts
Nearly every fighting scene had good combat animations in OPM Season 1... fucking loved it!
Season 2 definitely didn’t reach the bar that season 1 set

The Zuko v Azula fight scene always gives me goosebumps.
It is entertaining, but also sad how he had to fight his own sister who didn't want to change for the better :(
@@RB01.10 yeah the music helped us understand that it wasn't some sort of triumphant fight but rather a tragic scene
Me too
Because the mood was set by the sad music they played in the background.
It really drove home what a tragedy it was that she had been twisted so far, and was still just a kid, but had to be put down
omg facts
I already LOVE Avatar the Last Airbender, but holy heck learning more about how much care they gave to animating it, theming each of the elements around a different martial art that fits the style. Its so incredible.
They even made Toph, a variant earth bender, use a different style than other earth benders. So many details in the visuals bending.
@@JaharNarishma and to add onto this. the style of bending toph uses is based on mantis style kung fu. which is is rumoured to have been developed by a blind woman in real life
the concept advertised in the Koji pitch pieces is so cool! I know Alex said he'd work on it regardless of if a studio picks it up, but if a studio did pick it up, you can count me amongst the audience!
The last agni kai from atla is still to this day one of the most stunning animated action scenes and no one can tell me otherwise.

Why would someone tell you otherwise, it is what it is

This video just makes me wanna watch Avatar again. It was such a good cartoon! I've been meaning to watch it again. This vid also makes me wanna watch "The Legend of Korra". When it first aired, I watched like 2, maybe 3 episodes but I couldn't get into it. Maybe now I can. I heard it was canceled before airing the last few episodes on TV so they released the rest online. That's cool they didn't leave everyone hanging that actually liked it. Knowing this makes me think it wasn't that good but I still should give it another try.
the legend of korra went through a production hell.
from problems at the start where Nickelodeon didn't like the idea of a female lead, to it being planned as a one season show to rapidly get renewed (which ended up with a not as good season 2, and also a change of studio as studio Pierrot took over studio Mir). Then it seemed like season 2 will be its last, but the show suddenly got renewed again for season 3 and 4. Having more time to plan everything out, season 3 and 4 are absolutely fantastic (however, episodes have been shortened for one or two minutes compared to season 1 and 2, which honestly does mean we lose about 12-24 minutes per season). And that was just a taste of what's to come, because despite season 3 being superior to season 2 and season 1, Nickelodeon cut the funding of season 4 in half, which is the reason for the infamous clip episode in season 4 (the creators had no choice; it was either to have people work without getting paid, or for them to get paid properly for the time spent working and save it by making a clip episode). On top of it, the show got moved online. In 2013 and 2014, watching shows online meant lower quality than TV, etc., and most people did not even know about it. Instead, they just thought that the show stopped airing.
I hope you gave it a watch, because TLOK is a fantastic show
@@nelgluhak6709 actually I believe Studio Perriot stopped halfway through book 2 because the production was to much for their animators and Studio Mir did the rest of book 2 while also doing season 4 of the Boondocks
Wren's reaction to Invincible is perfection
Aside from the regulars like Akira, I can comfortably recommend "redline" as a visual masterpiece. think anime speed racer in space.
Seconded
Ma men speaking facts
Akira with animations from 40 years ago that kicks 99% today's productions.

