    Hello and welcome to ThunderSteve85 Gaming! I had an absolute blast capturing all the game footage found in today's video and hope that it gives you a better idea of how the projector looks and performs in person! My goal for this review was to create something for everyone whether you fashion yourself a huge gamer, sports addict or movie buff my review will help you experience what it looks like in person. Please note, all footage was captured in 4K/60FPS with the Projector displayed on a giant 150' screen! As you know, the larger you make the screen, the lower the screen quality but that was not the case with this Projector as the image was crystal clear for all consoles I captured from NES to SNES to Switch to PS5. My N64 even looked way better!
    The screen I used is by no means state of the art but it get's the job done and can be considered an everyman/woman's screen due to the low price and availability. The screen can be used indoor/outdoor as is very easy to setup.

    Love the video! Super helpful. Thanks for showing sports as well as games.
    I’m likely about to get one of these next week but have one concern. This model doesn’t come with any motion smoothing options (to keep latency low), which that means any stutter is basically not fixable. Did you notice any stutter when looking at fast moving objects (basketball, baseball) or in the background when panning the camera in Spider-Man or GoW? Thanks!

      Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video and that's awesome, I bet you are excited to pick one up! Your welcome on the sports, it was tough to show any sports without someone coming at me with a copyright strike. I had more sports in the video but had to remove it! I have not noticed any stutter during basketball, baseball or football. I watched the Dbacks/Dodgers series on HBO MAX and I've watched my Phoenix Suns games and it didn't have any issue keeping up with the action, very smooth. Same goes for GOW, Spiderman, anything I've played I haven't noticed any stutter issues thankfully.

      @@thundersteve85gaminggreat news. Thanks for the quick reply! I noticed that the basketball was cut out! Smart to avoid copyright strikes. Subbed to your channel. Great content.
      Apologies for the double question - did you use an ALR screen? Most ALR screens have a 1.5 minimum throw ratio and this model maxes at 1.5 throw. Just curious if that would cause issues. No worries if you don’t have the answer.

      Thank you very much for Subscribing and you got it, I always try to reply quick! Yeah, I had some Suns highlights playing but the NBA has content ninja's and AI everywhere from what I've gathered. I did not use an ALR screen. I actually used a white screen from Amazon and projected the image at 150' (link below for reference). I specifically wanted to test the projector on a cheap screen to see how well it performed. Basically I wanted the Projector to make the screen and not the screen to make the Projector. With the other gaming projectors I had previously bought that I mentioned in the review, I used either a Silver Ticket or Elite Screens ALR 120' Screen that was regularly priced around $6 to $700 bucks and I felt like it either darkened the image or dampened the colors on the previous projectors I had bought unfortunately. So this time around I decided to test on a basic as it comes screen and thankfully I was not disappointed. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09F6KMWG1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

      You are welcome! I know that for me, before I invest the necessary time and money into a new product like a gaming projector, I want as much information and detail as possible so I can make an informed decision. Enjoy the projector and the new screen! I will say that when I first setup the screen, it felt like bed sheet material and I got a little nervous about the purchase but all that went away after setting it up and using it because it looks great! LMK if you have any questions!

    I can tell you put a lot of time, effort, and money into this review. My wife and I were just talking about replacing our living room tv with a projector right before you uploaded this. The x3100i is a bit out of my price range but it's good to know about. Sounds like you'll have a lot of fun with this bad boy.

      Thank you Kerby! I appreciate it, this video was my biggest project thus far. It takes a ton of time to record all the clips especially on a GoPro because they get very hot and then shut down after about 20 minutes of recording. I had a routine of recording footage for a game and then removing the battery and placing the camera in the refrigerator while I cued up the next game and then swapping to a fresh battery, wash, rinse, repeat 😂. What projectors are you looking at? I am familiar with many different projectors so let me know because it might be one I've tried before that I didn't mention in the video! 👍 Yes, once it finally cools down I'll be bringing this baby outside!

    I’ve been wanting to buy a Sony vplxw6000es but it’s pretty expensive and I’m holding out hoping that the next generation of projectors will have hdmi 2.1 and other “future proof” comforts so I won’t have to buy again for very long time. Being the big investment that it is, I’m kind of leaning towards a Hisense C1 or this Benq3100i. Family, friends, and I will be gaming often so I imagine this will be the better pick. My only worry is that I have low ceilings in my basement-just over 7 ft😔 I know the previous 3000i had a 110% vertical angle offset. Does the new adjustment slider fix my problem for a ceiling mounted position you think? Would that end up needing keystoning?😕
    I suppose I could always just set it on a table though.
    Anyway, I applaud all that you went through to make this. That was a ton of effort. Thank you!