@Robertino Tanos Just copy and pasting, huh? Well don't mind if I do too! 🤣
Nah, man. That's your opinion. To me and many others The Legend of Korra is a pretty good sequel show. You don't have to like it better than ATLA but it's definitely not a bad sequel show and very enjoyable!
The Legend of Korra is great, my boy Aang is still my favorite but there's no hate for the sequel series at all.
The first season w the Equalists and Amon is my favorite by far!! My interest dropped a little after that season but there's still wonderful gems and moments hidden throughout. Like the whole backstory of Avatar Wan! I loved that so much.
@Robertino Tanos while ATLA is the best, Korta is still good. I enjoyed it.
@Robertino Tanos Oh... so now I'm "fanatic" and/or "ignorant" because I'd disagreed with what you said. Oh no! I'm... I'm so sorry! 😂 Dude, you're just toxic and probably a hater. I was being respectful when I first replied saying "that's your opinion" but if you aren't going to be respectful to me then I'm sure as hell won't be towards you. I don’t hate you or find you annoying but let’s put it this way…, if I had a bucket of water and you were on fire, I’d drink the water.
I forgot to say: thanks for this episode corridor.
After seeing this I decided to go watch avatar, and oh my lord this is my new favourite work of fiction! How can this show be so good?
Oh, I remember God of High school, it was one of those comics that went on forever. Can't remember if it was one of those that got more and more white spacing between the panels or not (some of the Korean cartoons have gotten (got?, dunno if that's still going on) rather tiring with the hideous amount of white space to fill out the comics, sometimes half (if not more) of the space taken up by the comic, gutter (which apparently is the term of the in-between space).
Which the best anime (IMO) is rather hard to say because there are a few that I consider to be favourites for very different reasons:, for example: Clannad (including movie and after story!) is one of the few things (entertainment-wise) that have had me in tears.
When you say that Vessi are warm in the winter, what kind of winters do you have? Asking for obvious reasons.
Anime is animation done in Japan, but it doesn't have to be energy or action based. That genre is Shonen anime
Watching Garden of Words, I had to think "so where's the hot action?" ... Well, maybe not. As you've said, there's a lot of anime where action is NOT the focus, and IMO some of those shows are amongst the most impressive. They're also much rarer, as those sorts of shows are more commonly made as live-action. Makoto Shikai's catalogue and of course some of the lesser-known Ghibli movies (Whispers of the Heart, Ocean Waves) are good examples, but there are also series like Red Garden and Rumbling Hearts.
Yeah... anime can literally be any genre. That's why it's like nothing else.
@@Nekotaku_TV Except, you know, comic books, movies, short films, cartoons, novels, short stories, and every other form of story telling ever made. I like anime too but it's not the only story telling medium that spans genres lmao
That's what I was screaming when he explained anime. Lol my homeboy just thinks anime is shonen and screams he's the biggest anime fan 😑. Just name drops popular shonen titles

There is actually the same thought in Avatar the last Airbender. When Aang fights Toph. They assume Toph threw the match cause they couldn’t see her get hit with the air
Dude could literally not be more wrong on the head squeezing scene. Anticipation was so intense. We had no idea where it was going. And that was the turning point of the show letting us know its not gonna be a normal cartoon.
Maybe his skull should be visually getting crushed not just have an eye popping out. The head itself was rigid the whole time, I think he was talking about the head. Yeah the glasses shattering is a nice touch, but they could have done more because the head hardly moves in my opinion.
They're not saying the scene is bad, quite the opposite in fact. THey're pointing out how despite clear budget restrictions, they still put out a quality show.
Jujutsu Kaisen or the One Punch Man vs Genos fight scene. I'd love to see a professional breakdown of that

@@00Bia07 Oh wow, I did not know it was already talked about in a video. It was just something I actually picked up on my own
Hearing them talk about the process of cartoon animation in the west being animated in studio's in the East is SO interesting. I grew up watching shows like Swat Kats, Thunder cats, Captain Planet etc, and over the years through research learned that much of their episodes would be storyboarded here but sent overseas to be animated. I was always fascinated about that back and forth, realizing over time and more research that a lot of the reason was that animation studios in Korea and Japan were able to do a lot more with less. They could push the animation through the use of camera angles and extreme shots. Giving the show a more dynamic and intense feeling. It also looked smoother and movements were a lot sharper. Back then you would only really find that level of animation from a western studio for a movie or a motion picture. Not for a cartoon. It kind of changed the game of how cartoons in the West would be done and look.
Zuko and azulas fight was by far the best animation I had ever seen especially at the time. It was just beautiful. Also naruto shippuden is by far the best anime
Having J K Simmons voice Tenzin in Korra and Nolan in Invincible.

I actually like Korra more than ATLA. The second season is lacking, but overall it is a fantastic show
@Robertino Tanos Seriously? You're calling me a "fanboy" because I'd disagreed with you? I even tried to be respectful by saying "That's your opinion" before stating my disagreement. This.... this is how I know you having nothing to actual say. Do you always act like an idiot or do you just show off when you reply to me?
How have I not come across a Full Metal Alchemist comment?! Transmutation artifacts, material morphing, amazing fire, smoke, fight scenes, beasts, monsters, story
Magic battles, military battles, plain old hand to hand fighting, comedy, tragedy, failure and redemption. Pretty much the perfect anime.
Came here to make the same comment. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is one of my two favorite anime of all time, the other being Avatar the Last Airbender, of course.
Many, many other great ones out there, but these two take the cake for me.
I feel like it’s really underrated even though it’s not
Any of the battles involving Homunculi in FMAB are absolute animation marvels. There's a lot more that's still good, but those really demonstrate the peak of their animation (which is very high)
FMAB is the first anime series I watched to completion, and after 10 years of watching anime I think it's still the best I've seen, it just does everything so well. It's exceptionally well-rounded.
I like listening to Alex talk about anime. He gets so hyped!, it makes it more entertaining.
Beautiful work and so well done.
Cowboy Bebop: Neo spaghetti western, story, space, Jazz....so good

It will never happen again probably. Idk which interview it was, but apparently the animation director, Shingo Natsume, called in favors from the time he worked at other studios as a freelance (including JCStaff, season 2s animation studio) from talented people that allowed the already start studded MADHouse team, mixed in with Natsume knowing how much time to give his animators made season 1. The amount of money they would have had to spend if they wanted to keep all those people for the 2nd season would have been near a movie budget. I was sad with season 2, and even Natsume was kind of bashing them since he knows given enough time JC can make really good animation, but sadly their director and people with money wanted to rush them while hype was high instead of delay it (plus Natsume wanted to stay as director which he could have since he Is freelance, let's hope season 3 they put him back in since he's in love with the project)
This was such a nostalgia trip, great video guys
Wren’s “Oh…” in the Omni-Man video killed me. Gosh, I love this show.
I think they should check out the first Hinokami Kagura scene (Tanjiro vs Rui) from Demon Slayer.

Code Geass is one of my favorite animes because of the story and how it plays with you a bit and then the ending is huge.
Also really like Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. For similar reasons as above except I think it messes with your emotions even more.
Probably too late but:
Storywise Death Note is probably my favorite. It has some of the most perfect scenes in all of television and some of my favorite episodes to watch. Sayonara.
Action and animationwise I'd say Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. As a good friend once noted, every episode just gets more bombastic and bigger than the last one and that just keeps up for the whole show.
An lastly, my favorite movie: Summer Wars. I know its schmaltzy and there are probably way more impressive pieces out there, but it just really hits me every time. Watched it close to 20 times now, still get teary multiple times thoughout.
Didn't realize ATLA was such a pioneer. It really is something special. And seeing the respect in all 3 of their faces when talking about ATLA and LOK is so awesome!
I think nowadays it is easier to classify it as simply an anime inspired cartoon, but considering how groundbreaking it was, it made it alot harder to classify at the time. Cartoons just hadn't really done that before.
@@xaius4348 this, and honestly they still haven’t… I haven’t seen much of anything that has been animated as well or with such raw beauty, because that’s what it really is, it’s beauty in animation in ATLA and LOK, and I haven’t seen that in any other cartoon shows to this day. Sure there is some great animation in cartoons these days, but not beautiful in the same way that ATLA and LOK are…
@@xaius4348 anime is just the shortened term for an animation in Japan, and Avatar is absolutely a anime stylistically, so I don't understand how people can say it's not one.
@@improbablyyourdad8458 What aspect(s) of the show make it an anime in your eyes?
Compared to modern anime I think it's clearly a cartoon.
Don't get me wrong Avatar the Last Airbender was a great series, but it didn't break the ground most people want to think it did. Cartoons aimed at adults with groundbreaking animation and serialized storytelling were around for 20 years before Avatar and really good in the years before Avatar aired. What Avatar did that was exceptional is story control. Historically these epic animations like Robotech or Samurai Jack had a map of where the show was going but none of them knew from season to season if there would be another season of work so writing and even animation quality wasn't very consistent. Avatar sold a story rather than episodes, and that studio commitment allowed them to tell a story exactly how they wanted, retain talent intelligently, even get callbacks for old voice actors. It also got made during this voice acting renaissance where there many many amazing voice actors and studios who were really good at leveraging that talent.
Mob Psycho 100 is top tier animation. Studio bones put so much passion into that project and I think it's worth a feature.