      @thundersteve85gaming  Pƙed 7 měsĂci +1

      Hi Nick, thank you for the compliment on the video, it was a lot of work for sure but I had a lot of fun testing everything out! I looked up the Sony VPL-XW6000ES and I agree that would be a really big investment. I looked up the Hisense C1 and checked out the product page. My main concern with the C1 is that nowhere on the product page or the spec page does it advertise it's input lag rating which is a big red flag to me. Laser TV's are known for having unacceptable levels of input lag and it took me purchasing one to find out for myself. Back in November 2021 I had bought the Samsung Premier 4K UHD Laser Projector Model SP-LSP7TFAXZA from Best Buy and the input lag was simply too much to be able to enjoy any type of gaming on the projector. Since your main focus is gaming, I would 100% recommend the X3100i. I think the new Vertical Lens shift on the X3100i would help to solve any issues without the need to turn to keystone.
      A few years ago I purchased the Vankyo TP20 Projector Tripod Stand from Best Buy and the Projector Tripod Stand has made it super easy for me to use the Projector in any type of room or setting. There's also a bunch for sale on Amazon that I am sure are just as good or better for around the same/lower price that would do the trick. So I'd suggest looking into a Projector Tripod Stand. Prior to purchasing a Tripod Stand, it was difficult for me to get a straight and even picture and it always took me moving around furniture and stacking books on tables in order to achieve the correct height, etc. With the Tripod stand, that's no longer an issue! Let me know if you have any other questions about the projector!

      Thanks so much for the reply! The Hisense C1 is rated at a pretty bad 50ms input lag. I think I’ll just get the Benq x3100 and do an end game projector years in the future. Unless Microled TVs come down in price by then😅

    Hi, can you tell me anything about how input latency behaves when you use keystone correction? So far a bunch of people have said that keystone negatively affects latency, and yet no one has talked about this with any sort of specificity!

    • @thundersteve85gaming
      @thundersteve85gaming  Pƙed 6 měsĂci +1

      Hello my fellow Thunder Brother. I just tested it out using both auto keystone and manual keystone adjustments and for my money, it's close to indecipherable on the x3100I. Back in the day before companies created gaming specific projectors when you'd use keystone, the input lag was easily felt. To give an example, it was like playing a game with your TV in 'Game Mode' vs 'Vivid' picture setting but it's not like that anymore. From what I can see and tell, the lag might increase by 1 frame but nothing more. I certainly can't feel the input lag and to me, the feeling is more important than the seeing. If I need to use keystone, I won't avoid it like the plague and that use to be the actual case for me. I use to say that if I have to use keystone, there's no point in using the projector but thankfully that has all changed with the improvements to today's technology. I think most people are saying it negatively affects latency because they are going off of conventional wisdom aka the 'It's always been this way' mindset because it was for so many years.
      I don't have the equipment to run a lag/latency test but I just tested out NBA 2K24 and my shot release still felt perfect and I tested out Mike Tyson's Punchout and nothing felt off. Punchout is my go-to game for 'felt input lag' on TV's and Projectors because I'll know immediately if there's any type of lag! Let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@thundersteve85gaming Thank you for the detailed answer!
      I am currently using an Xgimi Horizon, and using keystone (which is unavoidable for me) causes the latency in game mode to go from 16 ms to 35 ms. 35 ms doesn't sound like it would be that bad, but for me everything just feels really off and imprecise, so I only use my projector for slower games. It sounds like the Benq might be a pretty good upgrade for me.
      Thanks again for the help.

    • @thundersteve85gaming
      @thundersteve85gaming  Pƙed 6 měsĂci +1

      Oh yeah, the Xgimi Horizon is a nice projector! I do think it would be a pretty good upgrade for you! 16 to 35ms is a pretty good spike so completely understandable that you'd feel the input lag when using keystone. I bought myself a portable screen on Amazon for about $100 so I haven't found that I need to use keystone yet. The only thing I've used in that realm is the new lens shift to line up my picture and that has been a huge help! If you end up getting the projector I think you will be able to make good use of the lens shift!