Koji looks amazing! Immediately on my list, so visually tasty
Akira has a permanent place in my heart because it was the first for me. It's what started the journey. The best for me though, is Trigun. The complete beginning to end journey and story, is just unparalleled. Only 81 (iirc) episodes, but the story is told, and it's amazing.
Akira holds a similar place for me, however if you go back and watch it again, the story and the quality really don't stack up against contemporary titles.
I love that Wren is horrifed at what he sees in Invincble.
Shoot I'm horrified too.
First time I saw the episode I just kept yelling "What? What is happening right now?"
Anime fans be like,"First time?"
I feel bad for him that he didn't watch the episode and have that surprise at the end. I'd rank that as a top 10 first episode cliffhanger/twist.
Having read the entire series, I can tell you .. you haven't seen anything yet ... it gets crazier.
Everything from Makoto Shinkai, like: Your Name, Garden of Words, Weathering with You. And Everything from Hayao Miyazaki, like: Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. THE ANIMATION IS AMAZING!!!!
Damn you right. Anime movies are so beautiful
I commented the same thing before I saw your comment!
UP
YES YES YESYESSSSS
Anime is not usually energy or action oriented, you are right that it’s technically a specific style and animation done in japan, but that action genre of anime is called shonen
Mushi Shi is by far one of the best anime you will ever experience.
I can't put one above the other. I also LOVE Outlaw Star as well.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It is a masterpiece in EVERY WAY. Animation, story, music, characters, fight scenes, world building. Every part of it is beautiful. It is an essential anime. And the best.
I second that
I see you are a man of culture as well
Absolutely both versions of FMA are amazing but brotherhood edges out a win for me.
YES
i really cant see fmab that way... for me, both original fma and fmab were overhyped af
Mob Psycho 100 is an Anime with great animation in literally every scene, but especially some fight scenes
Was mob also made by mad house? My take on best fight scenes would be most likely one punch man. It just feels a bit more... grounded to me, if that makes sense. Like... In season 1 they had every punch actually connect and not just these phantom punches you see everywhere and that really carried alot of quality for me about the entire animation.
@@ShaingTV It was animated be Bones, the same studio that animated MHA, Soul Eater, and Space Dandy, along with many others.
Agreeed
@@ShaingTV Yeah whatever Studio they were made of, One Punch Man Season One is definitively one of the best animated animes out there. Altough I don't compare it to Mob Psycho because of the different art style and more content by Mob Psycho (Season 2). Let's hope they watch the best of both
It's a classic of this decade (10-20)
This episode convinced me to watch Invincible. Cannot wait for season 2!
I believe that we haven't seen a lot of adult animation in the West LATELY. There were plenty of early animated shows and films made in the West that were catered to older audiences. They even used more methods (like rotoscoping, my personal favorite) that gave individualized styles.
Jujutsu Kaisen has some of the craziest fight scene animations I’ve ever seen. It would be awesome to see you guys react to it
Yeah , Gojou fan !
Itadori and todo clap fight scene
@@tamaskavalecz yeah that scene was crazyyy
@@tamaskavalecz 🔥
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Mob Psycho, Violet Evergarden, Demon Slayer, Cowboy Bebop, Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan have some seriously good animation.
Add to the list:
-Space Dandy
-Ping Pong
-Redline
-Paprika
-One Piece Movie 6
-Dofus Book 1: Julith
Plus one for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
I'd also like to add Fire Force, Gurren Lagann, Mob Psycho and God of Highschool as candidates
“Your name” and “weathering with you”have amazing visuals, you guys should check it out
Just a tad late here but I would like to suggest Kids on the Slope - a grounded show about a kid who must adapt as his life becomes mixed up in the power of friendship, romance, and jazz
One Punch Man:
Saitama vs Genos practice fight.
Saitama's dream fight.
Great animation.
Sadly the First season Is way Better at animation than the second one
And saitama vs boros
@@attackemu1508 saitama vs genos is my favourite fight. The animation is done in that fight was mind blowing.
@@nordindelosreyes3473 no, definitely, I actually like it more, I just think that the Saitama verses Boros It’s just as good, and has in my opinion the best animation in the show
DON'T FORGET THE FIGHT WITH BOROS
god man, when invincible season 2 comes out, some real crazy shit is getting animated, and then is season 3, holy hell that’s gonna feature what i hope is the greatest arc in the series. i really hope you guys come back to it bc the action is only just starting.
Vinland Saga, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kiasen. Some of the best art and animations out there in anime right now
Jujutsu Kaizen has some of the most incredible fighting in concurrent Anime. It has so many elements I think it’s totally worth you guys analyzing its art.
Yes
